I didn't like 300 but I'm really looking forward to this one. The preview rocks, this should be good.

if you have any doubt about this movie you should go to the official watchmen movie website. You can tell how dark the themes of the movie will be.

What they should have done (if they really had to make a ****ing video game out of this...which you know they did (sighs)) Is get Bethesda to spend 4 years developing an elder scrolls styled prequel game where your character (pick any from the team!) has to navigate the entire U.S. in search of clues that will save the world from the communists. There would be flashbacks, where you would play the golden aged incarnation of your character unraveling clues themselves....just saying...if you're going to spoil a piece of literature with capitalist overkill, do it right, ya know?

LoL, who watches the watchmen now?

this whole thing seems like a publicity stunt to me.
They could be planing a merger of some sort. would'nt surprise me if next year we had warner fox or something just as lame... after all the clone wars movie was made by WB... the first star wars movie not by fox (and before anyone starts, yes i know this is because WB owns cartoon network who makes the tv show)

p.s. to all those planing to boycot wolverine! I know, we know and you know you wont.
Still, I wouldnt mind sitting in an empty cinema all to myself as i watch it. muhahahahahaha :-D

Watchmen will come out. just dont get your hopes up to high people! you might be dissapointed with the movie anyway.

Im amazed at how negative so many people on here are about the watchmen changes, I agree that mostly theyre unnecessary other than cuts for time(though I like the 4 hour lotr movies in extended form better than the shorter versions myself),

some under the hood and black freighter would have been nice as I think at least the black freighter stuff was written perfectly to be adapted to film, and the octopus would have been fine as it was originally as well. Barring all that the film seems like its going to be really close to the original probably as close as lotr was,

I mean peter jackson pulled all that arwen stuff out of his ass (at least the contexts scenes she got ect) and moved lines from character to character like crazy, gave characters lines that were just copy unsaid by anyone but the author, all kinds of things, but that was a great series of films, and this will be too.

With all the other comic book movies I like being so far from as good as this is going to be I think I'm gonna be close to tears as I was with how well they did lotr, this wont be a trilogy, but it also isnt as epic as lotr was in printed form.

If youre going to be unhappy with this one (unless its just a bad movie which i just dont see happening) then all the other comic book movies have to be absolute toilet paper, since this is clearly going to be so far out of their leagues.

xaosjerk - 1/10/2009, 3:01 PM
I think everyone should just take it easy.
the film isn't out yet. they may include the same ending that is in the book, the supposed ending that was screened could have just been a test/hoax....
I agree that alot of the negativity is killing my buzz.
Snyder will do this movie justice. He's already stated that when this baby comes out on dvd, the length of the movie will be like 3.5 hours, with the Black Freighter included !!! BONUS !
Not to mention that Snyder did all of the documentary stuff for the film as well.
"Under the Hood" /etc...

I completely agree, this doesn't appeal to me at all. The slo-mo/fast-mo jerkiness is only the tip of the ice-burg. It reminds me of when they made the Hollywood Grinch movie.

This cartoon looks ok I guess but I really don't care for the art style. If Bruce Timm was producing I'd be interested but it doesn't look like it.

OH well at least the girls in the movie will look smokin! Way sexier than the comic's.

This gives me mixed emotions...

On one side, it means the movie is done by a person who respects the source and recognizes what something like the squid means to a lot of the fans.

However, it also means he knows what the squid means, yet he chose to appeal to the general audience.

Of course the movie does still have to make money, so the general audience is very important...

I guess really all this proves is that I would be a terrible director.

gtrman essentially gave the long version of how I feel about the squid ending... The whole hope vs. no hope.

Plus for me it was always the added religious dimension of Dr Manhattan leaving the planet, now the planet is under attack and even though Doc is gone, people most likely still hope he will return to save them.

It seemed like step for step, Doc becomes unofficially equated with God throughout the story.

I always enjoyed that it was almost gradual. It starts with, he's a boy looking up to his watchmaker father, to being a scientist, to being a superhero, and then giving him an unofficial position of god-like being/saviour. Yet his entire life seemed like it was in the hands of someone else. Though he became the most powerful being in the universe, it was because he never had a life of his own, and in the comic we get to see him finally decide to take control of his own destiny.

In the movie... I just don't see that happening so much... I could be wrong.

boy people are dumb. I watched those clips today and they almost completely sucked! they even took out cpt metropolis(along with most of the dialogue), making what should be an emotional scene a dud. I can't believe people diss spiderman 3 AND think this is anything better than shit. I cant tell if you ppl know less about comics or film.

and it looks like ass compared to the original art.

