X Men 4 And New Mutants Movies In The Works!

Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that we will indeed be seeing a fourth outing for the X-Men, as well as the feature debut of the original X-youngsters, The New Mutants!

At a Fox Blu-Ray press event in Beverly Hills, Lauren Shuler Donner, X-producer responsible for all of the mutant movies so far, first addressed the (supposed) Tweets by actor Tim Pockock(young Cyclops in Wolverine) which stated..

"currently shooting Australian TV series till February 2010…then X-men first class ;)"

Followed by this...

"victim of cruel prank.last tweet=NOT me.AM filming Aussie show till2010.no official word on XM:FC but am interested.please post retraction."

Shuler claims there is no truth to this whatsoever, and although there is a First Class movie in the works, no shoot date has been confirmed nor any actors signed on at this stage.

When asked what other Mutant related projects we could be seeing in the future, she said she is currently "cooking up plans for" X4, reuniting the X-Men and a big screen outing for The New Mutants. X4, she said, had yet to be pitched to the studio, however.

This report comes from Brendon Connelly over at Slashfilm, who is sending over the info as he gets it live from the press event. So in the event of more lovely Mutie related news, watch this space.

	So for X4, Bishop travels from the future, a future decimated by poor Hollywood-produced comic book movies. He returns during the year 2006, just in time to see X3: The Last Stand. 	The sad thing is there was no need to create a mess in the first place! Claremont, Louise Jones Simonson and Ann Nocenti had the house of X in perfect order from '75 - '91! Why go and wreck it all? It's just discouraging. With the X-Men, any attempts to change the correct course of events will inevitably result in disaster! Much like with people thinking the Avengers movie should be based on the Ultimates, it just creates too many problems! Something like Age of Apocalypse can be enjoyed by longtime fans who apply the proper perspective and context to the story, but for film adaptations it's imperative to stay close to the classic canonic interpretations!! We need to make sure that younger generations understand that things have been modified to appeal to wider audiences than the comic book buying public! Example: Iron Man:Armored Adventures - this series was created with the youth demographic in mind! This is high quality animation with solid storytelling! Because it's understood that everything has been changed from the ground up, I accept it as a TOTALLY different version of the property! So I'm able to enjoy it for what it is as opposed to judging it by the standards of the comic! So long as it adheres to its own continuity, It's fine. Now in the Iron Man MOVIE, obviously things were updated to give the story a contemporary background! Amazingly, everyone on this site loves the IM film, but wholly rejects the new 'toon! ....Okaaaaayy.... Now no one is able to look at the X-flicks the same, as we're always trying to sort out the mess in our minds and arm-chair edit, instead of being able to sit back and enjoy the films!! 	Hey Tyler, WHAT IF Storm and company feel that Cyclops is not dead. No body, remember? So,they search for Cyclops and cross paths with Sinister which will inevitably lead to Apocalypse. Otherwise, bring in Cable. If Cyclops was at the battle in the last stand, he could have just blasted Phoenix and the mutants of the Brotherhood. 	I just want them to start with First Class as the beginning of a new continuity, not bogged down by having to keep to the old continuity, but they wouldn't have to go through the whole origin, as in TIH, like Josh said. 	Why is it so hard for some people to just use their imagination! Cyc need not be dead! We never see a body, and all they have to say anyway, is that Jean doesn't kill when she does that shatter effect thing, but simply zapd em to another dimension of something. That would explain Xaviers consciousness ending up in another body and we could get Cyc back no probs too. Also, I have been reading X comics since i could walk and I always though Cyc was a [frick]ing douche! He might be more fearless and less whiney than they portrayed him in the movies but trust me folks, he is not supposed to be a likable character! 	Did nobody notice that X3 set up Shadow King? Professor X has to travel through the astral plan to get to his new body. He can sense that a new evil is coming which would be Shadow King. That would also allow Emma Frost and Psylock to be brought in. No not Wolverine Origins Emma Frost and no not X3 chick who was for some reason named Psylock but wasn't her at all. Also Cyclops doesn't have to be dead. We didn't actually see him die just get a yucky kiss. That would add the Cyclops/Emma Frost relationship. 	