"Set among the bloody turmoil of the French Revolution, Unity offers a bold revamp of many of the series’ key pillars, including combat and navigation systems that have been rebuilt from the ground up to take complete advantage of the new technology. Also, for the first time ever in an Assassin’s Creed game, you will be able to form your own Brotherhood with your friends and take to the streets of Paris." -Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft.
The seventh installment in the Ubisoft series,
Assassin's Creed: Unity premiered both cinematic and gameplay videos from the E3 2014 Xbox event, along with a few new details about the ambitious project's accurate recreation of Paris. Unity was revealed to the world early this year, a short teaser trailer released by Ubisoft clarified rumors concerning the newest installment in the popular series, while
AC IV: Black Flag came as a surprise as the first entry to jump
backwards in time. Just one of many fan-requested settings, the French Revolution (1789-1799) is a direct historical sequel to the American Revolution, taking place nearly two decades after the exploits of Connor Kenway. At E3, both single-player and co-op gameplays were given live demonstrations, and it offered some more details into the four-player cooperative mode and its new protagonist, Arno.
"With the possibilities of New Generation consoles, we are creating the densest and most realistic Assassin’s Creed city yet, while redefining the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite, with French Revolution Paris, Assassin’s Creed Unity is set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, based on a key moment of history that will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike."
According to Ubisoft, their virtual Paris was recreated on a 1:1 scale (the scale of Renaissance Rome in AC:Brotherhood was only 1-to-10)
Unity can support up to 5,000 non-playable characters on the screen at once, meaning riots and lynch mobs run on individually reactive AI in the upcoming game. The team at Ubisoft Montreal revealed on their UbiBlog they've re-tooled the game's engine from the ground up, plenty of core mechanics, including combat and navigation, were further augmented from AC4. The parkour system has also been refined to a "parkour up" or "parkour down" button navigation mechanic, and now that players can jump through windows and traverse through buildings seemlessly, chases and exploration missions will be far less repetitive. Look forward to the Fall 2014 release date of Unity, expected to hit stores on
October 28, 2014.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present day, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only." |
