Rocksteady relaunches Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League with new footage and intel on the game's release date, following a disappointing debut teaser that resulted in a release delay.

When Rocksteady's new Suicide Squad game was announced as a Games As A Service (GaaS) title, there was nearly immediate outrage from fans.

Expectations were high for the follow-up to Rocksteady's fan-favorite Batman Arkham trilogy, and the announcement of a GaaS title was simply not what the audience assumed the studio had been working on after years of rumors and secrecy.

After delaying the game's release date and going quiet for several months, a new 20-minute gameplay trailer was published, as well as a trailer revealing that Task Force X's vintage uniforms will be a pre-order bonus for the title.

The game's fast-paced combat takes prominent place in the clip, which appears to indicate that the production team has moved away from making a bullet sponge title. The video also did not focus on any loot, leading enthusiasts to believe that the game is no longer a "looter shooter." It's unclear whether this aspect of the game will be addressed in a future video although there is a brief mention of a battle pass.

The video indicates that the Suicide Squad intends to destroy the Justice League by breaking into the Hall of Justice's armory and stealing a few important gadgets to even out the playing field, including some of Batman's grappling guns, Dr. Sivana's Speed Force Gauntlet, and more. It also looks like the Penguin will appear in this game, acting as an arms dealer who lets the player upgrade their equipment and gain additional power.

Is the narrative around the game beginning to turn?  While some gamers are convinced that the title still has all the trappings of the worst that  Games As A Service has to offer, more optimistic gamers are hopeful that Rocksteady is leaning more into the Action-RPG genre.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be released on February 2, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. It will feature the final voice performance of Kevin Conroy as Batman.

Welcome to Suicide Squad Insider!

In this first episode, the team at Rocksteady deep dives into the main story of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the Squad’s traversal mechanics, and a peek at the world of Metropolis.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available 02-02-24 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

I hate the tone of this, doesn't feel anything like the the Gotham games.

@HashTagSwagg - Well it shouldn't. Those were batman games, this is suicide squad.

Still looks bad though.

@HashTagSwagg - They address the difference in tone in this new video actually.

But I agree I'm mixed on this game. Looks better than Avengers and Gotham Knights but not as good as Arkham/Spider-Man.

@KennKathleen - Cutscenes only for me. Wish they went with a different villain, we already had Brainiac in Injustice 2, this just looks like re-treading the same old ground.
BlackSpider
BlackSpider - 11/16/2023, 7:56 PM
@HashTagSwagg - Hrm disagree, completely different type of braniac and other dc game franchise. Plus its been years since injustice 2
HashTagSwagg
HashTagSwagg - 11/16/2023, 8:13 PM
@BlackSpider - Brainiac is Brainiac, travels in a skull shaped ship, talks with his usual manotoned voice, has a tentacle fetish, collects data, destroy parts of the city and have some of the heroes possessed until they are freed, eventually he'll be defeated just like the last game. Explain how he'll be "completely different" in this one.
BlackSpider
BlackSpider - 11/16/2023, 8:18 PM
@HashTagSwagg - Thats not even true though. He is pretty much different from let's say animated series, and anything else really. He doesent even always have a monotoned voice. Its pretty easy to see how he would be different given he seems jokey from his dialogue we see.

Plus again years ago.

@BlackSpider - Where's this footage of Brainiacs dialogue?

@HashTagSwagg - You can hear him a bit in this actually. Unless its supposed to be someone else.

This is for the Fortnite and Apex Legends era gamer. I'm too old and grumpy for this kinda stuff. I can't even understand the appeal.

Looks like a blend of Crackdown and Sunset Overdrive, could be fun but the always online component is a downer.

This looks like a game from 5-10 years ago with slightly nicer graphics

Cool. I most likely won’t play it. Playing vr games has ruined my video game experience. I can’t play regular video games cause vr makes me feel like I’m actually in the game instead of just sitting down and staring at a tv. 🤷‍♂️

@AnthonyVonGeek - I use Beat Saber for exercise. And I know what you mean about VR ruining regular gaming. Every time I try I lose interest quickly. I haven't finished a regular game in a long time now.

@BlackSpider - Mine cost $300. Cheaper than regular gaming and the games are cheaper too for the most part. And a good selection of free games. Plus you can use it as a big screen to simulate watching in a theater, you can watch with others around the world, to watch movies and stuff. They are pretty cool.

bkmeijer1 - 11/17/2023, 6:05 AM
@Urubrodi - true, but it's a subscription I'll have anyway for playing online and the games already on Extra. The extra games I get through Essential and Extra are just a bonus to that.

So, a Suicide Squad team featuring only 4 street level villains had been tasked to tale down god-like beings like Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern and a human with infinite plot amor?

"So, a Suicide Squad team featuring only 4 street level villains had been tasked to tale down god-like beings like Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern and a human with infinite plot armor?" - @CharlesLeeRay -

You saw Suicide Squad? They took on the Justice League's first villain. Harley fukcing Quinn killed a giant alien all by herself. The entertainment industry is fukced.

Harley Quinn killed Starro.....by herself. Warner Bros thinks people want to play as Harley Quinn, over Superman, in Metropolis.....

I wish this looked better to me. I absolutely love the Arkham games, but nothing I've seen really appeals to me all that much. Who knows, maybe it'll be a surprise like the Guardians of the Galaxy game, but I kinda doubt it.

Funny. When they first revealed this game, everything looked great. Now… not so much. But I will try anyway, I like suffering ( in a “Im playing the new Robocop game” level)

This game would've succeeded 5-6 years ago, but now ? This is basically being sent out to fail. Why on earth would you spend NINE years working on this shit ? They could've put out an entire second Batman trilogy since Arkham Knight released. I get wanting to try something else, but this is simply not it. I definitely understand why the studio founders left the studio last year. It's such a shame seeing this once great studio that put out what many consider one of the greatest trilogies in gaming, devolve into chasing trends, when it was once the trend setter.

This kinda just looks like Fortnite gameplay. Which is a shame, as Rocksteady could've just copied one of the better combat mechanics of the last decade from the Arkham games
