The Fourth of July holiday five-day weekend was very kind to Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction. It pulled in $20M more than second place finisher, Tammy.

Fourth of July box office was down 43% percent from last year. In 2013, Despicable Me 2 opened to $83.5M, but this year, Paramount Pictures' Transformers: Age of Extinction "should have a $35.5M to $36M three-day and a $52.8M to $53.4M five-day holiday weekend." Some of the box office decline can be placed upon the bad weather that the northeast incurred during the holiday. While Melissa McCarthy's R-rated comedy Tammy underperformed her last few films, pulling in a pedestrian "$21.1M three-day and probably around a $32.9M five day." It currently has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and only received a 'C+' Cinemascore from audiences. The box office should get a boost next weekend when 20th Century Fox's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens. Current predictions put it on pace for a $68M opening. That would easily surpass Rise of the Planet of the Apes' $54.8M opening in 2011.

SpiderParker - 7/6/2014, 12:32 PM
Transformer movies manages to get worse by each sequel. I think thats quite an accomplishment.

while im not a horror guy..i was interested in Deliver us from Evil because its directed by Scott Derrickson who is doing Doctor Strange..its gotten mixed reactions..some people love it or really like it..some are in the middle and some dont like it at all..thats the reactions his other films The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister have had too..anyways dont give two shits about Transformers 4. after Bay gave us 3 crap not even gonna bother with this one..dont care for Tammy..its sad Edge of tomorrow hasnt done that well.its a great sci fi film..very smart.well done action and characters..i loved Tom Cruises arc throughout the film and also a very funny film too..i do want to check out 22 Jump Street and How to train your dragon 2 too because i loved the first films for both
BlindJustice - 7/6/2014, 12:40 PM
So it's safe to say yet another sequel is on it's way.

How about a movie on Cybertron this time?
themidnightking - 7/6/2014, 12:42 PM
I'm pretty sure that's wishful thinking
SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 12:43 PM
Well what do you expect? One has a giant monster terrorizing a city and the other is directed by Michael Bay.
Grimfoe - 7/6/2014, 12:43 PM
Don't look now, but Cap had a much better 2nd weekend than Transformers. Closing the gap!

I'll lmao if Cap beats Transformers domestically.
DrDoom - 7/6/2014, 12:47 PM
I like how Optimus' sword is skewering McCarthy's head.
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 12:48 PM
Sid-HAHHHHHHHHAAAA,oh man, that made me laugh hard
Bekss - 7/6/2014, 12:48 PM
Two more weeks (or maybe just one) and T4 will pass X-men.

According to boxofficemojo this year has had a pretty low box office
Bekss - 7/6/2014, 12:51 PM

Cap will beat everyone domestically, only Hunger games and The Hobbit will pass Cap
SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 12:51 PM
That makes you an awful person ezio...
WeddingTux - 7/6/2014, 12:52 PM
I have a complaint, Pasto straight-up plagiarized my last article
SusanFuentes - 7/6/2014, 12:52 PM
I think the box office decline can be based on the fact that it was a shit movie
HurricaneXavier - 7/6/2014, 12:59 PM
Shes hard to look at.
TheRationalNerd - 7/6/2014, 1:00 PM
I'd most certainly say that it's...

TF1: (Grand introduction to the franchise and characters. The story wasn't too long and gave both old and new coming audience members enough story to stay engaged with all the characters. I still hate how the ONLY black transformer got killed off first though...smh. However the Decepticons felt pretty brutal and the pacing *especially towards the end* made it such a memorable summer film. Let's not forget the credits scene of Starscream flying into space! Such a tease!)

TF4: (It was great to see Optimus in an entirely new mindset towards the human species. Was a pretty entertaining take on a brand new chapter within the transformers franchise and to me it personally felt like the human characters were on the robots time and not the other way around. The newer autobot characters were very impressive but sadly they lacked in the areas of treating the Dinobots with the same respect. It sets up numerous possibilities of where the next film can go.)

TF3: (Although the film may have been a bit lengthy it really picked up it's momentum near the final battle in Chicago if I'm correct? It was a pretty non-stop action film and some of the action scenes were very top notch. Bay may not have made the perfect comeback but you could tell that the finale actually felt like a finale. Sentinel Prime owning Optimus in battle and mindset was pretty cool to see. It only lacked in areas where specific Decepticons met their fate. I personally feel that they were taken down way too easily. I personally felt that this film would've been the perfect time to show how menacing Starscream was by possibly killing off Megatron and/or Sentinel Prime. Overall it's an action packed film that showed that the franchise still packed a punch after the disappointing TF2.)

