PUNISHER: Marvel Comics Reveals Who Will Take Over From Frank Castle In New Series

Last week, Marvel Comics teased the debut of a new character who will take up the mantle of The Punisher from Frank Castle, and during tonight's Heroes, Hulks, and Super-Soldiers panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the individual's identity was revealed.

A brand-new series from award-winning writer David Pepose (Savage Avengers, Moon Knight: City of the Dead) and artist Dave Wachter (Planet of the Apes, X-Men Legends) will introduce retired S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Joe Garrison as the ultra-violent vigilante.

"In this action-packed new PUNISHER saga, Frank Castle has disappeared, but evil will always need to be punished. With all-new threats rising to claim innocent victims, criminals will need to beware of a dangerous vigilante hunting them from the shadows. Enter a new Punisher: retired S.H.I.E.L.D. black ops agent Joe Garrison. But what brings him back into action? What put Joe Garrison on his path of vengeance? And when the smoke clears, will he even make it out alive?"

And lets say Punisher was a black trans woman or any of those identities separate amongst themselves, what would be the issue? Why would her taking that mantle need to be justified, but some random white dude taking the mantle is okay? Is it because white men are inherently the default?

@comicfan100 - 1) well I'm not getting anything in media today, so of course my standards for humor are low 🤣

2) ...the issue is that the punisher is a white straight man. He isn't a black trans woman. And I think it's dumb in general anyone else taking on the role of the punisher, but specifically going with a list of boxes to check isn't something anyone wants. They just want the punisher, frank castle.

And it's showing the lack of creativity that they have to effectively high jack an existing character, rather than just make a new character being whatever you want them to be.

So, apparently, the reason for the mantle and logo change is because cops and the far-right co-opted the skull insignia. But I'm not sure making him a fed helps matters much.

@TheBlueMorpho - Not yet, but I have my eye on it. Really love what Ennis does with the character. I'm hoping his recent stuff - The Platoon, The Soviet, Get Fury all get collected into another Max Trade.
