Danny Dyer Auditioned To Play Robin In BATMAN & ROBIN

The English actor has revealed that he auditioned for the role of Dick Grayson/Robin in Joel Schumacher's disaster-piece Batman & Robin, apparently before Chris O'Donnell was confirmed to reprise the role.

Talking with Popbitch, Danny Dyer - seen in films such as Borstal Boy and The Football Factory - discusses a few of the film roles that he auditioned for but didn't get the parts, and among those roles were Dick Grayson/Robin in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, commonly considered one of the worst comic book movies ever made (if not the worst). We all know that Chris O'Donnell reprised the role from the prior film, Batman Forever. Check out a segment from the interview below:

I auditioned for Robin in Batman and Robin with Joel Schumacher. It’s strange really because for every one part you get, you lose out on twenty -- rejection, you get used to that pretty early, but you still want to know why, you want to know details. Why? Why don’t they want me? You’re in competition with so many actors, you can’t just be in competition with yourself -- you’ve just got to accept it and move on. I was given many rejections to start with and I’m sure there have been many actors that I have beat to the jobs that feel the same way.

Don't beat yourself up about it dude... you dodged a major bullet by losing out to Chris O'Donnell.

Dyer seems like a proper salt of the Earth, unpretentious fella. He is also a truly bad actor. Really, really AWFUL.
hoperidesalone - 3/1/2012, 9:05 AM
He auditioned for the role of Robin in Batman & Robin? Not Batman Forever? I guess that means O'Donnell was planning on not returning. Interesting.

EVEN A BAD ACTOR CAN DODGE A BULLET.

@teabag

"OI! Freeze you mug c*nt!"

Altho now thinking about it id love to see Jason Statham and Stephen Graham (Turkish and Tommy from Snatch) as Batman and Robin ala "Only fools and horses".

p.s. stephen graham would make a great batman nolan villain in the same way tom hardy is going to be like i said when watching bronson at the cinema b4 he was even cast in inception lol

I actually find myself watching Dyer movies when I'm bored just for a giggle. I watched his latest one, Deviation, the other night. Good lord.

just imagining it now, Bruce Wayne born in Gotham In Notting Hill (real place).

parents stabbed outside a pub in brixton after a gig.
brought up by his hot Italian au pair Alfreda.

And the joker is a punk that doesnt realise the sex pistols broke up 30 years ago lol

HellsHammer - 3/1/2012, 9:32 AM
never heard of this guy
CraptainAmerica - 3/1/2012, 9:35 AM
If you've never heard of this man, don't fill your head with knowing that he's alive. He's the biggest bellend going. He was only 'Celebrity Juice' (for all the UK users) and I almost turned off that awesome show because this bloated, mockney c**t was on it.

@tea just nailed the quotes.

I didn't think this movie could ever have got any worse...I just got proven wrong

I remember liking him in films like Football Factory, Mean Machine, Severance...... and always thought he'd be a dick in real life (Dick??? anyone?)

But saw him in Watford a few years back and he seemed alright
forthesakeofnow - 3/1/2012, 9:39 AM
@craptainamerica

i was with you until you said you watch celebrity juice/anything on ITV 2
BillyBatson1000 - 3/1/2012, 9:46 AM
So even THAT movie COULD have been worse - I know people who know this guy and he's a total EGO ON A STICK.
forthesakeofnow - 3/1/2012, 9:50 AM
@teabag

now i know where "teabag" comes from, how long were u in prison? (not a prison break reference)
marvel72 - 3/1/2012, 9:59 AM
danny dyer is a prick.
Unionjack - 3/1/2012, 10:24 AM
well that would have made the movie even worse!! - Guy is funny, but a pants actor!! - he also said that he just missed out on Edward Furlongs role in American History X!!
Fishandchips - 3/1/2012, 10:25 AM
Actually I'd say Joel dodged a bullet there, Danny dyer is one of the very few things that could have made that any worse, such an ego filled tosser.
SuperFrost - 3/1/2012, 10:45 AM
CRAP MOVIE< CRAP DIRECTOR, BUT.... greatest Arnold catch phrase, "Everybody Chill!"

PaulRom - 3/1/2012, 11:07 AM
Yeah this is the first time I've heard of someone other than O'Donnell playing Robin in B&R, but Dyer said it was that movie and he didn't say anything about Batman Forever. Could've been a mistake though.
Rowsdower - 3/1/2012, 12:21 PM
I think he meant Forever.
mgeoff88 - 3/1/2012, 1:37 PM
I've never heard of this guy before. No matter who was cast or recasted as Robin; the movie was still going to fail.

I also remember hearing Marlon Wayans was asked to play Robin, but he turned down the role.

I think that was for Batman Forever.
valeriesghost - 3/1/2012, 1:40 PM
I have no clue who this guy is, and from the above comments i don't think i'm missing much