Why would it have to be sinister or apocalypse? I remember a very powerful sentnial from the future giving them a hell of a fight more then once. The story line could be Cable comes to the past to correct things that got screwed up. (i cant remember the name of this sentinal) (i'm old bear with me) anyway this sentinal follows him to the past and the Xmen suddenly have their hands full. In this movie my choices for charcters would cyclops, wolverine, colossus, shadowcat, prof x, nightcrawler, a fixed Rogue also and of course Cable. I listed alot of charcters i know. but i remember a issue where it took the Xmen and hellfire club both to try to take this guy down and during the fiht it caused one of the hellfire guys to have a heartattack. I also remember him bringing a building down on a few of the Xmen men once so Rogue asorbed colossus's powers, nightcrawlers and one or 2 others if i remember right. anyway it ended with her kicking his ass and him losing an arm. 	Yes to time travel leading to cancelation of events from x3. First and second were well enough, so they can still be used. Furthermore, definetly need some major recasting, have wolverine go to Japan or something, and be absent the wholle movie. 	joshw24 - The Astonishing X-Men roster you love so much is Joss Whedon's distillation of the definitive "all-new, all-different" X-Men roster from '82 - '83. It consisted of:Professor X, Cyclops, Storm(original costume), Colossus(original costume), Wolverine(brown costume), Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde. This team was active from issues #150 - 175 and was by far the most effective fighting unit the X-Men has ever had, as well as having the perfect blend of powers and personalities! And THEN they added Rogue! I LOVED that version! Definitely pick those issues up! It may change your mind! Emma Frost, to me, will always belong in the Hellfire Club! As for X4; ENOUGH with Wolvie for now! I won't miss him and it's getting to be overkill! Positioning Logan for his own franchise was likely the deciding factor in killing off Scott in X3! IDK why we can't just follow the chronology of the comic book with minor adjustments and embellishments: The five originals, + Havok, Polaris and Mimic; transition to the new team and then go from there! Asanine stuff like de-aging Rogue, Angel and Iceman needs to be avoided like the plague!! And please can we start referring to Jean Grey as Marvel Girl?!? And she's not a doctor; let Moira MacTaggert have that role as was intended! And if Scott IS brought back, please let it be with the skullcap hood!! 	@ josh the original new mutants comics were unbelievably good! my best setup for X4: the jean in X3 was a clone (madelyne pryor) that was sent by sinister. the real jean should still be in a coccoon under the lake. cyclops wasn't killed, but taken prisoner by sinister to run experiments on him. sinister explains that if cyclops and jean had a kid, it would be one of the most powerful mutants to ever live. the xmen save jean and cyke. the movie ends with cyke and jean giving birth to infant cable and sending him to the future. X5 could be about the sentinels. and then X6 can be cable's return from the future in all his glory. @ LEEE i want to see cable too, but just bringing him in with no setup would be weak as hell! But unfortunately to Schuler Donner saying they want to go ahead with a New Mutants movie translates to "We're going to hang that name on some random silly thing we hired a hack non comic reading writer to come up with" So a "New Mutants" movie could be anything. 	@ ror i've gotta disagree with you about cyclops, man. he's easily my favorite x-man, if not favorite comic character!!! most people that don't like cyclops just look at him as being the "boyscout" or the goodie goodie. but the bottom line is, the only time cyke turns into a loud mouth, "you need to follow my orders now" attitude is when wolvie or someone else gives him shiz. but in the end, they all listen to him, because they know, that tactically, he's unmatched by anyone else in the marvel universe, except MAYBE cap. also, if you read interviews with former x-writers, you'll almost ALWAYS here them mention how much fun it is to write cyke. he's such a well layered character that writers eat it up. and you certainly can't hate on his powers! they used to describe his optic blasts as "capable of pulverizing adamantium"!! 	