Though no footage from the film screened during 20th Century Fox's CinemaCon presentation today, we did get a new logo for Dark Phoenix, which seems to have dropped "X-Men" from its title altogether...

We didn't get very much in the way of X-Men-related news or footage today during Fox's CinemaCon presentation, but the studio did debut a new logo for the next (final?) instalment in the franchise, Dark Phoenix.

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX - New Images Feature Jean Grey, Mystique, Professor X & More - Possible SPOILERS Ahead

The image is a little blurry, but it's clear that they've chosen to drop X-Men from the title altogether and highlight the "X" in Phoenix instead.

Will the film be known simply as Dark Phoenix when it hits theatres next February? It sure looks that way, but a lot can change between now and then, and the promotional material that we see at these conventions can often be placeholders.

At any rate, check out the logo below and let us know what you think.

But why?

Unless, as some say, it's to protect the X-Men name so it can more quickly be rebooted within the MCU.

This could significantly hurt the box office.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - I doubt it. The X-Men series will have been around for 19 years by the time Dark Phoenix comes out. The only thing that'll hurt this movie is it being bad, which with Kinberg at the helm may be true... Godammit Nappa.

Can't wait to see Infinity Monkey go on another rant about how much he hates the X-Men movies. That's why we love him!

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon -
Honestly, i thought the plan was that they were going to reshoot the movie to incorporate it in some form into the MCU. Like an 'alternative universe' or something to set-up the idea of a mutant universe being merged with the current universe?

@Scarilian - If they wanted to incorporate *this* X-Men into the MCU, then they just do an alternate timeline after DoFP with Xavier forming the Illuminati and wiping everyone's minds of what Magneto did with the stadium and all. In any case, they'll probably just reboot outright unless studio heads above Feige order him to find a way to keep Fassbender and McAvoy.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - unless they plan on just having posters with just the title, i think it will be immediately obvious to general audiences that it will be part of the x-men series: posters wiht the characters and trailers.

So the fox series is going out on a whimper instead of a bang

At least we still have Logan and other great movies from the Fox series to remember it. If it went out on a bang it'd probably take longer for Marvel to reboot the characters into the MCU - as they would want to avoid being overshadowed.

That’s an odd (and almost dumb) thing to do.

@regularmovieguy - I had to look up the movie title because my first thought was Bullitt actor McQueen🤦🏽‍♂️ hahaha

But this! Very very cool concept. I’ll have a look for a trailer if there’s one.

Ummm... Ok? I guess Fox has given up to the point where marketing doesn't even matter.

It's difficult to tell but it looks like the classic Phoenix symbol (the traignle shaped bird on jeans chest) is behind the P.
