I wonder if this movie will go into the esoteric story of Noah or stay within the confines of the Pope approved biblical account?

Great cast so far

How is this CBM related? I guess it could perhaps qualify as fantasy, depending where you stand on bible stories...

@nordberg: Did you read the article? Because if you did, you would notice that it says that the story is based on a graphic novel written by Aronofsky.

No, I didn't read it until just now. Might be because most things bible-related cause my eyes to roll to the back of my head, making reading impossible. I am a fan of most of his (Aronofsky's) work, though.

@nordberg You can't form an opinion on something until you actually read it or know about it. You didn't have any idea what this "Noah" thing is about and yet you assume something that is completely wrong.

What I assumed was that the movie is not CBM-related because I was too lazy (or perhaps momentarily distracted by something shiny) to read beyond the intro paragraph before posting my outrageous gaffe.

Is that what you're referring to, or am I missing something (else)?

I could be wrong, but I don't think billions of animals are going to fit. But, hey, maybe its like that episode of enterprise when they find that ship from the future and the Tholians end up stealing it. There was like a pocket universe or something inside the ship, so it was small on the outside and MASSIVE on the inside. Perfect explanation for this sci-fi epic.

You don't have to believe that Noah and His Ark existed, but at least read the Bible and get some of the facts right.

A Feasibility Study was done on Noah's Ark: , it was estimated that only about 15% of the animals on the ark would have been larger than a sheep. This figure does not take into account the possibility that God may have brought Noah “infant” animals (including Dinosaurs), which can be significantly smaller than adult animals.

How many animals were on the ark? it is estimated that about 16,000 “kinds.” What is a “kind”? The designation of “kind” is thought to be much broader than the designation “species.” Even as there are over 400 dog breeds all belonging to one species (Canis familiaris), so many species can belong to one kind. Some think that the designation “genus” may be somewhat close to the Biblical “kind.”

Nevertheless, even if we presume that “kind” is synonymous with “species,” “there are not very many species of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles. The leading systematic biologist, Ernst Mayr, gives the number as 17,600. Allowing for two of each species on the ark, plus seven of the few so-called “clean” kinds of animals, plus a reasonable increment for known extinct species, it is obvious that not more than, say, 50,000 animals were on the ark” (Morris, 1987).

Some have estimated that there were as many as 25,000 kinds of animals represented on the ark. This is a high-end estimation. With two of each kind and seven of some, the number of animals would exceed 50,000, though not by very much, relatively speaking. Regardless, whether there were 16,000 or 25,000 kinds of animals, even with two of each and seven of some, scholars agree that there was plenty of room for all of the animals on the ark, plus food and water with room to spare.
Size of the Ark
300 x 22 inches = 6,600; 50 x 22 inches = 1,100; 30 x 22 inches = 660
6,600/12 = 550 feet; 1100/12 = 91.7 feet; 660/12 = 55 feet.

Size Comparison to Modern Ships

Looking forward to seeing this movie based on the Graphic Novel :)

@Maximillion: I hand't intended to get into a religious debate, but your claims are highly ridiculous, and desperate. When you use the term "facts" and bible you've already stepped onto very shaky ground. I say desperation because you waste no time putting forward "maybes" and "possibilities" to account for blatant nonsense. Maybe this god of yours brought Noah infant animals? Really? What verse says this or even implies this? Please enlighten us.

When you say “feasibility study,” I can only imagine what you’re talking about is the book written by John Woodmorappe. He is not a scholar, nor is he unbiased in his position as he has written several articles for the Creation Science Groups Answers in Genesis and the Institute for Creation Research.

You want to talk about reading the bible, maybe you should have took the time to read it yourself. Here, allow me to cite some verses for you (contradictory as they are):

"Genesis 6:19: Of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark.

Genesis 7:8, 9, 15: Of clean beast and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowl ... there went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God commanded Noah.

Genesis 7:2: Of every clean beast thou shalt take thee by sevens, the male and his female."

So, is it 2 or 7? Can't the bible writers get their story straight? This talk about "kinds" is the kind of crap that really annoys me. The scientific term species was not even invented yet, so anyone trying to misrepresent the word "kind" to mean anything other than exactly the way it is used by non-scientists (i.e., a Pit Pull and Poodle are 2 different kinds of dogs) is only demonstrating the desperate lengths they are willing to go to save face in light of their beliefs being dismantled and shoved into the fantasy section where it belongs. The word kind is thought to be broader than the term species? What a ridiculous statement. I can't believe you're actually trying to make this argument. It’s really alarming.

I was poking fun at the movie, but this, THIS is disturbing. Your attempts to justify this is laughable. There isn’t a single shred of scientific evidence that a flood of this scale happened and, on top of this, you have the nerve to insinuate that there were dinosaurs, DINOSAURS, on the ark. WTF? The only scholars that would agree with you are the batsh#@ crazy ones. Please stop embarrassing yourself and your buddy, Tony93. It's breaking my heart.