Well, CDB, i guess we all see different things in certain characters. Like i said, I have read shit loads of X books for many years and i always got the impression that he was a royal pain in the ass. Yeah sure he knew what he was doing, but he was also selfish, egotistical and unbelievably self righteous. I agree that he is a great character because i love to hate him, but I question how likable the dude was ever supposed to be. 	Well this is news. In my mid-teens I began collecting The New Mutants. Their first appearance Marvel Graphic Novel #4 1982 and New Mutants #1-#100. At that time I could relate to those kids. Early stories were the best but then got meh. They battled the Sentinels in issue #2 and kicked ass. 	JonF: I know about the X-Men team you're talking and have read a fair few comic books featuring that team - however, the characters and dynamic of the Astonishing team makes them best X-team so far IMO! I think that Emma Frost is a brilliant character and would definitely not want to see her return to her evil roots anytime in the future and for me, Beast is definitely is an X-Man before anything else! :) I have to agree with NubaX - i really want to see the Sentinals in the next X-Movie! 	I agree with both Corndog and Rorschach01. He does have leadership qualities, a cool power and good battle skills, but at times he is definitely depicted as a pompous ass too. It's usually not something that's so overt really. It's more like things other characters say about him. Like that time Quicksilver beat him up in Infinity Crusade. He says something like "I never could stand his pompous attitude" It's just an attitude that he has because he was the first X Man and always depicted as "teh leeeder". The cheesy brown nosing class favorite. @ Corndogburgler: Whedon's depiction of Cyclops is probably the most favorable in X men history. I'm not saying it's bogus, it's not. 	Yup they need to do just a little tweaking for X-men 4. Cyclops is perfect with Marsden playing him but he needs to be more in charge, heroic, mature and authoritative. Cyclops is not just a whiny dick, he's more complex than that. Sterwart is also perfect as Xavier. Jean needs to be someone a little younger, more Marsden's age. Iceman also needs to be Marsden's age. I want to see someone younger and shorter for Wolverine but everyone else seems to be hypnotized into accepting old gigantic Jackman as him. It seems to me that Singer, Rat-turd, Jackman and FOX have run the X-franchise into the ground! I never have liked the inaccurate height portrayal of Logan! But Hugh has done a very good job fleshing out the character's persona. Colossus is good the way he is with Cudmore playing him. Piotr was always younger than the rest of the new X-men in X-men 94. Shadowcat is perfect. Now they need to bring in Emma Frost and a couple of other younger X-men like Cannonball. And please replace Paquin as Rogue. Rogue is a strong, blustery older street-savvy person in the comics. Paquin is all wrong for Rogue with her young somewhat-naive timid portrayal of her. And get rid of Halle Berry, quickly! 	I've been reading X-Men comics for nearly 2 decades now, so I usually don't post on here unless the article involves the X-Men. I'm not thrilled about FOX doin' anymore mutant movies because I've watched them butcher my childhood heroes for 4 straight movies. Yes, I would love more X-Men movies to be made - but only if they can be made with the time, effort, and money it takes to give them justice. It really sucks that so many fans have hopped on the Emma Frost bandwagon. Jean Grey is an exceptionally great character that brought an innocence to the team and was truly the heart of the team for decades - but sadly newer fans will remember her as the character that Marvel beat us over the heads with and then continued to drive into the ground. I truly wish Marvel would bring her back and ditch Emma Frost. They try to sell Emma off as the poster-child, first X-Lady of the team, but I'm not buying it - she was better off evil. New Mutants was a flippin' sweet team and a great comic. There was not a single member on that team that wasn't an awesome mutant. Guess you had to be around in the late 70s to understand! The Astonishing roster is really the same as the '81 -'83 team; just substitute Emma for Storm and the Beast for Nightcrawler! I loved that green and tan costume that Kitty had back then, though! Whoever made the comment about Cyke's leadership abilities was dead on! Damn straight only Cap can out-lead Cyclops! Cyke leads with military-level authority - even in the Danger Room! Everyone: the issue I have is Cyclops being killed off to make room for Wolvie to take over the film!
