We still haven't seen an official image of M.O.D.O.K. without his armoured helmet, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness has now shared a BTS look at his character design model.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania introduced M.O.D.O.K. to the MCU, and this take on the megalomaniacal Marvel Comics villain was either a highlight of the movie or one of the worst things about it, depending on who you ask.

The "Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing" is actually revealed to be Ant-Man 1 baddie Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll), who survived his battle with Scott Lang and was zapped into the Quantum Realm as a giant head with tiny limbs.

Kang (Jonathan Majors) discovered him, before kitting him out with Multiversal tech and making him his right-hand... head (find out more here).

M.O.D.O.K. is often portrayed as a ridiculous character, but this design has proven to be highly divisive (the slightly dodgy VFX didn't help). On the other hand, some feel that M.O.D.O.K.'s scenes worked very well, and that he was responsible for the funniest moments in the movie.

Aside from a very brief glimpse in the trailer and a few leaked shots (which we won't be sharing here), we've yet to see an official image of M.O.D.O.K. without his helmet, but writer Jeff Loveness has now taken to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes look at the character's visual effects model.

What did you guys make of this incarnation of M.O.D.O.K.? Drop us a comment down below.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.

They completely missed the mark with him in the movie. I think Stoll deserved better.

@UniqNo - agreed. they rushed his arc TOO fast

@TheRationalNerd - I would argue they made him more a joke than a character, which is a shame given they had the perfect opportunity to really sell the “abomination of human anatomy” angle. Unfortunately, Marvel is allergic to pathos. Everything has to be a joke.

@Kurban - I'm wondering what happens with A.I.M. now? Was looking forward to MODOK having some fun time with that. I guess he'll return in Secret Wars as a villain brought back. But I agree, the jokes were okay because everyone's reaction was pretty funny but then they kept hammering it and them the whole "I won't be a dick" thing just fell flat.

@TheRationalNerd - Nothing, I guess. A.I.M. is relegated to the bin of villains Marvel only uses in one film and then never touch again. And hell, they weren’t even really the villain in Iron Man 3 so much as the Extremis soldiers.

I think If they had made him more menacing it might have worked 😅

only issue I had was they should have given him a helmet. I get why he's bald, but him being bald didn't quite work. The rest of him looks perfect IMO.

To me that character model looks so much better then what we got in the movie. 🤷‍♂️

Loved this weirdo. Wouldn't have changed a thing. He's an incredibly odd character both in terms of looks and personality. Would have been a mistake to shy away from that in my mind. Had to go all out ridiculous and glad they did.

@Itwasme - not really. Modok is supposed to be grotesque, not funny

@Razorface1 - MODOK has always been goofy.

@Itwasme - you're right. No way he should be taken seriously on film.

@Razorface1 - MODOK is and always has been a joke. Anyone who actually takes him seriously needs to leave the basement. Anytime they try and make him a serious villain feels forced. He’s trash in the comics, a joke in the Avengers game, and he’s appropriately stupid here.

@Itwasme - he was adequately bizarre and actually continued to be menacing. I give them props on the death, it was funny and tragic and honestly is about the best we can do with a rather hard to adapt character like him

Is it just me or is a grown man writing "I love this movie so much!" extremely cringy? Or is me thinking that cringy? Is using the word cringy cringy?
Mrtoke
Mrtoke - 2/20/2023, 2:03 PM
@WarMonkey - I I don’t think it’s cringey cause he worked on the movie so for him to see his work on film, I could understand that

I think the problem is that they didn't make him strange ENOUGH looking. It was just Corey Stoll's giant, badly CGId head. They should have put a bit more effort in to the design. The character himself was... okay. I thought the Avengers thing was funny.

@RorMachine - see, I liked the movie, and did laugh at the Avenger line, but it was definitely a joke for jokes sake because he wouldn't know Scott became an Avenger...

Now that the weekend is over and don't have to worry about spoilers, all I could think is: Really? Is Corey Stoll that busy that MODOK can't stick around and had to be killed off right away? Should've been a recurring villain, IMO.
