RUMOR: 20th Century Fox's Reboot Of DAREDEVIL Looking For A New Writer

Word has it that the script for the planned reboot of Daredevil is such a mess, the studio are now on the hunt for a new writer! Hit the jump for a few more details on The Man Without Fear's troubled journey back to the big screen.

When asked recently for an update on Daredevil, director David Slade took to his Twitter account to reveal that he is currently focusing on other projects and that, "We all want to make it but its going slow, & details are too boring to print." Well, according to Latino Review's ever reliable @elmayimbe, one of those "boring" details may just include some serious issues with Brad Caleb Kane's script.

However, there's really no need to panic just yet. While work may have slowed down for the time being, the fact that they're looking for a new writer (rather than just moving ahead with a bad script) is a good sign. Last year, X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes served as two very clear indications that 20th Century Fox are making good on their promise to improve the quality of their blockbusters. Daredevil may still be a few more years away, but a high-quality adaptation is sure to be worth the wait.

If true, at least they are looking for a new writer. First get a good script, then start filming.
MarkJulian - 4/26/2012, 12:19 PM
The guy writing it said, " I wonder what The Wire would be like with a superhero." Sounded good to me. Wonder where he went wrong.
TheMyth - 4/26/2012, 12:25 PM
Fox, there is nothing good you can do with this character. Please give him back to Marvel where they will do it justice.

PS. same for the FF please.
PsyBoy - 4/26/2012, 12:27 PM
Ehhh not too excited for this.
StrangerX - 4/26/2012, 12:28 PM

RunDTC - 4/26/2012, 12:29 PM
Dear Fox,

Hire me.

Sincerely,
RunDTC

FOX & SONY would be better of cutting a deal with Marvel where they give them creative control while SOX & FONY just handle distribution.

Allowing Marvel to nuture their characters and allow them to crossover with each others films will prolong the life of the franchises which would be beneficial to all studios.
Ha1frican - 4/26/2012, 12:30 PM
revert revert revert revert...
kevberg - 4/26/2012, 12:32 PM
GIve it back to Marvel and that'll fix most the problems.
jazzman - 4/26/2012, 12:35 PM
if FOX dont know what to do with the character they should just give it up and let marvel have him back
INSTANTJUSTICE - 4/26/2012, 12:40 PM
They'll never just give rights back unless their films are unmitigated disasters and they've been run into the ground.

Marvel will either have to offer them way over the odds or do a 50/50 type deal.
P862010 - 4/26/2012, 12:40 PM
this is great news the old fox just would of went through with the mess of a script
ClarkFarley2012 - 4/26/2012, 12:46 PM
FOX stop playing and give DD back to Marvel.
superotherside - 4/26/2012, 12:47 PM
I hope they take a looooooooooooooooooooong time so the rights can revert to Marvel Studios.
ThaMessenger07 - 4/26/2012, 12:57 PM
Let me write it...oh wait...I did...
ClaireLannister2016 - 4/26/2012, 12:57 PM
Someday DD will go back to Marvel Studios
P862010 - 4/26/2012, 1:00 PM
marvel would'nt make DD dark and edgy like it should be all marvel films have same tone
OdinsBeard - 4/26/2012, 1:00 PM
get Sorkin to write it. don't forget he's a lawyer
jazzman - 4/26/2012, 1:21 PM
@Marvel87

how is it going bro, when are u going to watch The Avengers?

im hopfully going this saturday i just cant wait
AutobotCommander84 - 4/26/2012, 1:29 PM
When the [frick] will people realize that it DOESN'T matter what studio makes the film, just what people are hired for it. Fox could hire Chris Nolan to direct Daredevil while Marvel could hire Uwe Boll. It just depends on who is hired and if their vision is consistent with the character.
OnLeatherWings - 4/26/2012, 1:33 PM
Am I surprised??? Nope. Exactly what I expect from fox
neonhero - 4/26/2012, 1:34 PM
I don't care that Fox has the rights. Obviously Marvel would take more care with their own characters, but they would still put out about the same number of movies each year, so this way we get more comic book movies. Plus, First Class rocked, so with the right creative team I don't think a non-Marvel DD movie is a definite fail. Thought, honestly, I'd rather se a DD TV series. He's a character with so many interesting contradictions, and a lawyer to boot. His story just screams for a serialized action-drama.
PaulRom - 4/26/2012, 1:40 PM
I'd prefer if the rights go back to Marvel, but I'm glad that Fox is (apparently) working hard to make the script good.
GrayFox1025 - 4/26/2012, 1:42 PM
You would think that with all of the success of latest Marvel movies that Fox would want Marvel involved.

