In a nearly 2 hour podcast about X-Men: Days of Future Past with host Jeff Goldsmith, after 1 hour and 12 minutes in, Simon Kinberg reveals that the "next movie takes place in 1983," 10 years after Days of Future Past.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, and Evan Peters are expected to return, and it has been confirmed that younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm will appear, along with Gambit, and possibly a younger Nightcrawler.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theatres May 27, 2016!

I love the fact that the X-Men movies are period pieces.
DEVLIN712 - 6/15/2014, 2:00 PM
1980s would be a few years after Dazzler gave up being a pop star, maybe we'll see her
Vegeta - 6/15/2014, 2:01 PM
I wish more comic book movies were period pieces. It makes things more interesting, in my opinion.
McNyagano - 6/15/2014, 2:01 PM
So the next film after Apocalypse will be set in 1993 right?
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:01 PM
More Fake X-Men?

DEVLIN712 - 6/15/2014, 2:03 PM
There's a part of me that wants Fox to continue the current franchise with McAvoy and Fassbender, I think they are perfect for Charles and Eric. But... the X-Men fan in me want's a reboot with the original five taking on Sinister or Magneto.
Vegeta - 6/15/2014, 2:04 PM
I hope they stick around in the 80s for a bit.
TheAbaryMan369 - 6/15/2014, 2:04 PM
Wait wasn't Patrick Stewart the Professor X from the 80's? I get that they reset the continuity, but that doesn't mean Xavier is suddenly going to look younger just because of that.
JoJo1982 - 6/15/2014, 2:06 PM
Cool!!!

Then Gambit costume should fit right in
RextheKing - 6/15/2014, 2:06 PM
Makes sense, they need to fill the timeline from where Wolverine was pulled out the water to the point where he remembers what he went through to save the future.
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:07 PM
My question is . . . . if Days of Future Past reset the timeline from 1973 onward, where the hell was Apocalypse in the original timeline?

Wouldn't he have come to power in the 80's, twenty years before the first X-Men movie? What happened to him? Surely nothing that occurred in DOFP caused a mutant from Egypt to come to power, especially if he is over 5000 years old.
thewonderer - 6/15/2014, 2:07 PM
DrDoom

Sad that even fake X-Men are better than those mindless marvel studio films.

Vegeta - 6/15/2014, 2:07 PM
My ideal X-Men team is Jean, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine and Beast, and we're supposedly getting that in Apocalypse, so it's all good to me.
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:09 PM
WondyBread

You can be wrong if you want. It doesn't affect me, really.

Oh, look, it's all the [frick]s I give about your opinions!
JoJo1982 - 6/15/2014, 2:11 PM
@batmaniac

DOFP fix everything so we can see that

Imagine finally see that team fighting Apocalypse now

More action similar to what we saw in future scenes
DEVLIN712 - 6/15/2014, 2:11 PM
@Doom
The absence of Sentinels allowed someone like Sinister (who might have been killed by them) was able to wake him?
LEEE777 - 6/15/2014, 2:12 PM
Before SECRET WARS then...

Lol :P
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:14 PM
@Devlin

But the Sentinels didn't appear to do any real damage until at least forty years after 1973 in the original timeline. Apocalypse would still have existed in the 80s, regardless of the state of the Sentinel program, because it was nowhere near completion at that time.
WinterSoldier33 - 6/15/2014, 2:16 PM
I really can't wait for 2016

BVS
Apocalypse
Cap 3
Bona fett
ASM 3
Shazam

Don't really care for doctor strange or sandman
MCUfan1 - 6/15/2014, 2:16 PM
Christopher Judge should play and voice Apocalypse.
DefcoN - 6/15/2014, 2:17 PM
I have no doubt that Apocalypse will be badass, but we should start to accept the fact that he'll probably look nothing like the villain we know from the comics. Maybe he will after all, but Fox has a particular vision when it comes to portraying their X-men characters.
ALegendaryPanda - 6/15/2014, 2:20 PM
I like how certain people who cry about "The Fake X-Men" feel the need to comment on every thread related to Fox or the X-Men. But I guess some people just enjoy saying the same shit every day..

McNyagano - 6/15/2014, 2:23 PM
@Omega

@thewonderer

You might wanna take it easy on the Fox kool-laid bro;) Yeah DOFP was a great film but a very poor X-MEN film. There's a difference.

