I'm no "nolanite"..........
MovieMann - 9/19/2011, 3:05 PM
genius
Moonwalker1991 - 9/19/2011, 3:05 PM
Good director. I applaud this fresh breath into the Batman series but he's as far as I can tell pretty far from genius. He doesn't need that much praise, or hate.
csdot - 9/19/2011, 3:06 PM
not a Nolanite, but hes definitely a talented director. Inception and the Bat-films are full of flaws but more to do with script than his ability as a director. still incredibly fun movies.
gleetana - 9/19/2011, 3:06 PM
good director.. extremely overrated.
sexymuppet - 9/19/2011, 3:08 PM
way too overrated
matrix10st - 9/19/2011, 3:10 PM
I aint fraid of no nolan.
matrix10st - 9/19/2011, 3:12 PM
Nolan is actually a well rounded director he's very gentlemenly and hes that type of director that wont put the entire movie in trailers. He wants to keep things under raps and Top Secret. I actually think more dirctors should do that he definetly gets the top spot on my directors list he even knows when to use that almost Sci-fi element but not too much
Supersonicboobs - 9/19/2011, 3:21 PM
HE IS A DIRECTOR GOD!!!!!!!!
BruceWayneNewton - 9/19/2011, 3:25 PM
He is a great director esp considering he is a limey brit.
Gelfling - 9/19/2011, 3:26 PM
pure genius! dont forget memento! One of the all time greats! brilliant!
spiderneil - 9/19/2011, 3:27 PM
good director but overrated. not in the league of the likes of spielberg
Batman5 - 9/19/2011, 3:28 PM
GENIUS
therj00 - 9/19/2011, 3:29 PM
he's 7 for 7 so far, he really is a genius, but he also has probably the best supporting crew ie. Wally Pfister, Lee Smith, Hans Zimmer etc, and gets the best casts, he's a brilliant writer, he went to school for writing not film school
AC1 - 9/19/2011, 3:29 PM
I chose 'I'm no nolanite' but my answer would be somewhere between 'Genius' and 'great director'
AC1 - 9/19/2011, 3:30 PM
@BruceWayneNewton half British. He's also half American.
comicoverlord - 9/19/2011, 3:30 PM
Guys, if you have not watched Memento or The Following you are doing yourselves a disservice. I know how important it is to you to get the Earthbound, God's honest truth from comic book movies but to insult Noland as a bad director just makes you seem ignorant. The man can put a movie together, better than most, not all. But better than most of you could put together in your wildest, wettest dreams. The man has taken a great amount to learn his craft. Most of you have not given high school English as much thought as he has to film making. And that is very sad.

He is smarter than you are, face it, and be comfortable with it. It's OK for people to be smarter than you.
jjmeylar - 9/19/2011, 3:32 PM
I'm not a fan of his "Batman" movies. I mean: I like them.......but I much prefer "Batman Forever". I'm a fan of "The Prestige" and "Inception", though. This poll is irrelevant, by the way. We all know that the Nolanites will overtake it, just like they do with every other poll that has to do with him or his films.
HelaGood - 9/19/2011, 3:37 PM
we could do worse
hitman - 9/19/2011, 3:40 PM
@comicoverlord..... I totally agree with you !!!
NOLANITE - 9/19/2011, 3:47 PM
NOLANITES ASSEMBLE! who here is as big of a NOLANITE like me?!
ironknight - 9/19/2011, 3:47 PM
Like his movies, dislike his fans that act like he's God.
Akercocke - 9/19/2011, 3:51 PM
He's no God but he's a very very intelligent man.
hitman - 9/19/2011, 3:53 PM
@NOLANITE...good one...sounds cool..NOLANITES ASSEMBLE...lol..
chucksome12391 - 9/19/2011, 3:58 PM
great director hands down. But I could write a better Batman screenplay for us fanboys.
NOLANITE - 9/19/2011, 3:59 PM
@hitman us NOLANITES can overthrow the Favengers anyday of the week.
BigK1337 - 9/19/2011, 4:00 PM
Of course he is great, but it isn't like he is above all criticism.