TF2: (Although it succeeds in certain areas featuring *combination transformations* = Optimus and Jetfire, Constructicons, fight scenes "Forrest Battle" and also pre bits of the "Optimus vs. The Fallen" battle the ending felt wayyyy too quick, the human element to the story was way too long and aside from the humor to be a relief it was just flat watered down after a few consistent attempts. It's a prime example of a "bigger sequel" but it lacked bringing forth the charm the first one brought to us.)
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 1:00 PM
Sid-i know,i know..

SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 1:00 PM
Give yourself 50 lashes Ezio!

No such thing as going too far
Bl00dwerK - 7/6/2014, 1:00 PM
Why do they keep pushing that unfunny woman on us?
GeekyCheekyChic - 7/6/2014, 1:02 PM
Tammy looked like shit on a stick on trailers therefore will not watch.
Earth to echo bombed....figured it would.
I still want to check out Deliver us from evil but thats because I want to check out Derricksons style. I saw Sinister but only liked two thirds of it.

Bay formers : more than meets the eye.
Chewtoy - 7/6/2014, 1:03 PM
Transformers 4 is way behind the others transformer flicks in North American box office, but worldwide it is doing well having already made far more in China alone where it's over $200m. (Of course, there's an article in Variety about the lengths they went to make it favorable to the Chinese government, with cowardly, lying American authority figures and competent and effective Chinese characters.). It's the future of blockbusters, I'm afraid.
TheRationalNerd - 7/6/2014, 1:04 PM
And surprisingly Days of Future Past is still coming close to 730million by currently standing at $724,698,000! Proud of my Fox family!

"Massive 64% drop for TRANSFORMERS 4. If it can't hold against APES, it could be looking at less than $250 m total." - Ray Subers

Faint glimmer of hope?
Humperdink - 7/6/2014, 1:07 PM
LOL @ that title.

Oh, Nail.
You're a cheeky bloke aren't you?

This really was no contest, though. Tammy was a resounding dud.

Like Transformers AoE, Tammy didn't really have much of a plot.
Unlike Transformers AoE, Tammy didn't look visually appealing to compensate for it's short-comings.

DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 1:08 PM
Theblacknerd-i will respectfully a transformers fans,i have seen the original cartoon and beast wars and was excited to see a transformers film in the theaters but i did not like it,i hated the human characters, i didnt care for them at all,i dont mind focusing on the humans as long as u make me care about them but the first film and none of the other two films did that for me ,i also never cared for the autobots hence it made the action scenes very trying to watch cause i was really detached from everything,it was just visual noise to me cause i just didnt care and the humor in these movies are awful..i am not a fan of crude humor but i dont mind it if u combine it with smart humor like 21 jump street did imo but it was stupid crude humor and i didnt care for that..i think the recent cartoon Transformers Prime does a better job and should have been the films, good humman characters and i cared about everyone i was suppose to care about and humor was well done..just my opinion
SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 1:09 PM

Yes it does
SauronsBANE - 7/6/2014, 1:09 PM
"It was great to see Optimus in an entirely new mindset towards the human species."

If by "entirely new mindset", you mean "wanting to murder every human being possible", then...yeah.
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 1:10 PM
Thebaroness-yeah thats what i heard from some people, that 2/3 of the movie is good,it kind of falls apart in the third act but i have heard thats because of the writing, not directing but overall those people i talked said they liked it
Grimfoe - 7/6/2014, 1:11 PM

What about Planet of the Apes? That looks awesome, I'm wondering how that will do.

Rise only did about 175, but the next one should do better?
TheRationalNerd - 7/6/2014, 1:12 PM
And Dawn of the Planet of the Apes may surprise a lot of people with how well it might do in the box office. I'm glad I never let my guard down about the film being a hit. Can't wait to check it out.
Smallvillefan21 - 7/6/2014, 1:13 PM
Sid wins for Comment of the Day!!!!! hahahaha
Destined - 7/6/2014, 1:14 PM
Agree @Blacknerd! Well said, that's how I rate them too.
SidDaAstroSloth - 7/6/2014, 1:15 PM
Thank you for such a prestigious award Smallvillefan21
DannyRand1225 - 7/6/2014, 1:16 PM
cant wait for Apes on Horses this week , that and Guardians of the Galaxy are the two films i wanna see in theaters, Turtles looks alright but i'll catch it on dvd
TheGreenBastard - 7/6/2014, 1:16 PM
Fat jokes, classic! I'm not a Melissa Mcarthy fan in any way, so I'm indifferent. I'd like to catch Transformers 4 soon, I've heard good things, from people who's opinions I care for. I'm not really surprised Edge of Tomorrow flopped, Tom Cruise isn't as big these days. Jack Reacher, anyone?
