Wolverine Creator Len Wein wants to see Japan in 'Wolverine 2'!

The characters creator has expressed his desire to see Wolverine head to Japan as well as sharing his thoughts on the ending of 'Watchmen'!
"I just want to see them explore the characters more," Wein explained in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. "I think the Japanese Story, if that's where they're going to go—and I imagine they are going there for the next story—is the perfect next choice. It gives you a whole other side of the character and allows you to explore aspects that have never been seen on film before—the noble warrior, as opposed to the berserker."

During the interview, Wein also spoke out about his experiences with Alan Moore while editing the 'Watchmen' comic book series.

"It certainly was a challenge," Wein related. "I have gone on print and online as saying I never liked the ending, I felt it was a bit askew. I thought the ending in the film worked better, but Alan is Alan. You take the good with the bad. You want that work crafted, that ability to sculpt a line like nobody else's business, you put up with mismatched socks and an inability to spell... it works out splendidly!"

If they don't do the japan theme i will have to quit payin attention to any future wolverine movies.
SHHH - 10/16/2009, 12:57 PM
They definitely need to use Japan in the sequel! Let's just hope that they dont [frick] it up like they did with the majority of his origins!

As for Watchmen - I also think that the movies ending was much better, far more realistic and overall much more enjoyable! The novels ending just felt stupid when I read it!
JoshW - 10/16/2009, 1:03 PM
And give em a uniform! not a wife beater. And don't overuse the memory loss concept, i know they {fox} will.
SHHH - 10/16/2009, 1:13 PM
Creator LEN needs to stop selling out, good for him he wants the sequel in JAPAN, but bad on him making us wanna believe the first movie wasn't a piece of nasty dog poop!! ; D

Anyway i thought we got news about WOLVIE in JAPAN ages ago??
LEEE777 - 10/16/2009, 1:24 PM
SHHH @ Great AVATAR m'man!!!
LEEE777 - 10/16/2009, 1:25 PM
LEE: He's not "selling out" he has an OPINION! You've gotta stop starting on everyone who doesnt agree with you man!
JoshW - 10/16/2009, 1:28 PM
But... he IS a sell-out. And Wolverine Origins DID suck.
LexLuthor - 10/16/2009, 1:36 PM
He isnt a sell out for christ sake ;(
teabag - 10/16/2009, 1:39 PM
Sell out! That word is thrown around far too much on here by people that don't seem to grasp its meaning in any way. Leee do you really think Wein was brainwashed by dollar signs and hounded by Gavin Hood to say he like Origins? You really do live in another world my friend! He is standing up for the character, just because the movie was lacking is no reason for him to start slagging it off, even if he didn't actually like it, which he may well have! Just because you think it was the worst movie ever made, some people actually liked it.
RorMachine - 10/16/2009, 1:43 PM
I love how he talks about Alan Moore. There are a few minor things that bothered me from Watchmen(GN) that could have existed only on account of stubbornness from Alan's part. If Alan would have taken other people's point of views, it would surely have been different LOL :P The GN was still bloody damn good though!
Shaman - 10/16/2009, 2:01 PM
I love the GN, and i loved the ending, i also loved the movie and loved its ending. If more people could separate these things in their mind we would have a lot less fanboy explosions happening around the world!
RorMachine - 10/16/2009, 2:05 PM
Ror@ exactly...they are interpritations and i enjoy the movies by accepting that fact :P
teabag - 10/16/2009, 2:15 PM
They use the characters and put them in different situations.
SHHH - 10/16/2009, 2:24 PM
thanks LEEE777
SHHH - 10/16/2009, 2:30 PM
Watchmen changed my life lol

