(UPDATED) An Update on Cartoon Network's Young Justice

(UPDATED) An Update on Cartoon Network's Young Justice

Nolan North kisses pregnant Danica McKellar and I don't mean their respective characters, Superboy and Miss Martian. Lucky bastard. Plus an update on future cameos and when the show will return to the airwaves.

And as for when Young Justice will return? Here's what show creator, Greg Weisman [also creator of Gargoyles] has to say:

Good news and bad news today...

Here's the good news.

Coming out of Cartoon Network's upfronts last week (and Geoff John's comments on it since) there's been some confusion about what's happening on the Young Justice front.

What amuses me a bit is how CONFIDENT some posters on various message boards are about their interpretation of the reports. CONFIDENT and generally wrong.

So here's what's going on:

Young Justice has aired nine episodes of our 26-episode first season. The rest will begin airing after some weeks of reruns. The schedule is Cartoon Network's, and I'm not yet 100% clear on when we're back up and running. Though to be fair to CN, we don't have ANY other episodes in the can as of this moment. We're posting episodes 10 and 11 now.

(I saw some folks protesting why we didn't wait until ALL episodes were in the can before we began airing. All I can do is shrug. It's not up to me, but I do wonder how the fans who were furious that they had to wait until January 2011 for Season One would feel about THAT strategy.)

So the good news: We HAVE INDEED been picked up for a second season. As of now, all CN & WB have ordered is a ten episode mini-series, "YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION". We're HOPING for more than just ten eps, and I honestly think the odds are fairly good that the order will expand, but as of NOW, all we have is this ten episode order.

We immediately began work on this new season last week, and are breaking approximately (but not quite) one episode per day. The creative team is fundamentally the same as for Season One.

And though, of course, we will be introducing many new characters episodically in Season Two (just as we do episodically in Season One), I don't want to give the impression that this is some spin-off featuring, I dunno, the League or something, in the same Earth-16 setting. Invasion IS the second season of Young Justice and absolutely features our "Team". Episode 26 of Season One is time-stamped "December 31". Episode 1 of Season Two will be time-stamped "January 1", in essence picking up right where we left off.

We anticipate YJ:Invasion premiering in 2012... late first quarter, if I had to guess. Reports suggesting late 2011 are... beyond wishful thinking.

Hmmm... anything else? I feel like I'm forgetting something. But I can't think of any other misconceptions that need correcting right now.

Oh, well...

Still - Season Two. Not too shabby, huh?

UPDATE: CBMer @tazmaniak brought to my attention that their are more updates from creator Greg Weisman. Show him some love in the comments section!

Anyone in the mood for another YJ Update?

Cartoon Network has also released an update stating new Young Justice episodes are slated to air Fall 2011, beginning with the tenth episode "Target." {Which has already leaked online}

Young Justice is an American animated television series created by Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti for Cartoon Network. Despite its title, it is not an adaptation of Todd Dezago and Todd Nauck's Young Justice comic series, but rather an adaptation of the entire DC Universe with a focus on young superheroes. The series follows the lives of teenaged heroes and sidekicks who are members of a fictional covert operation team called Young Justice. The team is essentially a young counterpart to the celebrity-level famous adult team, the Justice League. The main setting is the fictional universe of Earth-16, during a time period in which superheroes are a relatively recent phenomenon. The series debuted on January 7, 2011 with a two week reairing of the first two episodes, which originally aired as an hour long special on November 26, 2010. Young Justice premiered on September 9, 2011 on Teletoon, in Canada.

Young Justice has been renewed for a second season entitled Young Justice: Invasion. It is set to premiere in the first quarter of 2012.

I have a mad crush on Winnie Cooper. :)
Spidey91 - 8/10/2011, 10:00 PM
so,bottom line, after just 10 episodes it will return in 2012?
Shellac - 8/10/2011, 10:07 PM
This is a quality show...hope it makes it.
MarkJulian - 8/10/2011, 10:08 PM
@Spidey91: Nope, Season 2, titled YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION will start in 2012. Season 1 has only aired 10 of 26 episodes which will resume at some point this year after reruns. Greg doesn't know exactly when.
TayDee - 8/10/2011, 10:17 PM
I forgot this show existed
tazmaniak - 8/10/2011, 10:18 PM
That update you posted from Greg at the end is pretty old.It mentions Cartoon Network's Upfront being the previous week. That was way back in March.

Here's a more recent update from 10 days ago.

They've aired episodes 1-9, completed episodes 10-18 and episodes 19-21 are in post production and should be finished soon.

