Guy Pearce Joins The Cast Of IRON MAN 3 As "Aldrich Killian"

The Prometheus actor is in final talks to play geneticist Aldrich Killian in Marvel Studios' third Iron Man film, which begins production in a few weeks.

Recently, we heard that Ben Kingsley was in talks to play the villain in Marvel Studios' third Iron Man film, which begins production next month in North Carolina. Now, Variety reports that Guy Pearce - who recently starred in Lockout and will soon be seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus - is in final talks to join the cast of Iron Man 3. Pearce will play the geneticist Aldrich Killian. Shane Black is directing the film, which also stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle. Walt Disney Pictures is distributing with Marvel Studios.

The movie will be loosely based on Warren Ellis' "Extremis" storyline (which also influenced the first movie). In the books, Killian co-created the Extremis technology that Iron Man adopts after Killian sells it to terrorists.

Iron Man 3 is set to hit theaters May 3rd, 2013.

I'm very cautious on Ben Kingsley (can be a force of nature.........e.g. "Sexy Beast".......or go the other direction and be far too hammy for my taste "Prince of Persia")

but Pearce is pure talent. this is fantastic news.

I love how comics book movies are being taken seriously by actors and directors now. Its so good for us fans. I can't wait to see this movie. The Mandarin/Extremis storyline is one of iron mans bests I hope they go that route and not just warrens Ellis extremis storyline.

@p862010. If you noticed guy peirc's career, he doesn't take roles like that. I'm sure his role in iron man is going to be important and in depth.

@sexfoodcomics, that's because a lot of actors and directors are looking for franchises and comic book movies have built in franchise potential.

I can't recall the actor, but I was reading a recent article where someone was saying that Hollywood isn't making regular big budget summer action films anymore.They're making superhero movies, instead.They're the new summer blockbusters.So you'd better jump onboard.

I wonder if they are planning on combining the Killian and Mallen characters. That would help streamline the story a little bit and give the movie a cool second act battle before the (hopefully) Mandarin finale

I'm a little irked by this. Guy Pearce, who is one of the world's most underrated actors, once again becomes a part of something major and will end up getting killed before the story even reaches its finish.

It drove me insane to see him in The Hurt Locker only to watch him drown in his own blood five minutes into the damn thing!

I hate knowing that, as Killian, that's all he has to look forward to. Blowing his brains out.

Hopefully they'll expand on his character, in IM3. Fingers[frick]ingcrossed.

Would have preferred him for Doc Strange but hey im glad he is in the MCU in some capacity. Marvel has been lining up great casts through and through for the MCU.

I really don't care for the Extremis story. This whole thing now of Tony's armour being a part of him. It's crap. The whole original point of Iron Man is that he does what people with super-powers do, but with tech. Now he's just becoming another super-powered hero, no different to the others. His vulnerability when he couldn't get to the suit was great. That whole scene in Iron Man 2 with the suitcase armour. You worried for his safety.