Of course that would make too much sense, after all, this is Fox we are talking about.
Equivocal - 4/26/2012, 1:44 PM
DD back to MARVEL

ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

jazzman - 4/26/2012, 1:47 PM
@Marvel87

Oh f**k yeah it will be epic.

Leftcoastpunk - 4/26/2012, 1:48 PM
@P862010 - you know you may have a point. I think someone outside of disney may give it a bit more grit, something with a hard pg-13 or R rating.
BigHec - 4/26/2012, 2:02 PM
anything Fox touches turns to shit...not surprised..
Pheezmatic - 4/26/2012, 2:05 PM
i think we all need to colab on an open letter to SONY and FOX and plead with them to make a deal to release the rights to the marvel properties...maybe if they realize that we DONT want to see their version of these characters, and hence make no money, then theyll just take a check and say peace.
DanteSparda - 4/26/2012, 2:10 PM
Nothing about Daredevil is more tragic than his movies management
BigHec - 4/26/2012, 2:22 PM
Dumbest Things Fox has done to Marvel
5.) Ben Affleck as DareDevil
4.) The X men storyline ( Professor X walking in the end of Wolverine, Emma Frost Younger in Wolverine and Older and has nothing to do with Silver Fox in First Class, Beast turns Blue in First Class but in X Men 2 he has no fur and then in 3 he's back to blue, etc.)
3.) The way they shitted on Dr.Doom's character
2.) Im The Juggernaunt Bitch! (SMH)
1.) The Complete and Utter Ruin of Deadpool as Weapon XI
Natetrix79 - 4/26/2012, 2:48 PM
This needs to be DARK!!! Not something for the kiddies, with realistic & brutal fighting, some rooftop pakour, a ruthless & believable Kingpin,, & someone with the acting chops to show the pain that Daredevil is willing to go through physically, emotionally, & mentally.
marvel72 - 4/26/2012, 3:10 PM
give it back to marvel studio's at least you'll know it's in safe hands.
Minghagz - 4/26/2012, 4:20 PM
MARVEL > FOX

Fox =

fail

Marvel =

winning!

Just give the rights back to Marvel and let them take it from here ;)
headlopper - 4/26/2012, 4:22 PM
So they need a writer for DD.

Then hire a writer for DD stupid.

Ed Brubaker
Bartman87 - 4/26/2012, 6:26 PM
Marvel does not need the rights to Daredevil because they would make it in the same vein as the rest of the Marvel properties and DD needs to be darker and grittier which I don't think the Marvel is willing to do with their property and wouldn't put DD on the top of a to do movie list. They would continue to put out the same number of movies and we wouldn't have the additional properties out, while I agree that Fantastic Four would work well in MCU Daredevil just won't work.
Pheezmatic - 4/26/2012, 8:19 PM
Yes i agree, if Marvel had DD they would stay ALOT truer to the grittier material than FOX would. They probably wouldnt even put it under the same "Marvel" title banner like they do the avengers franchise. They would probably do the same thing they did with punisher and put it under the "Marvel Knights" banner..and u must admit, Punisher was no pg-13 kiddie movie.
Watcher - 4/26/2012, 8:47 PM
LOL so it was whack huh?? Well that didn't stop them the LAST TIME!

The script for the last one was totally whack too.
BattlinMurdock - 4/27/2012, 7:58 AM
If it goes to Marvel, it'll still grab a PG-13. It depends what kind of Daredevil they go for. Miller's run MIGHT grab an R, but Lee, Bendis, and Waid's runs all rest safely in the PG-13 stratosphere. DD's a lot like Batman. You COULD throw a lot of language, bloody graphic violence, and sex into a Daredevil movie and claim it's more "adult" or "real," but it isn't necessary.

People who claim to want rated "R" films have an expectation of "This is what I'm allowed to see," which isn't right. PG-13 is pretty lax about a lot of stuff. Don't debase a film because of its rating. There are plenty of films who surpass the expectations of merely what the MPAA allows them.
Bartman87 - 4/27/2012, 5:02 PM
Doubt if Marvel would do the R movie because they would likely want to add DD in the rest of the MCU, while I don't think that Disney controls every aspect I do think that Marvel wants to keep all their characters available, and while PG13 is still doable like Batman the tone would be different than the rest of the MCU movies and how would it fit in with remainder of the movies.
Natetrix79 - 4/29/2012, 3:02 PM
But Daredevil is not like Batman, most of his fights end with him bloody, beaten, & bruised. And I haven't read alot of his stories but didn't his ex girl get H.I.V. & pass away? I can't remember, but that would make a pretty emotional movie & a good damn story. Something very different from the norm.