I loved every single bit of it
Fartman - 10/16/2009, 2:35 PM
sell out
shibazz - 10/16/2009, 2:37 PM
Whackerine Borigins was a horrible movie.... for someone to love a turd , well they become highly suspect in my eyes. Just because this guy created wolerine doesnt mean he is a genius or even a great judge of quality. That movie was complete shite and we all know it.
shibazz - 10/16/2009, 2:40 PM
i liked it..lol
teabag - 10/16/2009, 2:42 PM
For the love of f**k there are certain elements that will never work on screen like certain costumes, and giant squids. Some of you need to get over this hump already, you're starting to sound like f**king Trekkies. As much as worship at the temple of Logan, I don't want to see him in yellow, or brown in a movie. Watchmen as a book is most likely the most brilliant thing most comic fans will ever read. As a movie it's most likely the best pure representation of source material on film ever. Analytical is one thing, but bitching for the sake of bitching is a backhand waiting to happen.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/16/2009, 2:48 PM
was it Wein that came up with the wolverine was made from an actual wolverine... thing?
Betty - 10/16/2009, 2:49 PM
SELL OUT?!?

BWA HA HA HA, I guess that means Stan Lee is a sell-out, too, huh???
Macksimus - 10/16/2009, 2:52 PM
There was nothing and has been nothing wrong with Jackman's portrayal of Logan/Wolverine in Origins. The movie sucked because of the wacked treatment of the other characters and the cameos that made no since. I knew something wasn't right when Scott was in the trailer. That said I'll give a Japan sequel watch if made.
juggy4711 - 10/16/2009, 2:53 PM
I HONESTLLY WANNA SEE THE SUIT AND MASK,AND IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE SPANDEX, JUST BECAUSE THE COMIC PORTRAYS IT DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE TO BE A SLAVE TO THE IDEA,THE GUY IS A SCRAPPER, GIVE HIM SOMETHING A WARRIOR WOULD USE, IF HE'S GONNA FACE HORDES OF NINJA AND A SAMURAI THAT CAN SLICE THROUGH YOU LIKE BUTTER MAKE HIM THE EQUIVALENT SOLDIER..HE CAN WEAR HIS OWN ASSASIN WEAR SO ON THE LIESURE HE CAN SIT AT A BAR WITHOUT A CHAIR GETTING SMASHED OVER HIS HEAD YET STILL BE ABLE TO GET HIS ALTERIOR STUFF DONE ON THE DOWNLOW..
GUNSMITH - 10/16/2009, 2:58 PM
Ive said it before and ill say it AGAIN. Origins was not the best comic book movie no BUT even through lack of plot and messing up things that we all loved about certain characters it was a MOVIE and i still enjoyed it same goes for xmen 3 why becuase even though they were bad interpretaions in my OPINION i still enjoy watching the good things that came out of it. its not like Origins was Catwoman (just as an example) @lee buddy he isnt a sellout he really does agree with how the movie turned out and i agree for what it was it could have been WAY worse in my opinion it was still fun if you push past the stuff that bothers you so much. But i do also get at what you are saying. As for watchment AMAZING MOVIE the (GN) was AMAZING but i agree with you ROR that both interpretations were great and its about dividing that and enjoying both. I always thought the ppl who bitched about the squid were just being complainers to complain the ending of the movie was FANTASTIC it was great.
Set2Fallfirst - 10/16/2009, 3:13 PM
@lee you gotta admit you enjoyed PUSH more than ORigins...really?! your opinion but if youre gonna enjoy push given Origins some slack.
Set2Fallfirst - 10/16/2009, 3:15 PM
KNOWING FOX, THEY MAY ADD MORE CHARACTERS THAN IN THE JAPAN STORY HAD..WATCH THEM THROW IN SABERTOOTH- X 23-GAMBIT-PSYLOCKE..AND A CRAP LOAD OF OTHERS...I SAY MAKE AN ARTICLE ON FAN PICKS OF WHO SHOULD PLAY WICH CHARACTER IN THE JAPAN STORY-HUGH JACKMAN AS WOLVERINE--MARIKO-GRACE PARK?-SILVER SAMURAI-KEN WATANABE?-MARIKO'S FATHER CAREY TAGAWA?-WHO WAS THE CHARACTER THAT WORKED FOR THE HAND THAT GOT HIS HAND CHOPPED OFF? THAT GUY COULD BE PLAYED BY RAIN-WHO ELSE??
GUNSMITH - 10/16/2009, 3:15 PM
At least i sat and enjoyed Wplverine...that Push movie is one of the few ive seen that i actualy didnt want to sit through :(
teabag - 10/16/2009, 3:27 PM
@Gunsmith, I honestly wouldn't mind Gambit tagging along. Going around causing mischief and debauchery while Logan does all his training. It could be a buddy movie... with exploding ninja stars!
MovieTheaterLad - 10/16/2009, 3:28 PM
I agree teabag

