Andrew Garfield Reveals Why He Decided To Take On The Role Of Spider-Man!

"I'm not thinking about Spider-Man," he told The Vancouver Sun while promoting his new movie, The Social Network, where he plays Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. "I accepted Spider-Man because it means a great deal to me, and that's the only reason."

"Spidey is a great symbol: The skinny 20-year-old who feels stronger on the inside than he looks on the outside...I'm very skinny," he laughed.

"Right now, I'm just honestly appreciative of the great stories I've been given the chance to tell. I am an actor and I only want to be an actor. I can't give the other stuff credence."

The following is an interview the actor did with MTV News earlier this week where he talks about how he feels when working on a new film set including the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. It's not really interesting enough to post on it's own so I figured I'd include it here!

"I'm never, ever comfortable when I first walk onto a film set. It's like the first day of school all over again, and then all over again, and then all over again! Hopefully, I'll never be comfortable with it, otherwise I'll just become lazy. If I grow comfortable with it, I just won't work very hard. But if I think scared and insecure, if I'm feeling the pressure, hopefully that will make me work harder and create something better."

"I think he's an important figure of mythology for every skinny young boy across the world, myself included. Yeah, it's a dream come true."

Spider-Man 3D will be released on July 3, 2012!

Nice! As much as I see the reboot as pointless, I'm sure he will be a great Spidey.

His performance in The Social Network is more than enough proof that this guy is Spider-Man. He's going to nail this.

@ leee777

agreed,should of just made spider-man 4-6.

i don't mind a reboot as long as half the film isn't taken up by origin,you can tell that story in the opening credits just like they did with the incredible hulk.

sorry,its like all actors his doing it for the money.

who's gonna turn down a three movie deal,good chance his gonna get $5 million a film.

his gonna jump at the chance.

I agree that this reboot is pointless but I am looking forward to them hopefully making up for some of the mistakes that Sam Raimi's movies made...Gwen Stacy and not killing off every single villain at the end of the movies to name a couple of examples! Either way, I'm now 110% convinced that Garfield is the right choice. Marc Webb however I still have my doubts about...

For real i don't think its that hard of a decision. I mean when your an actor the entire goal is to get famous. It really doesn't matter what the movie is about or what your role is you are just trying to get your face out there and have people notice you.

elephantknowsbest:

your ignorance is showing.

i'm an actor, and i have many actor friends. the goal is NOT to get famous, at least not for the vast majority of actors. actors becomes actors because they love to act; they love to tell stories. when you're an actor, you get to become part of telling stories from perspectives you never would have experienced otherwise. when you're famous you have photographers chasing after you everywhere, and your face is plastered all over E! news (gag me) and adolescent girls' bedroom walls.

lots of people don't want to get famous, and lots of people who are famous wish they weren't. that's why huge actors often do more bit roles or independent films than lead roles in blockbuster films. for example: phillip seymour hoffman, jim carrey, hugh jackman, hugo weaving, steve buscemi, jeff bridges, steve carrell, robert redford, sean penn, john rhys-davies...

obviously you don't know best.

How is his American accent? I haven't seen him in anything besides The Social Network trailer, as far as I know.

I hate to be a "Debbie Downer," but I'm pretty positive that this movie is going to blow. The first one was good, the second, I feel, was way better, and then Sam Raimi decided to take it into a nose dive. Now, there's a reboot because Sony got pissy because Sam Raimi wanted to take, yet another, original take on a classic story (or he just stopped caring). I admit that Toby McGuire was, I thought, an odd choice (a better choice than the first pick, Heath Ledger), but he turned out to own that role. But now we have Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, I just don't buy it. Emma Stone will make an excellent Mary Jane. I will go see it, mainly because I'm a slave for any Marvel movie... Except Thor, that movie (and character) can go to Hell, or Hades, whatever floats your boat across the river of the dead...

If this guy cant speak english than thats sad. Marvel is really ruining things. Even tho Raimi killed all the villians it was still good. If this guy is a good actor ok but will he have to do CGI for every swing? Its not how good you will play spiderman its counts as if your good enough to do the stunts

@Ror and Lee

Damn right, it should have been a continuation. Retcon some of the more bad elements of the original trilogy (Ock's and Venom's death etc) and do a loose continuation. Its pointless doing a reboot because Marvel will eventually just do another reboot once Sony is done with the character in another ten years

@BossVersion

I dont know if this is anything to go by but here is Andrew doing an American accent in Doctor Who, go to 1:00, he starts talking there

the accent is pretty good, it might need a little improving though

Thanks for the link. Not bad. His voice sounds like it fits Peter Parker pretty well.

deadpool72:

i've mostly done stagework and a few short films, the biggest one of which was probably "s.w.i.m. club," about a group of murderers who act like a high school clique. i've only ever had one random couple stop me at a bar who recognized me from that film. haha.

other than that, the biggest thing i've been in (so far anyway) was "adventureland," which came out a few years ago. truth be told, i was inches away from going to read for the part of kick-ass, because i and all my friends think i look a lot more like the dave liezewski from the comic than aaron johnson does. but i never made it to the reading...haha. oh well.
