X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX May Be A "Two-Parter" According To Psylocke Actress Olivia Munn
While she's been evasive in the past, Olivia Munn has now basically confirmed her return for X-Men: Dark Phoenix and has also seemingly revealed another major detail about the upcoming Marvel blockbuster.
In an extended interview with Collider, actress Olivia Munn has confirmed that she will indeed return as Elizabeth Braddock a.k.a. Psylocke in the upcoming 20th Century Fox production, X-Men: Dark Phoenix., which is being helmed by Simon Kinberg and will return a vast majority of the X-Men: Apocalypse cast. However, while her return is big news in itself, it was the latter part of her response that was considerably more interesting.
When pressed about her role in the movie, she vaguely replied, "I don’t know what I’m supposed to say. I’m supposed to be vague. That’s my answer. I’m horrible at that. It’s like a two parter, this movie. That’s more than I’ve said, in general. I don’t know why people have to be so secretive."
A two parter? Could Dark Phoenix actually follow in the footsteps of Avengers: Infinity War and be split into two films that tell the full Dark Phoenix story? Or is she referring to Apocalypse & Dark Phoenix as two parts? If the former turns out to be true, then it would somewhat help explain why the studio has been so much more secretive about this project over their other two upcoming X-Men universe projects: New Mutants and Deadpool 2. Fox does also already have three Untitled Fox/Marvel films slated for 2019 and three for 2020, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that one of those dates was booked for a potential sequel.
While, not elaborating any further on the extent of her role, Munn did take a moment to express her support for Kinberg, who is helming his first big-budget movie. "I love Simon Kinberg. He’s such a visionary. We’re all so close. Anytime that you’re working on a project where everyone hangs out and they’re close, it’s a breeding ground for great content and a great experience. I think Simon is gonna kill it. He’s gonna do such a fantastic job with it. When I came on, he pitched me to be Psylocke, and I didn’t know him until I worked on that movie, but you see how everyone is friends and they hang out."