I'm totally gonna see watchmen because it looks pretty bad ass but also because Alan Moore doesn't want anything to do with it. Personally I think the guy is a major tool. Oh and even though I think the guy is a tool I still think watchmen is an awesome piece of work. I just don't like his personal views and think he's kind of closed minded.

But to say that Spiderman 3 is better. HOLY SHIAT! Dude lay off the weed. That movie was awful in every way possible. I mean Watchmen could be horrible in the all the same ways but as long as Rorschach doesn't dance in the middle of the road (which I'm pretty sure he won't) then it's automatically better than Spiderman. I do believe your the one who knows less about films and comics, at least quality film and comics.

i Just finished the book and I love it!!! I think the movie is going to be great! I cant wait 2 see how they plan on doing it without the squid. But the ending is more than the squid. Snyder talked about it in an interview. All i care about is that it works! If snyder can get the message across, then what else really matters?! He's stayed very true to the source materia. Cant wait till the 6th!
CloSeTNerD29 - 2/24/2009, 2:35 PM
This movie looks like it will be great. The book was amazing, so I think the movie will be too. I hope Snyder doesnt change too much, If Certain people don't die in the end will screw everything up.

shibazz - 3/7/2009, 11:20 AM
This movie sucked. The only good actor was Rorschach. Night owl might as well have been bruce cambell since they got an actor who looked just like him. This film was boring, poorly done and visually unimpressive. My friend sitting next to me fell asleep. This was a huge, but not surprising let down. Over-hyped is hardly the term. The so called rape scene didn't happen and the ending was pathetic. Nothing in the movie was new or controversal. The only joke in the movie is the movie it self. It was as bad as they made Nixon look.
corin - 3/8/2009, 12:46 AM
Felix and the article are right on with that. I'd be surprised if this made it's money back at the theatre at all.

This movie was made (from a financial standpoint) because the producers knew that between merchandise, and the 15 DVD incarnations this thing will spawn, the money will be made back eventually. If it breaks 100 million in the first three weeks, I think the producers would call it a resounding success. This was made to be a long lasting moneymaker. Just look at the book. It still sells a ton of copies every year. People who like the book, ten years from now, will check out the DVD if they haven't seen it. Which s what would happen with Sandman, if that ever got it's debut on the big screen. The longevity of the book = longevity for the movie, if it was a well made piece.

And like you guys have said - It's not like we're wanting another movie made. So there isn't what's at stake in other franchise comic films.

No one wanted a Ghost World 2, so no one cared if it made money. It was good, and we can enjoy it for as long as we have a couch and a dvd player. Selah.

Coats - 3/9/2009, 3:14 PM

Best comic book movie period.. so far.
xaosjerk - 3/13/2009, 3:18 PM
well the movie is tanking now, it's already in 3rd place this weekend (not by much but the drop in box office is insanely high), of course this is the result you get when you market to dumb action dorks when your real audience are hip art-film geeks. There are so many anti-advocates out there now spreading their seed of stupidity that this was inevitable. This should still be a sleeper and start to rebound in a rather trend breaking fashion, and it's dvd sales should be great, but it will be after a lot of bitter criticism and dark days that this movie finally emerges as know to be great.
xaosjerk - 3/14/2009, 5:59 PM
the reviews are really split down the middle for this movie. the fans praise it for it's true-to-comic story, but the mainstream audiences give it crap for having a confusingly complex storyline and a group of carbon-copy actors who apparently fail to bring originality to the characters. personally, i think zack and company should have just left the squid in the ending. the explosion didn't make the experience any easier for mainstream idiots to grasp. whatever, we fans will always know that zack was truly successful in bringing these characters to life. would i have done a few things differently? of course, but i'm not a director so i think he did great.
blacksword7 - 3/15/2009, 9:49 AM
Ok I know Im going to get blasted for this post but here it goes.First off let me start by saying I never heard of the Watchmen...not until the movie came out.I heard none of them had superpowers only the blue guy. When I seen the movie last week I seen guys punching holes thru stone walls(super strenght)cool the little guy with the mask and hat moved a little like spider man(enhanced)reflexes and aligity cool once again but confusing.Besides the blue guy for the common moviegoer that doesnt know anything about the watchmen you leave the movie the same way.I think the story overall was OK the blue guy looked a little out of place(cartoonist)his voice just didnt seem to fit nor his demeanor. From all the post I read prior to seeing the movie I thought he'd be a little more separted from us earthlings. If I had to rate the Watchmen it falls below both Batman's Begin & Dark Knight, first Spiderman, first two Blades. It was better than both FF,Ghost Rider,Punisher WZ,Daredevil, and the rest of Spiderman's.I think it was in line with Iron Man and the last HULK movie.
BLADE4040 - 3/24/2009, 1:20 PM
