Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the perfect Lobo… In the flesh!!!

After the announcement of Guy Richie helming the oh so long awaited feature film of DC Entertainment’s “Main Man”, Jeffrey Dean Morgan decided to throw his name in the hat! Well I took it upon myself to prove to you all why he is THAT perfect to portray the scourge of the cosmos!!!

LEEE777 so graciously provided us fan boys a poll to bite uh… I mean vote on who we’d prefer as The Master Fragger! Kevin Durand got the popular vote since he has brilliantly portrayed many bad asses in his passed performances. Although I do agree that he is an outstanding supporting actor, he definitely lacks the charisma needed to make Lobo’s franchise soar instead of thudding in the ditch right next to Punisher’s last attempt.

Unlike Rambo and Conan, Lobo doesn’t have a big enough action star attached to the character that already made him popular enough to green card any script. He is very much so like Marvel’s Punisher… with a dash of Wolverine and a lick of Gene Simmons. Even with great actors and a very decent script, the 2004 Punisher feature hardly pulled enough dough at the box office to be remembered outside of the character’s comic book fan base. And after what could be considered three unsuccessful films, I think we have a tried, tested and true blueprint of what NOT to do with Lobo.

Keith Giffen, the character’s own creator, has gone on record as to say that he would prefer an unknown actor to portray the biker from hell’s outhouse since he feels that a bigger star would bring to much “baggage” on set and would overshadow the character. Very much like Nick Cage’s Ghost Rider, yet another great blueprint of a failure. But the only way an unknown actor could ever become a star with a concept such as Lobo’s, is by having thought of an almost better script than Star Wars itself. And let’s face it, Lobo’s never been the sharpest tool in the shed. He’s as smart and as subtle as a 50lbs sledgehammer. I mean don’t get me wrong, he is a cunning tracker and marksman and of course “the best at what he does” which is contract killing, but as he enjoys going out with a bang, he comes in with an even bigger one! That kinda sorta puts him waaayyyyy out of reach of Steven King’s or Dan Brown’s good graces.

I think that for a script worthy of Lobo’s concept and to make sure this great character doesn’t suffer the same fate as many others before him, they will need the perfect actor/character portrayal. That combination could launch the franchise into everyone’s most anticipated box office sequel list and favorite DVD collection. And if most of you think that all there is to the fraggin’ bastich is ruthless aggression, heavy metal and horse power, you missed out on just about half of the whole character. I urge you to go back and read your own copies of his comics and be honest with yourselves. Would a decent supporting actor, an unknown or even a football player/wrestler be enough to render “The Main Man” any justice at all??? I think… NOT!!! Despite Lobo’s brute exterior, he is endowed with quite the incomparable charm and requires an actor with the same amount at the very least. He’s all about sinister grins, shocking facial expressions and intimidation. He needs a deep voice and the utmost commanding presence to ever take life on the big screen. All these aspects are crucial to make us Lobo fans proud to be sitting in the theater especially since it will have a PG-13 rating. Hopefully lime green, orange sorbet and magenta alien blood doesn’t count.

In short, there is only one actor that fit’s the boots! He proved it in Watchmen as “the Comedian”, which in reality is pretty much a diluted form of Lobo, and has always been a brilliant commanding and experienced hunter in “Supernatural”. Not only is he the most qualified for the role, HE FRAGGIN’ WANTS IT!!! He publically admitted it in an interview with SuperHeroHype! This is and will be this year’s greatest news unless Jensen Ackles publically states that he wants to be The First Avenger: Captain America!!! Man, if those two actors could get their hands on those highly anticipated roles, it would be the biggest fanboygasm ever in CBM history!!! Well… mine at least. Cm'on Guy, "hook" a bastich up, will ya?

So here it finally is, after putting my own sweat and blood into it all week long, for anyone whose wondering just how good he would actually look as our favorite fragger, here’s my sketch of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Lobo!!!

The "Shaman"... is pooped!!!

How you draw so well on demand is beyond me.

BTW, did you change your avatar?
SabretoothTiger - 9/18/2009, 10:32 PM
Man that's sick shaman he does look a lot like him you might have swayed to thinkin he could do the role I just think kevin durand has that craziness about him that's perfect for lobo good job though
TheUnknown - 9/18/2009, 10:32 PM
He does seem like the one to bring the character to life.
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 9/19/2009, 6:26 AM
Great article Shaman! You are my new god! Only not in a sacrilegious way!

