Anyone else think that experimenting with fire and propellants while wearing a long-sleeved jacket in an enclosed garage with a parked car next to you is kind of stupid?
Don't get me wrong, the device is cool as hell. But where's the common sense factor?

Those are dang cool. I remember trying to make a flame thrower out of a supersoaker. Not good. Just ended up as a pile of plastic slag that was cool looking while it was burning. I wonder if the government has seen this and are engineering hand held close combat flamethrowers? Hmmmm.
Tobuttica
-
10/5/2009, 9:15 PM
@Tobuttica: I doubt it pal. Although the military flamethrower was effectively employed by US troops during the World Wars, the Korean conflict and Vietnam; it was voluntarily removed from the US defense arsenal in 1978.

@thwhtknight - I'll tell you what's going to happen. Some kid or whackjob is going to use this stupid sh*t in a school because they're "misunderstood". Thee is NO REASON why a rational inventor would post a video of this kind of weapon on Youtube except for instant recognition. for those of you jackasses that say "but it's not a weapon!" answer me this: What in the holy hell would you use it for? To light a Fourth of July barbecue? It's one thing to ingeniously create a potentially harmful tool for personal or financial gratification, and another to show it to millions of people where I'd say a good 10% are going to try to copy it.

This is what genius super heroes are before they go full fledged. Now he needs to have the mafia kill his entire family and get severely injured by acid. Then he puts on a mask and goes to avenge his family by taking out the mob. after that he realized he could either do some real good, or real bad. hehe.

Useless. Seriously apart from the fireworks what good is this device? I guess it's good for pyro magician tricks because why else would you want the flame so close to your body? If the lines rupture it's not like you can just throw the thing away, it's attached to your arm. Never mind attempting to rip off the device with the other burning shooter in your free hand. I don't see how you other posters can drool over what amounts to a special effects device. It's not like his skin cells are firing heat blasts. BTW these things are called flameslingers and others have been made, although with a less compact design than this.
seismicblast
-
10/6/2009, 5:23 PM
@ Seismicblast, it may be useless but still got to admit a good gadget when you see one. If the flame could go even farther it would be better, but the compact design looks really well thought out...very cool. Stop being a hater! Let's see you wow all these people like this guy has.

I'm surprised at how many little girls there are on CBM. That is a cool special effects toy and he looks to handle it quite well, nowhere does it say that he is going door to door trick or treating with it, or selling them, and at no point in the vid does it look like he is about to catch his shirt on fire, yet all you little girls are crying about it. This guy is no different than Damien Walters or the other folks trying cool and potentially dangerous things that make CBMs awesome and not just a bunch of green screen bullshit.
Notice the qualification at the end of the video, and that the original video was not posted to youtube by the actual builder.

Holy S***! That is awesome!
SuperFlyinPwrs

@Harrison: A few points for you to consider. . .
1) If some of us disapprove of the distribution of this video, why does it make us 'little girls'? I don;t remember us saying "The guy who posted this on CBM is a pyro nut job wannabe that needs therapy". We are not insulting you, so try not to insult us. It makes you a look like a tool.
2) If you don't see the potential harm placing these videos on a site like YouTube, you need to educate yourself.
Where do you think most people get the ideas for school shootings, homemade bombs and chemical weapons? Have you ever heard of the Anarchist's Cookbook?
The majority of improvised explosive devices are created by everyday people with access to the internet.
We're not condemning the creation of this sort of device at all, we are against the easy access that everyone has to it. It's not like he just posted a video of him playing with his new toy from a distance. He provides a DETAILED schematic of how he created it! What. . you didn't see that video yet? It's right there on YouTube.
There has to be an equal balance between KNOWLEDGE and RESPONSIBILITY. Don't bestow dangerous knowledge unto someone, unless they are responsible enough to regulate it's usage.
Don't you think I would get in hot water with the military if I started showing people how to create a silencer for a handgun, hot wire a vehicle or build a defensive fighting position? These are all skills I learned throughout my years of training, just like this inventor has learned through his. It would be stupid of me to make a video showcasing those skill sets without worrying about the you could be watching it.
As for your guess that he did not post the video himself, where is your proof? By the statement he makes at the end of the video, it SURE looks like he posted it for all to see and admire. If not, why the disclaimer? If he didn't want others to see it, I'm pretty sure he would have flagged the videos by now, don't you think? With all of the qualifications this inventor has under is belt, one would think he would be more responsible than to allow his videos to be viewed by everyone.
3) By Damien Walters, do you mean the stuntman that posts videos of his street jumping and gymnastics stunts? How can you compare the potential harm a compact flamethrower has to. . . gymnastics?
Maybe you'll be so kind as to answer my questions.
**P.S. Don't think I have a hard on for this guy alone, it's all of the idiots on the web that decide to brandish knowledge on how to properly slit a throat, create mortar tubes, etc. Unless you've been face to face with a homemade weapon, you might not understand why I feel this way. YouTube is one of the most under-regulated sites on the internet, and that is just unacceptable.

1)Little girls was the first thing that came to mind, I have a low opinion of any adult that cries for censorship "for the children" whenever they see something they disagree with, and it was the least offensive insult I could come up with at the time.
2)Where are you getting your information from? The internet is where school shooters get their info? I thought is was Grand Theft Auto and MTV?
It is perfectly legal to build a silencer with the proper $300 NFA Tax Stamp. You're missing an excellent business opportunity if you say you know how to build them from scratch. Then again all the folks that actually pay attention to the actual law have already taken advantage, so I guess you wouldn't make all that much.
The comment about him not posting the vid is true, the one posted in the article was not loaded under his account, hence the little ".com' in the corner. I really just wrote that because it didn't have the disclaimer and the other vid from his account did, but I later saw that he did not put the disclaimer about his qualifications on all of his vids.
3)How is Damien Walters posting vids of himself jumping off roof tops or doing hand stands on the edges of freeway overpasses any less dangerous than this guy posting his inventions? I can think of just as many "what ifs" for Walters as you can for this guy, just try me.
Satanors- I didn't say you were a little girl, I said that people who can't appreciate the video were, if you think the video is bad and that we need to "think about the children" well...

man, harrison you gotta chill on the anti-authority thing man, multi others expressed valid opinions and if you don't agree engage them in an inteligent manner.there's never a need for base attacks, all it does is invalidate your point of view. And by not conceding that there is a small amount of danger in posting such videos you only lend credence to those who oppose your view point.
We all understand your view is different, but there are ways of discussing it that don't involve anger and annoyance.

@THWHTKNIGHT-
To me, it didn't seem like HARRISON came off angry at all!! If anything MULTI'S response to him was tinged with more anger than anything HARRISON said.
Were your feelings really that hurt because he called you "a little girl"? Really? C'mon. That's about as soft as internet insults get.
HARRISON-
While I may not completely agree with everything you've said, I wholeheartedly agree with the way you presented your argument. Good show, sir.
