The critics have spoken and Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery is now officially certified fresh on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. With 27 reviews counted thus far, the third season of the CBS All Access series boasts a 93% fresh rating on the Tomatometer.

The critical consensus praises the season for its character development as the series continues to "forge its own path."

With less canonical baggage and a welcome dose of character development, Discovery continues to forge its own path and is narratively all the better for it.

Even fans seem to be on board with the latest season achieving a 62% audience score thus far. This is surely welcomed news for CBS All Access as the streaming service recently announced that Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a fourth season. Production on the upcoming season is slated to begin on November 2.

It's even more promising for the streaming service which has ramped up its production on all things Star Trek lately. In addition to Discovery, CBS All Access is home to Picard and the adult animated comedy Lower Decks. Multiple live-action and animated series are also in development, including ProdigyStar Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Section 31.

Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery picks with the crew emerging from the wormhole they entered into in the second season finale and landing in an unknown future. "Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation," the synopsis teases. Two episodes have been released so far with new episodes premiering every Thursday on the streaming service.

Star Trek is dead, just watch the originals and The Next Generation.

You know when Star Trek was good.

@marvel72 - Hey, DS9 wasn't bad. I even liked Voyager at the time, although I don't know if I still would if I rewatched it today.

I want to see some opinions from people who aren't crying man-babies. You Next Generation fanboys make it really difficult to get a truly objective opinion about this show.

@Willnotconform - but why? I want objective reasons. Just saying "its a shit show" makes you come across as a Next Gen fanboy.

@globaltravels - I loved TNG, excepting the first couple of seasons which I missed and had largely dated too badly to go back to. DS9 I wanted to like but TBH was bat shit boring 60% of the time because of the same shit tonne of dialogue repeated ad nauseum. I loved Voyager ([frick] you haters), like Enterprise, liked the first JJ film ok, thought the second was shit.
And I love Discovery. I will admit that it walks the line very closely with the level of violence as it is “not the Starfleet/Federation way”, but it is certainly more realistic showing that side of things in a war time setting. It is my feeling that the Star Trek tragics have a problem with that darkness as was never a part (overtly at least) of the previous series’ hence the frequent opinion that its “not Star Trek”. Personally I like that feeling of unease as it treads that knife’s edge between doing what is easy - and probably justifiable - versus the hope and honour that Starfleet is supposed to be. It’s the darkness that makes that light shine brightest.

Never had any doubt. Sometime it takes time for a show to find it's footing. All shows go through that. I for one is one of the few that LOVED the Klingons new look. I always thought they should look more alien. My only nitpick....I would have made them like 7 to 9 feet tall...dwarfing humans.

Current Trek is not for me. I’ll gladly watch anything from the classic up to Enterprise but anything after that isn’t Trek to me.

Said this before for those who seem to think TNG is the end all and be all of Trek. The first two seasons of TNG were just a weak imitation of TOS but it drastically improved with each subsequent season. The same can be said for Discovery. Each season exceeds the previous. The 2nd season really had a lot of high points. The introduction of Pike and Spock among them. It also set up the premise for this season which has a lot of potential although it does remind me of the premise of Andromeda. But considering Andromeda was a Roddenberry creation, I guess its all good. Haters are going to hate and find reasons to hate. I'm liking Discovery so far. No its not perfect but it does keep improving which gives me for the future.