Great sketch too but (and this is only constructive criticism from a fellow artiste) the hair looks a little too smooth and silky.
AshleyWilliams - 9/19/2009, 7:14 AM
Great casting/sketch!
flames809 - 9/19/2009, 8:17 AM
kool u beat ur cable drawing
Shaman - 9/19/2009, 10:04 AM
supermarioworldE- Well, this one was actually very very hard to do. It is the first time that a sketch took me 4 days to draw. In fact it took so much out of me that i might be a little while without putting up another sketch. I really REALLY hate smudging so any smudging that appears on my sketch is just from my hand having to erase and whipe so oftenly. My next one will definitely be Charlize Theron as Domino but there's no telling when i'll regain what it takes to draw that suckah! And yes i did change my avatar for my all time favorite animated series "The Batman" ;)

SabretoothTiger- HA HA HA!!! You kill me, guy :P I hoped but never truly thought that my sketch would actually sway Durand fans to switch! Cause i know how much you guys love Kevin and honest to god, i wouldn't bitch if he landed the role at all. This article was just my best attempt at selling JDM to the masses. I wasn't expecting this :))

TheUnknown- Thanks and from the moment someone mentionned his name in LEEE777's poll, i litteraly saw him bringing that character to life in my head! It was as if beholding EXCALIBUUUUUUURRRRR!!! :))

Howlett04- HAW HAW, new god :P I like the sacriligious way ;P And i knew "someone" would mention his hair LOL Realistically speaking, i didn't want the 80ies rockstar hair, i felt that the grungy dirty greasy hair would fit better on screen especially for a contract killing biker. I based it somewhat off one of my favorite Lobo comic apparitions:

NightAvenger4- Thanks buddy :))

flames809- You really think so??? I dunno... i feel like i'm still a long way from actually beating it. I guess it depends on personal tastes ;)

Thanks Ozy, and it's okay if you only think that he's okay LOL I'm not here to twist anybody's arm or anythin' LOLOL :P
LEEE777 - 9/19/2009, 12:10 PM
Hey cool @ SHAMAN!!! Wicked drawing dude! ; )

Yeah my first picks still DURAND but JDM is still a close second man, i hope either gets the role really!!!

Don't want STATHAM or something lol.

Hey cheers for the mention bro! Heh heh. ; )

Im glad you lost interest in ROURKE in the role, all id see is the WRESTLER in make up lol, damn he's the perfect MARV though!!

Again damn fine drawing @ SHAMAN, fingers crossed dude!

Coming from me thats good as LOBO my 2nd fav DC character, BRADLEY COOPER, um er i mean GUY GARDNER being my fav DC charcter of all time (Yeah i know lol), anyways , Great drawing again man, look forward to seeing more!!!
LEEE777 - 9/19/2009, 12:13 PM
SHAMAN @ Glad you put this in EDITORIALS! If ya stuck it in FAN FIC it would've been gone in a day lol!

Nice call! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/19/2009, 1:04 PM
Damn, i thought i put a thumbs up, soz lol, do it now! ; )
BubastisTheLynx - 9/19/2009, 1:59 PM
Great article, and awesome drawing shaman, well worth the wait.
flames809 - 9/19/2009, 2:44 PM
shaman- well if u think u didn't beat ur cable sketch then ok and dude that batman icon u got there is my favorite batman i wish they made a 6 season of it
Shaman - 9/19/2009, 4:53 PM
LEEE777- Thanks buddy ;) And well if JDM didn't exist, Rourke would have been my second choice. I like Durand too but he doesn't give off the "experienced" bounty hunter vibe like a 40 year old merc, ya know? Durand would be the best choice for his younger years but Lobo has always looked like a late 30ies biker, not late 20ies. I'm also on board with ya, if Guy Gardner gets his shot, i want Brad Cooper for it! And i wanted to put it in editorials for two reasons: 1- Worked to hard on this bitch to get bumped down in a day LOL 2- I actually wanted to write a full editorial with it so i guess it fits perfectly here ;)

Ozy- Always a pleasure to inspire and if you have any talent at all, you HAVE to flaunt it up here for us all to enjoy!!! :))

Well thank you very much bubastis237, i'm glad you like it ;)

Flames- IMO, it's one of the best animated series ever made, let alone Batman's very best!!! And i'm kinda pissed they decided NOT to continue the series with their established Justice League. It looked a hell of a lot better than the last JLU series even though i enjoyed that one too. I bought all 5 seasons and i recommend it to anyone!!! Wish they made a video game out of it...
LEEE777 - 9/19/2009, 5:10 PM
SHAMAN @ Cool bud, heck you like COOPER too, Kudos! Always good to have you on side heh heh!

Im kinda glad JDM is interested, means we will get the best LOBO, instead STATHAM or VINNIE JONES or something LOBO, man, i just cringed lol.

Hope your looking forward to THE LOSERS movie, im sure you know JDM is in it, i cant wait, damn a year lol!

I aint got them 5 seasons yet, when i see 'em i'll deff pick them up! I wonder why some stuff dont get to go on BLU-RAY??

Anyway dude, KUDOS! An remember COOPER for GARDNER! Don't get too drunk!!! ; D
LEEE777 - 9/19/2009, 5:11 PM
Like ya new AVATAR by the way dude!!!
DDD - 9/19/2009, 6:42 PM
Fantastic job Shaman@, I love it! I voted for Kevin in the poll but JDM is one of my favorite actors and he would be great as greazy Ol' Lobo!

Thanx so much for all your drawings, you capture the actors in the rolls so well, it's creepy! :D And awesome avatar!

