The past week or two has seen a frenzy of news related to the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Now, "Turtlegate" seemingly continues as Bleeding Cool confirms the working title for Paramount's upcoming TMNT reboot (from producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman). After Bay's comments on the Turtles being "from an alien race", many have speculated that they won't exactly be mutants in this film. Another key word is dropped from the title, as the working title is said to be Ninja Turtles. Bleeding Cool hasn't been able to verify why the studio decided to go with the title change, and their sources aren't even sure if the Turtles will be adolescents in the movie.

One of their sources commented on the name change, "It seems to be driven by marketing. Think of John Carter and how Disney wouldn’t allow for a title with either “Princess” or “Mars”." What do you think of the possible title change?

Ninja Turtles is set to be released December 25th, 2013.

NINJA TURTLES is alright title. they already been nicknamed as NINJA TURTLES.

but they better not be from a Alien Planet. just have the ooze that mutant that have alien substance
Ceejay - 3/24/2012, 8:50 AM
The entire TMNT concept is corny and silly, lord knows why anyone is up in arms about any of this!?
MB007 - 3/24/2012, 8:50 AM
@MrNiceGuy

GUNSMITH - 3/24/2012, 8:59 AM
THEY LEFT OUT "MUTANT" BECAUSE THEIR "ALIENS"
CapFan79 - 3/24/2012, 9:00 AM
Don't most of us just say "Ninja Turtles" or TMNT anyway? Not a big deal. No one was pissed Thor wasn't The "Mighty" Thor. You guys get pissed over the most minuscule stuff. Like Thor's helmet.
Mrcool210 - 3/24/2012, 9:00 AM
That Crap Tv Series with a 5th ninja turtles (with boobs) was also called Ninja Turtles, and look how well that show turned out
Benjamitesandwich - 3/24/2012, 9:03 AM
"Ninja Turtles" isn't a bad title . . . I wish, however, that it had the full title. Someone is going to shoot Bay, I can just smell it.
Lilvic92 - 3/24/2012, 9:03 AM
@Ceejay
A grown man who dresses up like a Bat is silly
A teenager that gets bit by a spider and gains arachnid like powers is silly.
Aquaman...
Alot comics have a sillyness to them, be we still love them. TMNT actually has some dark and serious storylines but because of the 80's and 2000's cartoons the series is often seen as kiddy.
QuietStorm - 3/24/2012, 9:03 AM
^I didnt even know there was a 5th Turtle. I'd like to thank myself for subconsciously not allowing myself to even go near something like that!
DukeAcureds - 3/24/2012, 9:04 AM
Read a real TMNT script on fan-fic. They're Teenagers! They're Mutants! They're not gorramm Aliens!
SaroM - 3/24/2012, 9:04 AM
That's stupid... the turtles being from an alien race???? wtf! stick to the true story mudda[frick]a!
DukeAcureds - 3/24/2012, 9:05 AM
Has anyone read the IDW comic? They mutate over the course of a year so they're not teenagers in that either.
MrSuperheromoviefan - 3/24/2012, 9:07 AM
if they didn't say about the alien race it would be ok, but now it horrible
bay will shit us
Ha1frican - 3/24/2012, 9:11 AM
@DukeAcureds i dig the gorramm reference :)
Ha1frican - 3/24/2012, 9:12 AM
Why won't they just go dark like the original comics. It's a departure from the norm yet something established...
StrangerX - 3/24/2012, 9:15 AM
LOL
CapFan79 - 3/24/2012, 9:20 AM
@Ceejay Yeah, they were created as a joke. It was a parody of Daredevil. It was intended to be a lame concept (since everything Marvel did involved radioactive materal). The cartoon made it popular. It's why I liked it as a kid. I appreciate the comic but still prefer the original animated series and would prefer a film closer to that. I wasn't fond of the alien stuff they did on the more recent Fox series, though it didn't irk me since I'm an adult. I don't care what film they make, but I'd welcome something close to what I loved about them. If they don't then I don't have to watch.
Bandrews1 - 3/24/2012, 9:21 AM
Wasn't the 90s live action series simply titled Ninja Turtles as well?
Julesimanerd - 3/24/2012, 9:21 AM
i call them Ninja Turtles instead of TMNT, i'm okay with the working title, because its just a working title
DividedIStand80 - 3/24/2012, 9:22 AM
Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Fallen Shredder
Mrcool210 - 3/24/2012, 9:25 AM
also, if johnathen liebsman is directing, we know we are in trouble
sunwukong86 - 3/24/2012, 9:27 AM
The original comics weren't as dark and gritty as everyone thinks.

They were nothing ilke the 80s/90s cartoon but they weren't Frank Miller dark
95 - 3/24/2012, 9:32 AM
I read about this two days ago. To me- this move infuriates me more than the alien aspect. With so many changes- they should just rewrite this as an original idea instead.
BillyBatson1000 - 3/24/2012, 9:36 AM
If you can get past the basic absurdity of Turtle characters anyway - note this - in science a mutation is something that only happens once. And there's four of them - all the same. But hey, who's counting?
Nick56 - 3/24/2012, 9:44 AM
Im pretty sure the director said that THE OOZE IS WHAT IS ALIEN. Therefore the Turtles are still mutants.
ClarkWayne91 - 3/24/2012, 9:49 AM

Apparently they are marketing this movie towards Jewish people.
thedude2936 - 3/24/2012, 9:57 AM
Im fine with the title NINJA TURTLES cause I called them that all the time when I was younger, but as for as the whole alien thing, Ill accept that ONLY if the ooze that mutates them and splinter is alien.
johan02 - 3/24/2012, 9:59 AM
ok, everyone calls them the Ninja Turtles anyway so the title itself dosent bother me. Its the implications that it has attached to it. If not for the whole alien race thing I think most peole really wont care if the movie was just called Ninja Turtles.
@Lilvic92 Aquaman... LMAO
CapFan79 - 3/24/2012, 10:00 AM
Ninja Turtles: Dark of the Sewer?
KamCannon - 3/24/2012, 10:01 AM
John Carter's title change at least had some grounding in story since he wasn't technically OF Mars at that point and their idea was the second would be titled John Carter of Mars. This is just a way to cover their ass by taking egregious liberties with an established property. Why take a property with a massive following and then slap them in a face to draw in a new audience who it's been proven time and again don't want it? The people who buy Turtles products these days are overwhelmingly fans who were there from the beginning or from the cartoon show.
NeoBaggins - 3/24/2012, 10:01 AM
My body is ready for the BayBoot.

Bomblu - 3/24/2012, 10:01 AM
I think it's incorrect to relate this particular name change to that of John Carter. Even though the John Carter series of books shaped Sci-Fi as we know it, was not as "famous" as it was back then (unlike "old" books such as lotr, etc) so - i believe - the majority of moviegoers did not know about this character from beforehand. TMNT, on the other hand, are still pretty fresh in everyone's mind so, heck, even if the movie was called "Green aliens with colored masks" people would immediately know that they're the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Not to mention that the trailers will show the turtles, and not green aliens in the desert (what people interpreted the John Carter trailer to be about)...
CapFan79 - 3/24/2012, 10:05 AM
ClarkWilson91 your childhood is in the past. What they do now doesn't change what was made then. I'm sick of the childhood argument with every damn comic or cartoon character. You can still watch the old movies right?

I don't love the Star Wars prequels but the OT is still the OT. If you are so dead set against the PT or SE trilogy then watch your old VHS tapes, from your childhood.
thanos83 - 3/24/2012, 10:07 AM
Wow..so this is going 2 suck & blow..amazing
