Neil Gaiman recently revealed that production on Netflix's adaptation of his seminal DC Vertigo comic series The Sandman was set to commence in October, and while we haven't had an official announcement from the streaming service, he has now confirmed that cameras began rolling last week.

While responding to a fan on Twitter, Gaiman revealed that shooting kicked off on Oct. 15, and the very first scene the filmed focused on Roderick Burgess gaining possession of the Magdalene Grimoire; an occult book which he uses to (inadvertently) capture Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams.

In a follow up Tweet, Gaiman explained that the pandemic put a stop to them moving to the U.S., and the entirely of the first season will be shot in the U.K.

It sounds like an official cast reveal is imminent. Will it confirm a recent report that British actor Tom Sturridge (The Boat That Rocked, On The Road) will play The Sandman? What about the rumor that Liam Hemsworth and Dacre Montgomery were being eyed for The Corinthian? Time will tell.

The 11-episode first season of The Sandman is expected to adapt the first arc of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes," which finds Morpheus captured by a black magician and held prisoner for the better part of a century. When he finally escapes, he sets about recovering three very important items, encountering Lucifer, John Constantine, Doctor Destiny, Martian Manhunter and more on his travels.

Gaiman is developing the show along with David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. No premiere date has been set.

I didn't know this was going to Netflix. Most of the time Netflix adaptations feel very unstylish or like creator's vision (yes I'm calling them made for mass consumerism), but I hope this will be different. Really looking forward to this.

Curious about this. Not excited, though, really. Wary. It just seems unlikely they'll be able to do the comic justice. The cast reveal will be the first important test.

I wonder if they're gonna have Tom Ellis come back as Lucifer?

are they doing the 24 hours portion of this first arc, cause that could be a problem.
