What Would It Take?

So I'm going to start off by saying that I am the biggest Batman fan on the planet...k probably not but I seriously love the guy!!!

He's the reason I have 2 black belts and he's the reason I'm halfway through a degree in Criminology.

So I was thinking why don't I just become a superhero??

I'm a blackbelt in Shotokan Karate and a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I've also been doing Muay Thai and Boxing for 10 years.

Obviously I'm well trained in the martial arts and could take anyone down. But what else would it take? What kind of equipment or gadgets would I need?

I'm big on the whole "You only live once" thing. Does anyone think this is a good idea?

There are so many problems with trying to do this for real it is hard to know where to begin.

Oddly though there are a number of people who have been on the streets in uniform. A few have even stopped some crime. Most of them are more helpful than anything else.

I would say the biggest problem with being a real life SuperHero is that you would become a criminal. One that the actual forces of law and order would likely hunt very seriously. In the comics the Heros always manage to do such big things that the police play along. Somehow I doubt that would happen in real life.

It is interesting though. Thinking about it shows you how far from Reality the Comics really are. In them so often the danger drops right in their laps. The amount of sheer luck anybody who puts on a costume gains is beyond belief. Sadly I have worn a few SuperHero uniforms in my day and I never noticed the extra power of Luck that is supposed to go with them.

Just remember that there are guns out there man. The REAL reality is that there are people with guns who are itching to pull the trigger at anyone who [frick]s with them. Don't be stupid.

Yea seriously though.. dont break any laws and be safe. Like Darqueone said these "superheroes" are just good Samaritans that like dress up.

I dont think anyone can truly end up being a mysterious figure, prowling the roof tops, striking fear into the criminal underworld. If they did then yes they would be a criminal themselves and they would need lots of money.

"How'come no one's ever been a superhero?"

I don't know. Maybe because it's f'in impossible."

"Puting on a mask and helping people. How's that impossible?"

I say do it man. If that's what you feel like your role in life is, then I say do it!

Im going to say that people have tried and many of them wind up like Kickass at the beginning of the movie. Ass whooping or worse and we don't hear about it because its just some crazy guy dressed up in a costume, found face down in an ally. I will also say that odds are, somewhere in the world, theres a real vigilante that no one ever hears about. We just get another "missing persons" poster. A real “hero” wouldnt go on tv or write about what he does on facebook because he dosnt do it for fame, its for the PERSONAL satisfaction. And I agree, the hardest thing would be finding the crime. Only in the comics do you find it by crouching over the corner of building in the rain.

@Paulley: that guy says "ya know" too much lol but he has awesome weapons

This is a really bad idea unless you are bulletproof. If I take My 12 gauge Assault Shotgun and shoot you in the head...... even with a ballistic helmet it will quite possibly break your neck or cause a subdural hematoma with its 1200 foot pounds per sqaure inch. That could kill you or leave you eatin' through a tube in you gut for the rest of your life. Martial arts are fine, but they won't stop a bullet.
TheDarqueOne - 11/1/2010, 5:44 PM
Now that all the reasonable replies have been posted...

If you had the money, a partner or support team, and the guts there is a lot that could potentially be done. It is not impossible but the desire to do it has never hit someone with the resources.

"Obviously I'm well trained in the martial arts and could take anyone down."

Dude, I applaud your confidence, but just because you know martial arts, which definitely does give you an upper hand with most people, doesn't mean you still can't get the shit kicked out of you, or worse, killed. I've personally bested a few people who claimed to know martial arts in fist fights. Knowledge doesn't always equal proper execution. Knowing your forms and kata won't always translate into a street fight. In the ring, there are rules. On the streets, not so much. That being said, it's a nice fantasy, but stick to reading your comics and let the law enforcement be handled by the professionals.

Like everything in life if you have got the talent, the resources, and a support team behind you, you can do anything