He is kind of like Iron Maiden; their shit is great, but even they aren't all to perfect (the Bailey era of their band history isn't all that great, but is still good music).

Oh, and Bruce Timm; we all can't forget how weak Superman/Batman: Apocalypse was.
EarOne - 9/19/2011, 4:05 PM
one thing i have to commend Nolan on is that he respects and knows the material enough to realize what needs to be included, adjusted and developed. he knows what story to tell and how to tell it.

and since not many directors can do so (except for Peter Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, the old Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese), he can be considered pretty awesome.
flyingbyhisseat - 9/19/2011, 4:11 PM
I don't like what he has done with Batman. I think he is trying so damn hard to bring Batman into todays world and for me, it's just not working. I don't want to see Batman in broad day light, I want to see him in his element the shadows, the night skies. That's why I'll always love the way Tim Burton brought Batman to life and the way Gotham City was created.
PapaII - 9/19/2011, 4:27 PM
I understand if some people hates Nolan style, but never "meh", never indifference... the guy is good!
GodzillaKart - 9/19/2011, 4:42 PM
Good director, definitely overrated. TDK was GREAT...but not with out flaws. BB might not make my top 10 superhero flicks. Great moments, but also a ton of flaws. One of the worst endings of any CBM.
ElBeaster - 9/19/2011, 4:46 PM
This isn't even a question. The guy has a perfect track record. He wrote and directed Mememto, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Prestige, and Inception. I'm a comic book fan, but I'm also a movie fan. And even if you don't like what he did to Batman, these movies are all fantastically written and directed.
unclebuck99 - 9/19/2011, 4:48 PM
with movies like prestige and inception i do believe he's a genius.and im not saying this cause of the dark knight there's flaws in that movie in my opinion and to this day i still feel ledger was a miscast,but..it was inception that really made me a fan.tdkr could verywell be the movie that's gonna define this mans career we shall see..
NeoBaggins - 9/19/2011, 4:57 PM
I can't say he's overrated. I don't really see anyone expressing illogical praise for him. I like the fact that he takes the quality of an entire project so seriously. And he just doesn't direct, but he's a creative force behind the writing. From passed experiences with his films, I can expect him to make a good film.

I also like The Watchowski brothers, Speilberg, Snyder and even Michael Bay. No one really tops the list because they do different things with films, but Nolan's track record is solid.
CreshernThershPlern - 9/19/2011, 5:03 PM
I don't understand how anybody could vote that they hate Christopher Nolan. The man is a genius. Inception, The Prestige, Memento, the Batman films, Insomnia - how could anybody say that any of these films is anything less than brilliant. I think Nolan's Batman is the first really great representation of the character we've seen on the silver screen, and to him we should be eternally grateful. We can expect more great things in the future from Nolan.

All the haters are going to look like absolute idiots when TDKR arrives next year.
GodzillaKart - 9/19/2011, 5:35 PM
@FingFangFoom: I don't see how pointing out flaws in his films makes anyone a "hater".

I've enjoyed all of his films, but consider BB his worst. First, Bale was a horrible pick. Secondly, the final third of the movie is actually boring and does nothing to move the character forward or create an interesting situation. Horrible fight to boot. I could go on, but will stop with the disappointing fact that nothing in either film has been done to develop the character as an intelligent detective.

I will say the second act of BB, the whole "becoming BM bit", was great. His take was refreshing, and had some great aspects to it. However, because of it's many flaws, I can only give it 3/5 stars.
alucard365 - 9/19/2011, 6:00 PM
The man is a genius! We should all be grateful for the amazing Batman movies he's given us. period.
RolandD - 9/19/2011, 6:06 PM
I like the civil discourse for a change. Even those who are saying negative things about Nolan are giving reasons without giving hate. I would love to see more of that on this site overall.
Thablaqkgoat - 9/19/2011, 6:19 PM
Where was the Christopher Nolan buzz before Dark Knight? Nowhere. The movie did well so everyone acts like he's so great but he really isn't. Though I absolutely loved Inception haha
