A first look at the upcoming DMZ TV series has been revealed by Ava DuVernay. The filmmaker took to Twitter a couple of days ago to share some photos with fans, giving them an idea of what to expect from the DC Comics adaptation.

Planned as a four-episode miniseries, DMZ was announced last October as being in development for HBO Max. Robert Patino, an executive producer on the series, is writing the entire run, while DuVernay is directing the pilot episode. She's also serving as an executive producer.

Based on the DC Comics series written by Brian Wood and illustrated by Riccardo Burchielli, DMZ takes place in a world where Manhattan is caught between two warring factions: the United States of America and the secessionist Free States of America. Rosario Dawson plays Alma Ortega, a fierce medic who goes on a harrowing journey to find the son she lost at the beginning of the conflict.

The series will also introduce Parco Delgado (Benjamin Bratt), the popular and deadly leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ. It also stars Hoon Lee (Warrior), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us), and Jordan Preston Carter (The Haves and the Have Nots).

DuVernay = Pass. Don't want or need a sermon from an activist fed to me under the guise of entertainment.

I care less about any messages DuVernay's movies may hold than the fact I'm not sure she's that good a director.

Never read the book and I'll probably check it out before watching this. I don't dislike anyone involved so that's... good

I'll be honest and this is my own taste I guess. But in the pantheon of great new directors that have emerged in the last decade or so, I just don't get the credit DuVernay gets. Selma was a great film but I feel like that was because of the subject matter. And When They See Us was great too but all her other stuff is pretty bland. I'm not saying she's bad or anything but I wouldn't rate her anywhere near as high as a lot of people do.

All my personal opinion ofcourse.