I can hardly wait for the Domino/Charlize rendering! But you deserve a well needed rest from all your excellent artwork, for now! Thanx so much for sharing your unique talents with all of us Jamokes on here! I fer one REALLY appreciate it!!!
DDD - 9/19/2009, 6:44 PM
By the way, Durand is 35 so he's not exactly a spring chicken! :D
flames809 - 9/19/2009, 10:44 PM
shamn- yea the show was getting interesting with robin, batgirl, and the justice league and how much does it cost on dvd all 5 season and yea they should of made a game from how it began to how the cartoon ended and when he faced Dracula that's my favorite movie of that cartoon
supermarioworldE - 9/19/2009, 11:33 PM
The batman was a cool show.
Shaman- hope you get your drawing spirit back soon, can't wait for another one of your cool drawings!
Shaman - 9/20/2009, 10:51 AM
LEEE- I normally don't like Guy Gardner but i think Cooper has what it takes to make him very enjoyable! As soon as you see those seasons, pick'em right up cause they could get discontinued like The Thundercats series that i never had a chance to pick up. That really pissed me off btw. As for "The Losers", never read the comics and i don't know what it's about. I probably won't go to see it but if i hear great things about it, i'll pick up the DVD ;)

DDD- Thanks dude!!! And just readin your words about "greazy ol' Lobo"... gives me joygasm shivers :)) I really hope it gets made right! I think Richie can pull it off too. Specially if he gets JDM for it ;) I really love doing CBM casting portaits! I still can't believe i seem to be the first one to do it! I guess average portrait artists aren't that crazy about CBMs in the first place or simply drawing a costume that isn't on the picture. Well, it just drives me to do even more! And good point about Durand's age but... he doesn't give off his age. He looks very much young at heart and physically looks like he's in his late 20ies. Not exactly what i'd prefer for Lobo but he's definitely my third choice.

Flames- YEP!!! Got the "The Batman vs. Dracula" movie as well!!! I love it to death... or should i say undeath LOL :P Each season cost about 25$ regular price. I was fortunate enough to find the first one for 13$ and 2-4 for 10$. They were out of the 5th. Well i got tiered of waiting for them to order more or for the next sale to come up somewhere else. Fearing that it would be soon discontinued, i bought the 5th for 25$. Still well worth it.

supermarioworldE & all of you- I've got a few projects in line before i can bring you guys Domino but mark my words, this is by no means my last sketch. I love drawing them and reading all you guys's comments so i will be back ;) Just not this week LOL :P
THEHAWK - 9/20/2009, 9:31 PM
Hey man! I didn't know you finished this, no ever tells me anything anymore :(

Any way top notch as usual, not your best, but still fraggin awesome. My favorite is till Cable, for personal reasons...

I can't wait to see the sketch of my Domino pick!

HAWK out.
Shaman - 9/21/2009, 6:52 AM
LOL Yeah apparently the editorial section has become what the fan fic section once was. The Phantom Zone or somethin' LOL :P Thanks and i'll have to agree with ya just not on personal reasons LOL :P

An html tryout ;)

jallanr - 9/21/2009, 12:54 PM
another exceptional job, shaman. love it (though durand still my choice, lol) i give u two woo hoos!

woo hoo! woo hoo!
Shaman - 9/22/2009, 8:06 AM
LOL, Love the woohoo's LOL :P
LEEE777 - 9/22/2009, 5:18 PM
SHAMAN @ You've changed again lol!

Hey you gotta support LOSERS dude, its gonna be massive!!

Yeah, the way i see it, COOPERS an ASSHOLE just like GUY lol! An he looks friggin' so alike its scary! ; D

Kudos on the PIC again dude! ; )

HAWK @ lol!
flames809 - 9/22/2009, 6:05 PM
shaman- that's a lot of money damm i want to see that movie again Dracula vs batman the best fight ever it would be a cool live action movie
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 6:46 AM
Flames- Good point ;)

LEEE- I don't know the slightest thing about Losers but i'd love to see it! Cooper is like the exact image of Guy!!! Can't wait to get on with my upcoming sketch casts :))

Here's the list:

Charlize Theron as Domino
Matthew Fox as Barry Allen The Flash
Michael Fassbender as Aquaman(that character desparately NEEDS that actor!!!)
Aisha Tyler as Storm
aaaaaannnnnnd... Cooper as Guy ;)
flames809 - 9/23/2009, 5:21 PM
shaman yea but if they ever do the movie they should do it know cuz batman has to be young like in the batman
THEHAWK - 9/24/2009, 1:22 PM
@Flames. ???

Batman isn't young, he that young, he was in 'The Batman' but in all other media (comics shows film etc.) he isn't young. that is one thing I didn't like about that show. That and the Joker.
Shaman - 9/25/2009, 9:15 AM
Personally i didn't find him that young to begin with in "The Batman". He's an adult and still pulls off the father figure when Dick and Barb join up.
flames809 - 9/25/2009, 6:02 PM
it was cool how they showed Barbra
MovieTheaterLad - 10/20/2009, 3:57 PM
Jeffrey Dean Morgan was already The Comedian.

Let someone else have a chance.
Shaman - 10/21/2009, 11:14 AM
The Comedian is done and gone. The Comedian isn't a franchise unlike Lobo. And for this franchise to soar, it NEEDS Jeffrey Dean Morgan! Or someone of the same type and caliber.
