By Paul Romano - 7/4/2012
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well.

Oz: The Great And Powerful is set to hit theaters March 8th, 2013.

Joker08 - 7/4/2012, 9:31 AM
One ring to rule them all...
DanteSparda - 7/4/2012, 9:31 AM
I loved Drag me to hell and I was hoping Raimi were going to do something similar but still I'm lookig for this movie.

I just hope there are some horror scenes in this movie, even if it isn't an horror film, like in Spider-man with the Green Goblin inside the building in flames and specially in Spider-man 2 when doctors try to amput Doc Ock metal tentacles, something like the good old Evil Dead humor.
TheDickRises - 7/4/2012, 9:31 AM

MovieMann - 7/4/2012, 9:32 AM

Congrats Disney. I never cared for this film, but this (spectacularly drawn) poster has caught my interest. And that fact that it's Disney has me a bit more hopefully that it won't be (at the very least) "not-boring".
BattlinMurdock - 7/4/2012, 9:35 AM
As long as Franco gives a better performance than the one he gave the entire length of the Academy Awards ceremony he hosted.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/4/2012, 9:35 AM
Pretty cool poster I guess.
subzero1077 - 7/4/2012, 9:37 AM
Very excited for this! Poster is absolutely beautiful.
PaulRom - 7/4/2012, 9:39 AM
For anyone who's doubting how well Franco can act, watch 127 Hours. He needed an Oscar for his performance.
JatevinM - 7/4/2012, 9:42 AM
I'd hang this up in my room so that is a great poster
RorMachine - 7/4/2012, 9:46 AM

HavocPrime - 7/4/2012, 9:51 AM
Raimi is a good director, but a Visonary? I think he has a ways to go before reaching that title.
TheAbomination - 7/4/2012, 9:54 AM
Looks good, but I feel like this is gonna turn out to be an "Alice in Wonderland (2010)" rip-off.
misner89 - 7/4/2012, 10:27 AM

eleven59 - 7/4/2012, 10:36 AM

JoeMomma29 - 7/4/2012, 11:44 AM
LOL you know it will not be like Alice in Wonderland because there is no Johnny Depp or Tim Burton's big headed wife!
MrZoolittle - 7/4/2012, 11:44 AM
I loved the Wizard Of Oz, I can't wait for this one!
JediJoker515 - 7/4/2012, 11:51 AM
I'm not sure if I'll be seeing this movie. But, that really is a beautiful poster. Leagues better than the overly shopped half-assed ones that I'm used to seeing.
MilitaryStormtrooper - 7/4/2012, 12:25 PM
Seriously.. 'Visionary'???

but otherwise amazing poster, you can also see James Franco in the air balloon
DanteSparda - 7/4/2012, 12:53 PM
LOL at all people complaining about Raimi's "visionary" title, of course he's not a visionary director but you should be used to this kind of lies that movie posters tend to say, I have seen much worse than this.
musashi - 7/4/2012, 1:24 PM
Visionary director? That's what they said about Zac Snyder
wbrowning79 - 7/4/2012, 1:57 PM
@MilitaryStormtrooper.

"Seriously.. 'Visionary'???"

What do you mean Seriously Visionary!? Hell yeah Raimi is Visionary!
Christuffer - 7/4/2012, 2:03 PM
@Joker08 - That's not even funny dude. Make like a tree and get out of here
MJPETTY7 - 7/4/2012, 2:26 PM
The Emerald City looks like Kandor... Cool!
superotherside - 7/4/2012, 2:57 PM
Awesome. Can't wait! I thought this would be good.
CaptainObvious - 7/4/2012, 3:33 PM
For those questioning the 'visionary' title, have you ever seen Raimi's other films outside of Spider-Man?
Evil Dead trilogy, Darkman, A Simple Plan, Drag Me to Hell. Watch those movies and you will understand 'visionary.'
Joker08 - 7/4/2012, 5:44 PM
@Fartman:

It wasn't supposed to be funny. And I'm actually really excited for this film - I have been since it was announced.

But I guess with a username like Fartman, I should have known your sense of humor would be far too sophisticated for anything I could say anyway.

mgeoff88 - 7/4/2012, 5:54 PM
That's a cool poster. This could turn out to be pretty good.
Super12 - 7/4/2012, 6:00 PM
Love it. I'm stoked.
worldbreaker - 7/4/2012, 7:19 PM
how do you make a prequel to dorothy's dreams?
worldbreaker - 7/4/2012, 7:50 PM
yes they have to advertise him as a "visionary" director. it's a relative term anyway. they cant advertise as "by the completely mediocre ram raimi" as hilarious as that would be. i dont get why they wouldve put the spiderman trilogy on there. spiderman 1 and 2 were fine but the 3rd completely ruined the trilogy. i guess with a popular new spiderman some people wont know the difference
worldbreaker - 7/4/2012, 7:51 PM
hehe "ram raimi" i refuse to correct that
Tainted87 - 7/4/2012, 11:00 PM
Spider-man was revolutionary, but I think they are referring to Raimi's earlier works, like Evil Dead and Darkman. Those were visionary.

Anyway, stupid question, but is there a witch of the south? Or did Oz land on her?
Dmon - 7/5/2012, 1:54 AM
@Tainted87 There is a good Witch of the South who is Glinda and a Wicked Witch of the South also.
worldbreaker - 7/5/2012, 2:50 AM
i thought north and south were good and east and west were wicked. and i thought glinda was north. the oz gangwars confuse me
Dechiriko - 7/5/2012, 4:00 AM
zach braff is playing michael jackson for the one who asked
Dmon - 7/5/2012, 9:48 AM
@worldbreaker In the books Glinda is from the South in the Movie she is from the North. The real Good Witch from the North removed the wicked witch of the North named Mombi. Wicked Witch Mombi actually ends up being the more significant to the story of OZ then the Wicked Witch of the the West.
maito - 7/8/2012, 8:04 AM
love Oz hate the spider man trilogy, got mixed thoughts here.