And according to Cartoon Network, the series will return when the network's fall season starts.

That's generally the second or third week of September.Greg also said he thinks it will return sometime in September.

If you look at the schedule, you'll see episode 8, Downtime, is airing September 2nd.I'll assume episode 9 will air the following week, so maybe episode 10, Targets will air the week after that on the 16th.

We'll see.
Spidey91 - 8/10/2011, 10:21 PM
thanks,I didn't get it at first, good thing will return then
MarkJulian - 8/10/2011, 10:25 PM
@tazmaniak Thanks, I'll update. :)
RobinNumbah6 - 8/10/2011, 10:27 PM
is this gonna turn out like the Flash show from the 90's? where it was a really good show, they just didnt put enough out at a good pace so it got cancelled
OnePunchBaldy - 8/10/2011, 10:30 PM
Hopefully they hurry this up! I'm afraid of cancellation!
ScionStorm - 8/10/2011, 10:39 PM
Why would they start airing a season that was barely half completed being produced???(if Tazmaniak is accurate)

ScionStorm - 8/10/2011, 10:40 PM
I can understand why CN/WB might only pick up only 10 episodes for a second season.
MovieTheaterLad - 8/10/2011, 10:56 PM

That means more time for sexy Superboy!

MovieTheaterLad - 8/11/2011, 12:36 AM
Well then I guess we'll just have to settle this with a PILLOW FIIIIIIGHT~

MovieTheaterLad - 8/11/2011, 12:39 AM
But it's okay, because afterwards we can just kiss and make up <3

MaddMonkk - 8/11/2011, 1:01 AM
I liked this series but I gave up on it. Bring on Avengers season 2!
shaddowkhan - 8/11/2011, 1:48 AM
Aqua man is the black guy that got shot in the face from Pulp Fiction. wasn't expecting that
marvel72 - 8/11/2011, 4:29 AM

spiderneil - 8/11/2011, 5:20 AM

If there is an unfunny translation of that Hitler rant, I sure haven't seen it. That "Hello Megan" thing does wear out its welcome mighty quick!

I am glad to hear that we will finally be getting new episodes of Young Justice soon. It's freaking ridiculous having to wait so long for new ones. And what of those last few episodes of Brave and the Bold?

Spock - 8/11/2011, 6:55 AM
Well I was wondering when this was coming back on. Beginning to think it was going to end up like Wolverine & the X-Men series! Whewwwww dodged that BULLET.
AlSimmons - 8/11/2011, 7:02 AM
Avengers>Young Justice. Why? It put out 26 episodes in the normal season period while Young Justice can't even put out 11 in a year. By production alone Marvel trumps DC.
Shellac - 8/11/2011, 7:12 AM
"It put out 26 episodes in the normal season period while Young Justice can't even put out 11 in a year. By production alone Marvel trumps DC."

Actually, I beleive this has more to do with the Marvel/Disney relationship and not the quality of the product. Your logic is flawed, stop being a Marvel goon.
DCfan89 - 8/11/2011, 7:13 AM
I get so mad cuz the show is so good. Like what happened? Why did it start showing reruns of the first 9 episodes??
Action - 8/11/2011, 7:32 AM
I can't wait to see which characters from the dc universe make a cameo appearance. This show has to be the best animated superhero on television right now.
Action - 8/11/2011, 7:37 AM
No offense to avengers:EMH but the animation could be better and the show can be boring sometimes. Also wasp acts like a 12 year old and she can be very annoying.
plasticman - 8/11/2011, 9:16 AM
I really didn't think I would like this show at first but it has grown on me and I want more. Can anyone explain to me what the hold up was on the rest of season one being made?
Batman5 - 8/11/2011, 11:33 AM
love this show, cant wait for it to come back
Checkmate - 8/11/2011, 12:39 PM
I love this show, I just with they'd hurry the [frick] up.
Freshkicks1212 - 8/12/2011, 12:11 PM
@Action finally...yes yes somebody understands!!
Tomontherun99 - 8/13/2011, 3:02 PM
Has this been broadcast in the UK yet, looks pretty good and I heard Danny Trejo (AKA Machete) voices Bane so I'm sold
Alex2814 - 8/13/2011, 4:07 PM
Bring back Young Justice sooner rather than later!
Kitedot - 8/18/2011, 9:23 PM
Oh thank god, I thought this show got canned for some reason. Damn good show. I didnt love a toon like this since Justice league/unlimited.
Kitedot - 8/18/2011, 9:24 PM
I did not know that was Winnie from Wonder Years. Wow she aged well.
