We got our hands on the first batch of screenshots for Injustice: Gods Among Us, the new fighting franchise based upon DC Comics superheroes!

Yesterday Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios announced that they were working on Injustice: Gods Among Us, a new fighting franchise based on the DC Comics universe (see our original post HERE). Today we have the first batch of screenshtos released for the game.

For those that missed the teaser trailer that was released with the announcement yesterday, we've included it below!



Injustice: Gods Among Us is a new fighting game franchise that introduces an original story featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons such as Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others. Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale. What if our greatest heroes became our greatest threat?

Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled for release in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii U system from Nintendo.

The gameplay footage that was included in the teaser trailer wasn't too impressive, but the screenshots that were released today look amazing!

Still don't like the armor suits, but Harley looks hot.

Meh.
This leaves me with a resounding feeling of meh.

I got bored with MK/DC so quick. Trying to make them dark/vicious/overly violent just takes away from the characters as we know them.

Definitely picking this up it's too far away too really judge the graphics of it. I'm assuming future trailers will look better

Looks really good. PatientZero mentioned Superman...I don't see him... Oh was he mistaking the guy in blue and red armor with the Superman fetish as the real Superman?

I wonder how they balance the different strength levels of the characters. It'd be neat if you did a Superman/Harley fight and on the first punch by Superman, Harley just explodes into a pile of red goo.

"NEWMUTANTS" HAS A POINT...MARVEL IS LACKING IN EVERYTHING BUT THE MOVIES...SOMEONE ON THAT TEAM(MARVEL) WHO WORKS WITH GAME DEVELOPERS NEEDS TO GET FIRED!!!

@SotoJuiceMan - this has been done before in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It was so obvious that many of the DC characters were more powerful that their MK counterparts (and reversal). They leveled the playing field by explaining in the story-mode that magic was involved and that Superman's powers were being shared by everyone. I understand that the same writers who scribed MK vs DCU will be contributing to this new game, so they should be able to figure something out.

@BANNER78, are you kidding? Look at what has come out that has been good in the past five years: Marvel vs Capcom 3, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel Pinball, Captain America: Super Soldier, Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, and soon (which I have no doubt will be awesome) The Amazing Spider-Man.

What has DC come up with in the past five years? Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Gotham Imposters...and that's it, three games in past three years as opposed to Marvel's five/soon to be six.

Why does Batman have the ability to kick Solomon Grundy high up into and through a building?

This looks like crap. Why was Mortal Kombat vs DC so toned down, but this game has Supes punching someone into outer-space and then punching him back down to earth?

That's a pretty awesome idea. If the gameplay is anything like MK vs DC, then I'll be a sad panda. I wish Marvel would do this. I love the MvC series, but a game with like 50 Marvel characters to choose from would be the shit.

looks bad ass, im not thrilled with people with no powers knocking people 30 feet in the air but its still cool though. superman looking fun to play with already

Injustice's character roster is split into two categories: "Power" characters like Superman and Wonder Woman, and "Gadget" characters like the Batman and (presumably) Harley Quinn. Depending on a character's class, they'll be able to interact with the environment in different ways. Batman may be able to slam Wonder Woman's head into a parked car, for instance, while Wonder Woman is able to slam a parked car into Batman's head.

Environmental hazards are set to play a major role in the game, adding a bonus level of strategy to each character match-up, according to this video interview with NetherRealm's Ed Boon: "You're really going to want to care where you are, in which background, with which character."

Superman looks shitty. But, this proves the comics armor would look better with a yellow belt.

I agree with ya monkeyballs3, both of those Batman games are fantastically awesome, and raised the bar for comic book games in general. That's why I can't wait for The Amazing Spider-Man game, using the same fighting mechanics as Batman, with a massive open world web swinging.

DC vs. Mortal Kombat kinda sucked ass. However, the last Mortal Kombat game was badass. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes. Digging the looks of our heroes. Much better than tights, IMO.

Seriously what is Batman wearing? And why is Flash in armor? Think the game is pretty interesting but not sure how I feel about the design of the characters. Although I do like Supes.

@LAXtremest I like DC vs MK but it was a very basic storyline involved game. There weren't any real unlockables other than Darkseid and Shao Khan.

There is too much going on with some of the costume interpretations, but this looks like it will be awesome.

I'm a fan of comics and fighting games, so I'll be getting this. Besides, it will be made by the same people that brought us Mortal Kombat! It'll be awesome! I hope they have classic costumes available, though.

@BANNER78 and @newmutants, you both are kind of right. Marvel (as a franchise brand) is lagging behind in the VG marketplace. The Marvel vs Capcom series sold less than 4 million copies (across 7 different platforms) while MK vs DCU alone sold nearly 3 million copies (across 2 platforms). The Batman: Arkham series has sold over 12 million copies (source VGChartz.com). Even if you took the entire Marvel VG library (at 8.4 million copies sold) it wouldn't come close to what the entire DC collection has sold (let alone Batman). Now if you want to compare the X-Men and Spider-Man VG franchises, that's a totally different ballgame.
