X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, THE NEW MUTANTS, & GAMBIT Will Receive The IMAX Treatment

Unlike its predecessors, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, which both skipped out on IMAX, it sounds like X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be flying onto the the biggest screen imaginable come next November.

20th Century Fox and IMAX officially announced yesterday that they've extended their partnership through a new multi-picture agreement that encompasses five major films from Fox's upcoming slate. Those films are as follows: X-Men: Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants, Gambit, The Darkest Minds, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which opened this past September on the premium format. The new additions now join the previously announced Maze Runner: The Death Cure, The Predator, and Alita: Battle Angel.

While Deadpool and Logan both received the IMAX 2D treatment, Dark Phoenix will be the first time a main continuity X-Men film has been released on an IMAX screen, which suggests director Simon Kinberg might have something really special cooked up to showcase on the biggest screen imaginable.

Also, to address the elephant in the room, even with Disney potentially reaching an agreement with 21st Century Fox to acquire its film and tv assets before the end of the year, it's increasingly unlikely that the studio would scrap any of their upcoming productions as the deal wouldn't actually be completed until possibly several months into 2018, meaning production on Gambit, X-Force, and the rumored X-Men: Dark Phoenix - Part 2 will likely proceed as scheduled, although that's no guarantee.

New Mutants doesn't really seem to require the IMAX treatment.

There's nothing GRAND about the scale of that film and IMAX compliments films that are epic.
