Definitely signing up for the alpha. Looks good and has lots of potential.

"Unlock new content to implement across various gameplay strategies while experiencing thrilling action and endless possibilities in these adventurous team battles!"

This reads like a resume written by A.I. though.

This type of game does not interest me at all, but it is nice seeing the mutants getting integrated into non-mobile Marvel games again.

@mountainman - Marvel is kinda perfect for the Overwatch style of game. Here's hoping they do it right. And that they keep Sweet Baby Inc away from it lol.

@TheFinestSmack - This looks like a good game in that genre. I just don’t play online competitive games any more these days. Prefer solo story driven ones. So it’s not that I think this looks bad, I just know it isn’t for me.

TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 12:31 PM
@mountainman - I think the only reason i started gravitating to these types of games is time constraints. I don't have time to dedicate to big narrative games anymore. These games are great for jumping in and killing 20 minutes haha.

mountainman - 3/27/2024, 12:40 PM
@TheFinestSmack - So maybe I’m unfairly lumping this game in with the online games I don’t like. Some of them, like Call of Duty or playing a fighting game online, if you don’t play as often as the people who out hours a day in, you won’t be as good as them and you lose more often. This could be a more pick up and play style which I prefer.

Honestly I’m really not playing any new games these days. Some look neat, but I have very little time for gaming.

I really only play old school games on my Raspberry Pi system. Pick up and play for 20-30 mins, save the progress, and turn it off.

@mountainman - Same here. I have a Series X and am currently playing.... Ys II for the psp in my PC, lol.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 12:50 PM
@Fogs - There’s just something about the simplicity of older games. I hate that I have to endlessly customize and level up characters these days, too many games have too many side questions just for trophies, and they just aren’t as fun as they used to be.

I’m seriously thinking about just getting a Switch. Nintendo seems to get that games should be fun and accessible first.

@mountainman - If this game is anything like Overwatch, then competitive mode typically sorts players based on skill level so you should be playing with and against players of a similar ability. I stopped playing COD and fighting games because of the same reason you said; and i just don't have the time or resources to become unbeatable in those games haha. I'm also not someone that buys many games. I've been switching between Overwatch, Fortnite and Rocket League for the last decade. I've tried maybe a handful of new games in that time, but i can't get away from my 3 go-to games. They're consistent, fun, quick and usually free.
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 1:03 PM
@TheFinestSmack - Skill sorting is good. Keep me with all the other people who only play occasionally and aren’t very good.

Yeah and when it comes to more competitive games, even if I had more time to play, it would be like 10 hours per week at most. Some of these people put that time in every day. You can’t compete with them.

I always loved the Mortal Kombat series. I remember when I had either 9 or X, I played online a bit and got beat so often. Only playing the computer gets boring, but at least it’s more fun than that.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 1:47 PM
@mountainman - The only frustration i get in Overwatch is when players use smurf accounts. Where they're top-level players but they create new accounts so they can just play non-competitively. Which usually means they just show up in lower tiers and mop the floor with anyone at my low-ass level lol. It's never fun and just feels like relentless failure.

Mercwitham0uth - 3/27/2024, 4:08 PM
@TheFinestSmack - I don't think SBI will have any involvement with it.

They seem only interested in ruining AAA titles.
Fogs
Fogs - 3/27/2024, 4:45 PM
@mountainman - Yeah, if I was caring for new games I guess I'd go for Nintendo. But I have such a huge backlog of older games I don't see it happening so soon.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 11:22 PM
@Mercwitham0uth - Lots of articles were calling this Marvel game AAA, which is what worried me haha
Mercwitham0uth
Mercwitham0uth - 3/28/2024, 3:39 AM
@TheFinestSmack - It's like "AA" maybe even just "A".
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/28/2024, 8:15 AM
@Mercwitham0uth - i agree. I've never heard of this NetEase game company before. Not sure i've even heard of any game listed on their site either.
Mercwitham0uth
Mercwitham0uth - 3/28/2024, 1:11 PM
@TheFinestSmack - They're a Chinese based game dev. Only game they had a hand in making that I know of is Diablo Immortal. It's a mobile game.

Evansly

I'll take a look at it. Used to love Overwatch but Overwatch 2 lost what made it special.

