Who Should Direct The Avengers Movie?

So we know that Jon Favreau (unfortunately) will not be directing the Avengers movie. But who could?

First off, I'd like to say that I'm new to CBM.com so be gentle :). A lot of people wanted Jon to direct the film, but he won't be, so we have to go through other choices. Here are just a few of directors that I think will be able to handle this "epic".

STEVEN SPIELBERG

Steven is a great director. He's directed great films such as Jaws, Raiders and Saving Private Ryan. Now those last two had two things that Avengers needs: 1) great performances 2)great action sequences. He has the ability to get great performances out of actors and he knows how to shoot spectacular action scenes. He is also a great story teller, which is another important thing Avengers needs.

ALFONSO CUARON

I don't really know how to explain this choice. Something about it just feels right to me. Children of Men was great, especially that last, one take shot of Clive Owen running through all the warfare. Cuaron knows how to direct epic scenarios and has shown that he can also pull great performances out of his actors, as well.

NEILL BLOMKAMP

Now, this is a fan favorite on numerous sites and I can see why. District 9, in my opinion, deserves Best Picture. It was this guys first major film and he knocked it out of the park. I think that he has all the talents needed to bring The Avengers to the screen. Sadly, though, he probably won't direct it, since he said that he doesn't want to direct big budgeted movies. But you never know.

MATTHEW VAUGHN

Here's another fan favorite. He also wants to direct The Avengers. He has a great style when it comes to his films. Now I haven't seen his films yet, but I just threw this name in because everyone else likes him. Also, Kick-Ass looks awesome :).

LOUIS LETERRIER

This guy is a great choice for The Avengers! He directed The Incredible Hulk, which was awesome and Clash of the Titans looks epic! So i think that he would be able to make the Avengers something to behold. But, really cool action scenes aren't the only thing that needs to be in Avengers. Can he do more then that? I think so.

MARC FORSTER

I'm not the only one that really liked Quantum of Solace, am I? I thought that Marc did a great job with the sequel to Casino Royale. And that would be no easy task in order to live up to Martin Campbell's great movie. He has shown with Quantum Of Solace and Monster's Ball that he is pretty damn good at directing action and making quality films.

And who do I think is the best person to direct The Avengers you ask? Well, I don't have just one...

JOE JOHNSTON, JON FAVREAU, KENNETH BRANAGH, AND LOUIS LETERRIER

I personally think that the directors of The Incredible Hulk, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, and Iron Man should come together and direct Avengers themselves. Now this is a long shot, but I think that it would be the best idea for the directors of all the canon films to direct the film their films have been leading to. It just makes sense, doesn't it?

Well, that's all I have to say. (Sorry that some of the pictures are big, I couldn't really find any smaller ones. damn you photobucket!) Tell me what you think in the comments below. ;)

Nice choices, I personally would love to see LOUIS LETERRIER direct it, but I think Marvel is planning on having Jon, Louis, Joe and Kenneth as heavily involved producers. Having all 4 of them direct could be tricky, if it worked out it would be awesome, but directors each have thier own style to fit all 4 styles in without a couple of fights would be tricky as hell.

Good choices though ;)

Leterrier would be awesome! I'd like to see all four of them have a shot, but like Ryden said, too many creative minds going would be chaotic.

Spielberg is too big I think. Has he done a CBM at all? Anyway, not sure if I like that idea. Vaughn would also be good.

Ratner FTW! Ugh...

@The4thWall- Welcome to CBM! Being that you will at some time be called a name, I'll just get it out of the way: You're an epic douchebag! There, all done! Welcome and have fun! Great first article!!

Favs would be ideal IMO, but since he'll only be an exec. producer, I'd love to see Leterrier take a whack at it.

Spielberg is definetly too big for a CBM. He's more into his own stuff.

I think the best choice out of the list would LOUIS LETERRIER. He did awesome with Hulk and if Clash of the Titans is as good as it looks he would do it justice.

@wolverinpt yeah I think that probably is the smarter choice, but I heard it on a couple of sites nd thought that it would be kinda cool. and thanks!

Leterrier is making a name for himself with action movies.

Lets just see how well Branagh and Johnston do with their movies and we might have a winner. If Branagh nails Thor, he would be my choice to bring the Thunder God to the science based Avengers (IM and the Pyms)

ILL PICK THE FANTASTIC FOUR!!! (Branagh, Johnston, Leterriee and Farveau)

rocking@ that would be epic, if all 4 co-directed it but
like they say, too many cooks spoil the broth!

Lettier is my preference since Favreau said he wasn't!
But JJ Abrams would be good too, bring in a different
director entirely!

Branagh wouldn't be bad either! But maybe it would be
better to bring a different director for THE AVENGERS
since the other guys are pretty well wrapped up in their
solo AVENGERS sequels.

What about Peter Jackson? Definitely has experience in making Epics.

or

Del Toro who we all know made the Hellboys

or

Joss Whedon who could also probably do it but he may conflict with the studios like he did about the Wonder Woman film he was wanting made.

@Durast yea, Peter Jackson would be cool

Leterrier would have to make room for Edward Norton since he always takes control during his movies, the collaboration of the four directors with a big time director herding them would be a great idea, but someone said the script was the important part, true and that could ruin the movie, I say put Cammeron in charge, he doesn't have original ideas and would just do what the big four said, plus his name would pull in fans, writng it would have to fall into the laps of someone whose written comics though, what do you think about a writer.
The4thWall
The4thWall - 3/2/2010, 4:41 PM
@ Brandonwlobo well we're stuck with Zack Penn, but for a writer I think I need to think...maybe the writers of Star Trek but I think they would be better at a Superman movie for some reason.
