If you want to sound pretentious, always quote the Bible.

One thing is for certain. Many people on this site like to mock Christianity. Please spare me the "religion is the cause of most wars" and other cliched barbs. Good night.

I like to mock Islam

@Liverpool - probably cuz they live in countries where Christianity is the dominant religion. and organized religions set themselves up for mocking. they're pretty much the definition of "mockable".

so that makes sense to me. you're gonna get mocked more when you're the biggest mockable thing in the room. right? i'd more focus criticism on taking cheap shots that deliberately misinterpret what a religion is actually saying, i do this a lot of times, but i do it cheaply. as in obviously not going far into it, it's more mocking a cultural understanding of a religion or certain extremists who pretend that fundamentalism makes any sense.

and even on this level, it really is the religions own fault for being so goofy.
dethpillow - 3/29/2014, 5:36 PM
@Liverpool, here's the joke, just for the sake of deconstruction...

Bible verses are often quoted, as things that mean a lot, things that are the word of god, things that we should live by. important things. and it's presented in such a way as... well this comes from the Bible. see. so it's important, and i don't have to even explain it, it's coming from the Bible, so the thing i'm telling you to do has more validity than before i said this Bible thing. i mean that happens a lot.

so when you take a quote from the Bible that is silly, and there's plenty of silly quotes from the Bible, you're not really mocking the religion, you're mocking people who act like this somehow supports their argument. for whatever thing they're trying to say otherwise. cuz in real life, Bible quotes usually aren't just tossed out there on their own. they are used to add weight to some other thing that someone is arguing for.

So that is what is being mocked, the religion itself is not being mocked cuz the religion itself is something that non-believers, by definition, don't even have access to. there's mockable things about certain universal concepts that different religions embody tho. that's mockable also, but the kind of stuff you're seeing above is not really mocking Christianity or Judaism or Islam or any sect. even what The Heat is saying... I would hope that everyone knows that ALL organized religions are the handiwork of murderous homophobic pedophiles, just some of them stupider and more bold and careless in hiding it than others, i guess.

but it's really not mocking the religions.