Set2Fallfirst - 10/16/2009, 3:28 PM
I HOPE THEY CAPTURE THE KEY FRAMES FROM THE BOOK..WOLVERINE LOOKING DOWN FROM THE CEILING, HORDES OF NINJA ATTACKING HIM..JAPAN..IF THEY MESS THIS UP I'LL BE SO SOOOO MAD..THIS IS ONE OF THE GOLDEN STORIES IN MARVEL..FINGERS CROSSED
GUNSMITH - 10/16/2009, 3:41 PM

GUNSMITH - 10/16/2009, 3:47 PM
@TeaBag- MY GrandFather was adopted off of a "Reservation" By a British Man a long time ago. It is because of that that i believed Brits to be people of exceptional taste and quality. Your Adoration of of this "Interpretation" of Wolverine has me questioning my former beliefs. Tread softly English.... tread softly.
shibazz - 10/16/2009, 4:00 PM
Shibazz@ I have clown feet so i struggle with the softly aproach..lol.....Wolverine was entertaining imo not great by any means but its no Push or Disaster movie lol :P

teabag - 10/16/2009, 4:04 PM
This guy is a sellout. When it comes down to it he is about as important to wolverine as Rob Lefeild is to deadpool. He may have come up with the bear bones idea of wolvereine. But it was Chris Claremont who defined all this tool did was put claws on a shortdude. And even tho he denies it now he wanted wolverine to be a mutated wolverine the animal not an actuall human and make him in his teenage years. So yeah he's a sellout

ok everyone who called him a sell out needs to back up their claim. You cant just cry out "sell out" because you didnt like the movie, which im pretty sure he had nothing to do with anyways.
CaptainAmerica - 10/16/2009, 4:48 PM
Lol Darthstern, that was the stupidest reason i have ever heard for someone to be called a sell out.
CaptainAmerica - 10/16/2009, 4:49 PM
Cap@ right how on earth do these guys know what Wein regards as a good movie....he created wolverine and what would you say if he liked what Claremont did.... sellout i suppose since it doesnt follow his own premise..lol....the guy has the right to think what he likes :)
teabag - 10/16/2009, 5:02 PM
If they don't do a Japan theme and Wolverine isn't in Japan I'll take a shit on all the X-Men movies and send them to the writer(s) in the mail and I've never see Watchmen was the ending good
MrAnonymous - 10/16/2009, 5:28 PM
@MrAnon

The Watchmen movie was actually really good and the ending made alot of sense and fit really well in regards to the plot, probably more-so than the comic book version did.
MovieTheaterLad - 10/16/2009, 5:32 PM
Aren't commercial artists and writers "selling out" the moment they sign their first contract? Since they get paid for their work aren't they all selling out? haHA!
Betty - 10/16/2009, 5:50 PM
lmao @Shibazz's Tread softly!..But I'm still not happy about your love of Borezone, now THAT was a turd young lady!

Tea, Push? Arse! What a load of absolute bollocks..i watched till the end just because the chick had a nice ass...and no, i didn't mean Dakota Fanning!
RorMachine - 10/16/2009, 5:58 PM
I don't give a shit about what was accurate (according to the comic) and what was not. All I give a shit about is if its a good story or not.

I'm more of a movie fanboy... than a comic fanboy.

THIS WAS NOT A GOOD MOVIE. The story was crap.

I call him a "Sell-Out" because he's obviously trying to get the fanboy crowd in good graces with the movie. It's a good idea if you think of it, let's get the creator of the character to kind of "support" what Fox made to get the dvd's sales up.