But it'll be hard to stop me from focusing on spreading managed democracy throughout the galaxy
Vigor
Vigor - 3/27/2024, 12:05 PM
@Evansly - did the 5v5 put you off?
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 12:07 PM
@Evansly - Same. I did recently get back to playing OW2 and i've gotten used to the changes, though i don't like them. Still fun to play, but i miss the old days. I'm hopeful Rivals takes from the best of what OW used to be.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 12:08 PM
@Vigor - 5v5 put me off initially, but i really hate the battle pass nonsense as well as how unbalanced some characters feel. Also comp is really wonky right now.
Vigor
Vigor - 3/27/2024, 2:01 PM
@TheFinestSmack - battle passes are pretty much background fluff to me. They don't affect my enjoyment of a game and never have because I was born 87 and raises when battle passes didnr exist. So I just play quick play and beat faces in lol
Evansly
Evansly - 3/27/2024, 2:23 PM
@Vigor - 5v5 does put a lot of pressure on the tank and does make it so they are often the ones making the W happen. They have also done various updates to melt the tanks faster which then adds to the frustration of the role.

Of course the broken promises like PVE don't help. The monetization has been pretty nuts but they are finally overhauling the battle pass in the next season.

It honestly was a game my friends and I would fall back into but now we just spread democracy together
Evansly
Evansly - 3/27/2024, 2:26 PM
@TheFinestSmack - Yeah it just doesn't capture the same spirit that it once had. I could play the game for hours with friends but we just get over it nowadays. I hope they can bring good changes in the future and maybe I'll come back to it. But games were starting to lose the enjoyment so needed to pivot
Vigor
Vigor - 3/27/2024, 2:28 PM
@Evansly - I didn't hear about the battle pass overhaul (probably because I also don't care about battle passes) but that's good ! I'll have to read into it. Looking fwd to the next hero
Evansly
Evansly - 3/27/2024, 2:32 PM
@Vigor - Yeah they are moving the coins into the actual battle pass which is nice, instead of having to do the weekly challenges that often required changing roles.

New hero does look cool though! I'll definitely login to check her out. They are also making all characters free when they are released instead of locking them behind 50 levels of the battle pass
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 3:11 PM
@Vigor - I think the OW battle passes only bothered me because it changed how extra stuff in the game was acquired. You can still earn some things with points, but they make the cost so high to earn that you're almost pushed to buy the battle pass. It's just annoying nickel-and-diming. I usually resort to quick play after a few rounds of comp and i get angry at people rage-quitting or hacking lol.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 3:12 PM
@Evansly - "They are also making all characters free when they are released instead of locking them behind 50 levels of the battle pass"

This is good because i still haven't unlocked Ramattra, Mauga and a couple other newer heroes.
Vigor
Vigor - 3/27/2024, 12:05 PM
Looks like overwatch but made by the B team. Janky animation. But I'm def giving it a try! Odd seeing Hulk shoot out Gamma rays like they're repulsor shots lol

Also odd seeing everyone run the same speed too (to help keep the game balanced I'm sure, from a competitive standpoint)
HashTagSwagg
HashTagSwagg - 3/27/2024, 12:08 PM
Cyclops, Hawkeye and Widow would have been the more obvious fits for this type of game. Glad to see that it's third person though.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 12:11 PM
@HashTagSwagg - I'm sure they're saving a ton of characters for later seasons. The lack of Thor, Cap and Wolverine is crazy, but i figure they're coming soon. Also Rogue will be perfect, like Echo in Overwatch; there to steal and mimic other character abilities.
HashTagSwagg
HashTagSwagg - 3/27/2024, 12:16 PM
@TheFinestSmack - Looks like Loki covers that.
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 3/27/2024, 12:29 PM

Never played Overwatch, won't play this. I need a openworld superhero RPG with a points-based system to assign attributes and powers, customizable costume, etc. GIVE IT TO ME.

bkmeijer1 - 3/27/2024, 3:39 PM
@Clintthahamster - so DC Universe Online? Closest thing is SE's Avengers, but that wasn't it. I'm hoping 1943 is gonna be that game.

My friends and I used to play Smite several years ago before it got too silly with [frick]ing anime and other crossovers.

Smite just lost me when someone picked Zeus and he has like a teddy bear skin and then Hades comes out with a robot skin and then Ra comes out looking like Uncle Sam, it just took me out of what used to be a bad ass game.

Hopefully Marvel takes its characters more seriously as alot of these heros and villains have tons of different costumes and designs to choose from should they get that far.
