Marvel has officially announced a brand new miniseries titled Marvel Universe Vs. The Avengers, which will be written by Jonathan Maberry (Marvel Universe Vs. Punisher, Marvel Universe Vs. Wolverine). In his two previous miniseries, Maberry depicted a world where a plague turned most of Earth’s heroes into cannibalistic monsters. Marvel Universe Vs. The Avengers is the latest installment in the saga, and will look deeper into events, bringing the terror close to home. Leandro Fernandez will handle the artwork on the four-issue miniseries, which will begin in October. In addition to revealing the cover for the first issue in the series, the official Marvel website posted some quotes from Jonathan Maberry.

“The story is intensely personal, as all stories of great cultural trauma,” Maberry says. “These are horror stories, and MARVEL UNIVERSE VS THE AVENGERS takes the horror down to a very personal level. We are no longer witnessing the world’s hurt or the cultural hurt, we’re inside the head – and heart — of a man who is experiencing the most personal kind of hurt.” This man is archer Hawkeye, from whose eyes this story will be told.

Maberry also confirms that we can expect many familiar faces. “The story is told from Hawkeye’s perspective, but most of the big guns are there: Thor, Hulk — red and green versions — Iron Man, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, and others,” reveals the writer. “We also check in on the kids at Avengers Academy. The events in these four issues cut a bloody swath across the entire Avengers landscape.”

“The world is becoming a horror show and no one has the power to stop it,” Maberry explains. “Then we look down at the street-level, at a man like Hawkeye who has no super powers and who isn’t really the go-to guy for a world-threatening crisis and for reasons we’ll explore in the story, he doesn’t succumb to the plague as quickly. More and more of the responsibility for this fight falls to him, and he’s extremely mortal.

“View that same thing from another perspective and you see someone who has never been as powerful as his teammates, and yet he’s always held the line, always done his part. So, maybe he’s the kind of hero we need in a world where super powers are no longer the answer.”

WTF??

It sounds just like Marvel Zombies, just you know, more serious and with the protagonist not being zombies, honestly sounds like a story with a lot of potential, but it feels like Marvel is running out of ideas when they launch alternate reality mini-series like this.

Marvel, stop the events, and start doing some decent story telling.
marvel72 - 6/29/2012, 2:04 PM
it might be alright, some nice artwork there.
JDUKE25 - 6/29/2012, 2:09 PM
Good grief......more of this crap?
CaptainObvious - 6/29/2012, 2:14 PM
Marvel Zombies mixed with every Marvel event of the past 6 years.

If it is going to be as disappointing as AvX, then I will wait for the trade paper back...
MrsTonyStark0507 - 6/29/2012, 2:22 PM
Oh, I DON'T like that at all!!! Yuck!!!

Knightrider - I agree! Enough already!!

Sounds Lame.

Is Thor wearing a kilt in that picture?

WTF

Actually,Marvel Universe Vs.Punisher was really good. Much better and truer successor to Marvel Zombies than any of the sequels. Just without the dark humor. Didn't like the follow up with Wolverine because of the crap art. Hope the next one doesn't disappoint.
Knightrider - 6/29/2012, 2:54 PM
@Just1Superguy Yeah Marvel do the whole hero vs hero thing too often, but what's more frustrating is that it is never any good, I wouldn't mind these hero vs hero concepts if they were actual enjoyable reads.

DC have trinity war coming up, be interesting to see how they do the hero vs hero thing.

Another event of this guy vs this guy or this fellow vs everybody else. Gosh, The House of Idea ran out of Ideas. Is this the freaking UFC
2Challa - 6/29/2012, 4:28 PM
Ok we have Deadpool vs Marvel U, Punisher vs Marvel U, Avengers vs Marvel U. Im sure there are more but my question is. What are the villains doing during this time. I miss Doom, Ultron, Magneto, Carnage, and the other classics. Hell Id rather them fight Taskmaster.
OdinsBeard - 6/29/2012, 4:43 PM
so IS this the reveal of the "this is war" teasers? i hope not.
nhalden - 6/29/2012, 4:45 PM
Well if CBM Fght club is any indication ...Hulk and Thor beat all...all the time...so Marvel U vs "anyone" all lose to one of these two guys.

If the "Anyone" isn't either HULK or THOR...then Marvel U wins...if they are the "Anyone" then they still win.

LOL...

LAME....HULK with his Voodoo skulls
Lazyfan - 6/29/2012, 4:51 PM

monstermaniac - 6/29/2012, 7:21 PM
My god this looks like absolute shit. How is stuff like this approved?
coalesce - 6/29/2012, 7:30 PM
@jwsmith85: I have to agree. At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy-duddy, I miss Herb Trimpe, John Buscema, Dave Cockrum, Gene Colan, Marie Severin and others of that generation. Unique and refreshing? That was MIke Golden to a "T." They were all about substance over style, but their styles were unmistakable.

Now get off mah lawn!!!!

You guus have absolutely no idea what you're talking about with this story. Its not even in continuity, and is nothing like marvel zombies. But whatever, people not knowing about comics is just par for the course with people on this site.

Do yourselves a favor and go read Marvel Universe vs Punisher, then Marvel Universe vs Wolverine, then come back and make informative comments. Otherwise just stop, you sound ignorant.

this doesnt really seem like an event, its only 4 issues. i like the plague idea but i really hope there's some real villainy in this miniseries
Asterisk - 6/29/2012, 8:16 PM
Man, people are MEAN against comics these days! Jeez!
cosmicstranger - 6/29/2012, 10:19 PM
@Knightrider- Agreed. It does not matter what "universe" something takes place in. If the ideas are exceedingly scant, then do something else...such as focusing on storyline!

I never thought I would say this, but Marvel is convincing me to stop reading its comic stories.
jimoakley666 - 6/29/2012, 10:56 PM
No interest in these kinds of things. But it is a cool little detail that Iron Man's face piece is now shaped like a skull.

@SteveRogersSon: I disagree. I'm not "hating just to hate." I've been a comic book collector, on and off, for over 35 years. I know what I like. The stuff I grew up on in the 1970s is what I'm most comfortable with. When the hyper-muscular craze started in the 90s, I lost interest. What got me back was the Iron Man Extremis artwork of Adi Granov, which I thought was beyond exquisite. It was superlative storytelling without the art becoming intrusive. I also thought the World War Hulk and the initial Green Hulk/Red Hulk arcs were terrific, so I'd like to think that I'm not stuck in the past, but instead, know what I like. At no point did I say "this is crap and no one should buy it." If I did, please point it out.

If expressing a different opinion than yours is "hating," then I suggest you rethink your definition of "hating." The tent is big enough for dissenting voices without having to resort to broad conclusions.

Like everyone said, this is just a play on Marvel Zombies. I liked Marvel Zombies so this might be alright. I do dig Hawkeye. (not the new version, yes the purple version)
EarOne - 7/5/2012, 3:43 AM
i want marvel universe vs. ULTIMATE universe. when will THAT one happen..?? c'mon...this is one guaranteed hit, WHY won't Marvel just do it already??
