One of the greatest in the industry! I resepct Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (Much respect for Jack) and sure they're the ones who created the X-Men but for me when it comes to X-Men stories Chris Claremont is the man who gave the X-Men more meaning, life plus depth and character which made the title one of the greatest in comic book history.

I really don't see it.
I don't see how i'm supposed to relate to a bunch of kids with SUPERPOWERS living in a world with Captain Americas, Hulks, Thors and others, but still act like a whiney bunch of entitled brats. I also don't get how the world suddenly "hates and fears them".
Fear is understandable. But it's not like you can compare it to the bigotry of racism or homophobia or whatever.

it very much so has to do with racism an bigotry he just used a different method to display it. at the time x-men first came out he couldn't directly state what is was because of the ignorance in the world.
pro X is MLK an magneto is MALCOMx they somewhat have the goals ,best friends just chose different methods to accomplish them.

I don't believe the X-Men were created with the holocaust in mind. Like Stan said, it was more along the lines of civil rights. In the 60's, that was the big issue. Civil rights among African Americans.

I'm sure its easy to say that the holocaust happened because of hate and bigotry, and you're right to an extent, however, I've only ever seen Stan Lee mention the civil rights movements when creating the X-Men, and never the holocaust.

I could be wrong, though, I suppose.

I've heard him say that Prof X was based on MLK jr, and Magneto was based on Malcolm X. I can totally see that. One is all about peace, integration and non violence. The other is about separate but equal and "by any means necessary". This guy was waaaaay before his time. Think alot of his stuff went over peoples heads.

I've never understood if the X-Men are meant to represent minorities , why are they almost all white, straight and mostly male? Especially the original team.

Stan lee and Jack Kirby, whose talent cannot be denied, they were so ahead of everyone else, created such great characters. I get so pissed off when the likes of SONY and FOX, destroy what they created.

When the original five X-men where created with their support characters, I loved the interaction between Scott and Alex, Iceman, was one of my all time characters and of all the way Xavier and Magneto, interacted and the cause they both stood for. This type of talent can never be topped!

Huh? Stan Lee is not one of the greatest writers in the history of.. Ever. No. Not even close. Comic book writers today are better than him by miles.

Stan the man is just one lucky bastard. I still respect him though.

You sound like a kid who does not comprehend that things change with time. The stuff Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko were putting out was big at that time. If you lived during that time you would only have a lot of stale old DC comics to compare it with. My older cousins thought 1960s Marvel was enlightening. When I read their collections in the early 1970s, they were still great stories. You can't compare eras. It's like comparing Walt Frazier and Dwayne Wade.

@exe - he created a whole comics universe. That didn't happen anywhere elese (DC, Image, Top Cow). So, creating a long lasting universe is easy and doesn't qualify him as a great writer? Ok...

And it's unfair to compare today's advances in the medium with its original form. It's like comparing a WWI biplane to an F-21. Products of their time.