JoJo1982 - 6/15/2014, 2:25 PM
@omega

I'm sure Fox will show FF and Secret Service

As far as Xmen, we probably want get nothing or maybe just a small tease of what to come
MexicanSuperman - 6/15/2014, 2:25 PM
@ DrDoom, every single comic book adaptation is the fake version.
Niklander - 6/15/2014, 2:26 PM
DOFP:The X-Men we need BUT not the one we deserve right now
Niklander - 6/15/2014, 2:26 PM
^^That goes for every single X-Men movie
marvel72 - 6/15/2014, 2:28 PM
so from x-men first class(1963)to x-men apocalypse(1983) none of them look like they've aged twenty years.

anyway everything will be alright,the x-men look perfectly fine at the end of days of future past which is meant to be set in the year 2023,so no danger from apocalypse f*ckin things up for them.
JoJo1982 - 6/15/2014, 2:28 PM
Listening to this podcast

Surprising Simon mention Cable was in talks

And they had Rachel Summers in the script......thank god they took them out, cause it would make even more complicated then it is now
HalfDeaf - 6/15/2014, 2:30 PM
(SPOILER) for those who ain't seen it:

At the ending of DoFP (SPOILER) Wolvie wakes up into the X-Mansion in clothing that does not looks as it was set in the 80s...so how does this come accordingly to the timeline of apocalypse? =S
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:30 PM
@MexicanSuperman

Yeah, I'm sure you were thinking that the TASM movies were 'fake' when you continuously say that they are 'perfect' renditions of the character.

Come on man, you're better than this.

@ALegendaryPanda

That argument doesn't hold any weight. At all.

If the same people can come on every X-Men thread and say about how 'excited' they are for Apocalypse, then I can come on every X-Men thread and say about how I am not.
ALegendaryPanda - 6/15/2014, 2:34 PM
@DrDoom

Exactly, you can. It's just idiotic to me. Why even bother following a movie you're clearly not interested in?
BATMANx - 6/15/2014, 2:35 PM
Captain America 2 was better than X-MEN DOFP. better fight scenes and a great story
Vegeta - 6/15/2014, 2:35 PM
It really comes down to what you do and don't care about. Some people don't care about the lack of colourful costumes in X-Men movies, while others don't care that Hank Pym is going to be a senior citizen. If you're going to call one movie fake for deviating the source, then stay consistent and call the rest of them fake for doing the same thing.

It's perfectly fine to pick and choose what changes you do and don't like, but own it for what it is, instead of going on like it's okay for one, and not the other.
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:36 PM
@ALegendaryPanda

Because I'm a fan of the X-Men.
Vegeta - 6/15/2014, 2:37 PM
For example, I [frick]ing loathe what they're doing with Gotham, but at the end of the day, they're just simply doing something different. It's still Batman and Gotham. It's just not a Batman and Gotham I'm interested in seeing.
ALegendaryPanda - 6/15/2014, 2:38 PM
@DrDoom

Correction: You're a fan of the X-Men COMICS. You're obviously not a fan of the MOVIES, which is what we're discussing.

THIS!!!!

Ppl only choose what they liked, that was changed from the comic material and bitch/complain over the things they didn't like..... Every studio has done it
SauronsBANE - 6/15/2014, 2:41 PM
"I think the biggest bittersweet thing for me with DOFP was that they took what was pretty much a perfect set up for a true X Men movie - The ending of First Class - and instead decided to back track all of that progress and do a retread with the original cast."

I kind of...really agree with that, actually. I've been pretty lukewarm about DoFP, and I haven't exactly been 100% sure why. It wasn't as obviously flawed as something like TASM 2 or anything, but it just didn't connect with me as much as The Winter Soldier did.

Maybe that's why? Maybe it's because First Class had the perfect opportunity to reboot the entire thing, but it got dragged back into the lesser-quality of the original movies with DoFP? Interesting.
DrDoom - 6/15/2014, 2:41 PM
A fan of X-Men comics, cartoons and video games shouldn't talk about X-Men movies, just because he doesn't like how they misrepresent the characters and stories, at least, according to Panda's logic.

Oh, woe is me. How did I not see it before?
