THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Debunks Report That A Bloodsport Spinoff Is In Development

A rumor did the rounds earlier today that a The Suicide Squad spinoff focusing on Idris Elba's Bloodsport is in the works at Warner Bros., but director James Gunn has now weighed-in on Twitter.

Though comparisons to Will Smith's Deadshot were unavoidable (and valid, to a degree), Robert Dubois, aka Bloodsport, proved to be one of the many highlights of The Suicide Squad and emerged as the closest thing the movie had to a primary protagonist.

For that reason, fans have been wondering when/if they'd get to see the tech-savy mercenary in action again, and there was a lot of excitement online when a rumor that a Bloodsport project (the report didn't state whether it was a movie or series) gained some traction earlier today.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any truth to the story, as director James Gunn has debunked the report on Twitter - though he did add that there is a "possibility of seeing more Bloodsport in the near future."

The Suicide Squad underperformed at the box office, but it is currently the most-watched DC Comics movie on HBO Max, and if the upcoming Peacemaker show proves to be a hit, there's every chance WB will decide to revisit some of the other members of Task Force X down the line. Plus, Elba has expressed interest in exploring his character's history with Superman.

What do you guys think? Would you be interested in a Bloodsport spinoff?
