Oh, domestically. I thought it meant world wide. Whatever. Box office doesn't matter anyway. Especially with literally no competition.

@Starfox Indeed, seems a bit blatant here. Not sure it was necessary to put it in the title.

Oh geez, DC fans if there's anything I can say to you all I'll simply say "Don't fall for the trap." Your time is coming soon to celebrate as well.

other than that, congrats on the continued success Gunn and may Marvel continue shipping out the goods for both fans and general audiences everywhere.

dawn of the planet of the apes,guardians of the galaxy & x-men days of future past were great & deserve to make the money they have.

haven't seen maleficent yet,so i don't know how good or bad that is,same goes for transformers age of extinction.

as for the teenage mutant ninja turtles,i have seen it(regrettably) & its a bag of shit.

Last time I checked Man Of Steel had to put up with the two highest grossing animated films of the year and a Brad Pitt movie, while Guardians Of The Galaxy had virtually no truly serious competition. Plus, Guardians is WAY more kid friendly than Man Of Steel, and kids who didn't understand Man Of Steel sure as hell didn't go back a second time, unlike Guardians where most kids picked up on it right away.

Quick thoughts: MoS grossed very well based on that the previous iterations were terribly recieved, and it opened against some pretty stiff competition. So it had a lot of hurdles to overcome, and was a huge success.

But, good for Guardians! I thought the movie was pretty good, so I'm happy it's turning a profit.

@Zeek

Definitely a controversial title. It's not untrue though so I don't really care. I misunderstood it at fist. Thought it meant worldwide gross.

BTW, I do find it hilarious that Josh just couldn't resist the urge to make note that Guardians Of The Galaxy topped Man Of Steel right in the title instead of just waiting to put it in the article.

I'm not normally one to comment on movie grosses. I mean, these are like race horses for movie nerds, really, so I don't see a crime in it. I just don't do it that often. But if this does half as well in China as it did here, you're looking at this movie doing at least 750 million. And I don't care how much money China gets; when the trades report grosses they report everything. So that's good enough for me. The bottom line, I think that beats even the most optimistic appraisals of how well this movie was gonna do. Well I guess there's that one guy who predicted a billion.

@Dingbat I thought so too.

I have no preference between DC and Marvel, just a comic fan, so it didn't bother me. But damn. What a title.

ROFL..

SO the "RISKY" property no one has ever heard of is topping the most well known superhero of all time...

You have to love the excuse machines. MoS lost week 2 to Monsters U, which sucked. Why did it only make about 60% of what the studio hoped? Because it was a typical slow Zak Snyder movie. The reviews were HORRIBLE, the RT was in the 50s, and generally most people outside of dedicated fandom did not like it at all..Also consider how much WB invested in MoS vs Marvel in guardians. MoS, even though it did better then Thor 2 at Box oFfice, cost almost twice as much to make.

This movie wasn't against MoS's pace or anyones..it competed with itself. The first unknown franchise...and it won big. Doesnt matter if you love or hate the MCU, its a Winner Winner Chicken Dinner no matter how you look at it for Marvel/Disney...

@TheAbaryMan369

Truth. Let people say what they want though. They act as if it's a victory for them if a movie they like makes more money. What, is Marvel sending them a check?

Loved both movies so I'm happy for it's success but BO doesn't matter. I loved Dredd more than Guardians and that movie made less than $45 million Worldwide. No sequel :(