Maybe Im right, maybe Im a total nut. But Wolverine Origins made me hate the character, I find him boring now.
LexLuthor - 10/16/2009, 7:41 PM
And Betty I'm a commercial artist... and of course we're all sell-outs. Pays the bills.
LexLuthor - 10/16/2009, 7:48 PM
@Lex, Wolverine is one of my favorites too, but Fox has destroyed a lot of my interest in the character, unfortunately. He's become a prostitute for fox, being disgraced, and taken advantage of, for a quick buck. And the worst part is, that the actor playing him, just doesn't give a damn.
supermarioworldE - 10/16/2009, 8:23 PM
I CAN'T SAY HUGH JACKMAN DOESNT GIVE A DAMN, HE TRAINED LIKE CRAZY TO GET THE MUSCULATURE, HE CARES, MAYBE STUDIOS WITH THE MONEY MAY HAVE CERTAIN CREATIVE INTERJECTIONS BUT WHAT DO YOU DO? THERE PAYING FOR IT...I HAVE NO ILL WILL TOWARD HUGH JACKMAN, THE GUY'S A CLASS ACT.
GUNSMITH - 10/16/2009, 9:26 PM
Wait... Dakota Fanning is a chick!?!
shibazz - 10/16/2009, 10:28 PM
Push was shite! Wolverine was aswell unless you went into it with no knowledge of the character other than supplied by the x films, in which case it was a competent action movie! As is reflected by the box office it generated!
wards - 10/17/2009, 3:29 AM
Glad im not the only one who hated Push.....but hey LEEE liked it lol :P
teabag - 10/17/2009, 4:30 AM
"the noble warrior, as opposed to the berserker."

I'm all for the Japan thing but in four movies we are yet to really see the berserker! The movie Wolverine has been made into a soft wet pussy! As much as I like soft wet pussy ;) we need the rough edged killing machine Wolverine is supposed to be before we water him down anymore!

And on the Watchmen thing. Both GN and Movie are fantastic. I personally prefer the movie ending, it just works better and ties things up a little neater than the squid. But like Ror01 said, we need to separate these things in our head a little and take them as two different mediums.
Ron - 10/17/2009, 4:50 AM
@ wards, Even in light of the other X films wolverine was lame. My history of the x-men is gathered from sporadic comic books and the animated series, so i dont know the intricacies of the comic books that much but that movie was badly flawed. It was like the Episode I of X-film:

Logan is Anakin you know his potential but he just doesnt get there.
Deadpool(Not Wade!) was Jar Jar Binks
Sabretooth was Darth Maul

Unfortunately there was nothing as thrilling as pod racing
breakUbatman - 10/17/2009, 6:00 AM
Look, you can say what you like about Origins(and chances are Shibazz has!) But the fact of the matter is, it wasn't ALL bad. Anyone that can't admit that despite their script problems, Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrirber were awesome as Logan and Creed is just being obtuse and stubborn in their hatred of the movie. Personally I also enjoyed a couple of other elements..but even just those 2 plus points still elevate the movie above so many other COMPLETE wastes of celluloid we have seen this year. Yes, it was disappointing as hell, yes I want to see a much better sequel, but it still stands head and shoulders above the likes of Punisher(both of them), both FF movies, Elektra...maybe even on par with X3.
RorMachine - 10/17/2009, 10:30 AM
ROR@ damn right :)
teabag - 10/17/2009, 10:45 AM
I AGREE ROR.
GUNSMITH - 10/17/2009, 6:09 PM
Yes, but c'mon Rorschach... you gotta admit the bad outweighs the good in this movie.

And you can say the opposite about a movie and still doesn't change the outcome.

Green Lantern First Flight was an alright movie, sure it had it's flaws, but it's still an alright animated movie.

Xmen Origins: Wolverine was a weak movie, sure it had some moments, but it's still a weak-ass movie.
LexLuthor - 10/18/2009, 12:20 AM
Wolverine and the X-Men movies are DONE time to move on hopefully they'll get Green Lantern and Deadpool right.
My son who's eight didnt even like Wolverine...I have to say the first 10min were cool after that it had a few moments here and there.
X-Men3 now Wolverine maybe they need to take a break regroup or let someone else take over. Cant believe they're making another one. Oh well can't be worst than the first or any of the FF movies.
