The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel will swing into theaters in 2022, and there's understandably a lot of excitement surrounding the follow-up to the 2018 Oscar winner. Little is known about the plot, though a post-credits scene with Spider-Man 2099 indicated that we'll probably be spending some time with that version of the web-slinger next time around.

It's also been reported that the relationship between Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen will continue to be explored, so chances are this trio will be the movie's leads (fans are bound to be hoping that more alternate versions of Spider-Man will make their presence felt, however).

Time will tell on that front, but animator Nick Kondo has taken to Twitter today to reveal that he's started work on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel - confirmation, perhaps, that production has begun. We're probably still a long way off from seeing anything official from the movie, of course, but this is definitely a good sign that COVID-19 hasn't slowed things down too drastically.

Recently, it was revealed that Sony Pictures decided not to include cameos from Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland in the first instalment, so the hope is that could change in the sequel as it's definitely something fans want to see.

Check out Kondo's Tweet below:

@Nebula - I guess video game spiderman would be cool. Although really if we are going to see a traditional Peter Parker, id go with Josh Keaton

@Nebula - I really hope that spiderman isn't in this movie. I already dislike him being apart of the spider geddon comic.

It's too soon for that spiderman to be doing inter dimensional stuff. There is no more escalation if he goes straight to multi dimensions without having even fought green goblin or venom yet. I think after his game series is complete then they can have him show up in these big crossover stuff.

@dracula - No, he tweets out some really idiotic, tone-deaf shit. I don't think it's a firable offense, but I hope he realizes what he was implying

@dracula - listening to the same voice that said Rosa Parks could've taken a cab also recite Miles' lines is definitely going to be a struggle

Bold move to start production on a Spider-Verse sequel without even casting the main character yet

@OmegaDaGrodd - guess they can animated the scenes when they have their masks on, no lip movement to match up

Unpopular opinion: I would rather have a standalone Miles sequel (and maybe fun spin-offs of various Spider-People) than more multiverse crossovers. I have never liked Spider-Man having big multiverse stories (not in the 90's show's finale, not in the Shattered Dimensions game and definitely not in the Spider-Verse comic storyline), since IMO the character works best when the scale is small and the focus is on the personal drama.

Miles' personal character arc was my favorite part of the first Spider-Verse movie, while I was pretty meh on the alternative universe shenanigans.

@FinnishDude - I agree. Into the spider verse is my favorite spidey movie, but I prefer having small scale spidey stories where he isnt saving the world or evolved in some world ending event. I also feel like it takes a bit of what makes spiderman spiderman away, as there are multiple spidermen and miles or peter arent ‘special’ in a sense. In the context of into the spiderverse it worked as a way for miles’ origin but I wouldnt want/need to see it again.

Into The Spider-Verse was a masterpiece, up there with Spider-Man 2 and TDK for me. Can't wait.

Awesome. Gonna be very difficult to live up to the first one tho. But the guy who's directing it (Joaquim Dos Santos) has made a lot of Justice League Unlimited episodes and some Avatar/Legend of Korra.

Yeah... It's in good hands. Also, please give my boy Miguel legit screentime in the second one.
