Dolph Lundgren Up For An Appearance In The MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot

When asked if he would be interested in a role in Sony Pictures' planned reboot of Masters Of The Universe, former He-Man Dolph Lundren says that he wouldn't mind making an appearance (possibly as King Randor).

Speaking with IGN while promoting The Expendables 2, Dolph Lundgren was asked if he would be interested in appearing in the new Masters Of The Universe movie. The actor starred as He-Man in the 1987 adaptation of Mattel's popular toy line and animated series. While clearly not interested in reprising the He-Man role, Lundgren expressed interest in making some sort of appearance in the new film, possibly as King Randor (He-Man/Prince Adam's father and ruler of Eternia).

"Yeah, I think it's a good idea. I thought He-Man was a cool character, and I had fun doing it. I wouldn't wanna take my shirt off again for three months, wearing diapers [loincloth]. So I'd rather play the King. But yeah, good idea. Y'know, all of these old superheroes are coming back, and I'm sure that's one that people could enjoy."

Recently, it was reported that Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) was in negotiations to direct Sony Pictures/Escape Artist's planned adaptation of Masters Of The Universe. The script was originally written by Alex Litvak (The Three Musketeers) and Mike Finch (Exclusively Yours), though Mattel are said to be revising the draft. Do you want to see Dolph Lundgren appear in a role in the new He-Man movie?

I think that would be a kool idea, no matter what crap people give the film, I loved MOTU when I was growing up
DrainBamage - 8/3/2012, 4:19 PM
I'm pretty sure Lundgren would be happy to appear in anything these days.

Frank Langella as Skeletor was what made this movie for me. I still get a kick seeing it on the rare occasion it is on.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/3/2012, 4:48 PM

@Natrag: OH MY GOD! It's Alan Moore and he's.... SMILING!!! D:

But onto the article, I would find it cool if they did that. Sort of like what they did with the new Thundercats show with the original voice of Lion-o playing Lion-o's father.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/3/2012, 4:57 PM
tea@ Poor man. Lucky i was just little baby back then. Unaware of bad things that happened that year. ;)
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/3/2012, 5:00 PM

i think it would be better to strip it down...no prince adam and all that...kinda follow the story they wove with the origional figure...before the cartoon...it could be really cool...like a big HEAVY METAL thing...
teabag - 8/3/2012, 5:12 PM
Was it so hard to spray a tiger green in the 80's..hell they sprayed one black for Beastmaster ;P
teabag - 8/3/2012, 5:13 PM
Sly@ I like my He-Man with Prince Adam...and tight pink clothing is a must :)
LoudNoises - 8/3/2012, 5:16 PM
If this movie is done right and it's successful, it will pave the way to a long overdue Thundercats movie. That's all that matters in the end :)
teabag - 8/3/2012, 5:17 PM
And at the end of the movie i want He-Man to look at the screen and tell me how not stealing a mystical orb to break into castle Greyskull will help me make friends and not be a bully :)
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/3/2012, 5:19 PM
tea@ lol i can imagine. Its like you´re ordering burger and they give you only the bread. What´s fun in that?

But i gotta admit when i finally saw Dolph´s he-man i still kinda enjoyed it (silly kid cause i was).
I were wondering thou where he lost his super strength and Battle Cat.
Screwger - 8/3/2012, 5:22 PM
I hope new He-Man or Prince Adam will not have that stupid haircut that he had in cartoon and toy series. DOLPH was cool He-Man in bad movie and he's haircut was 100 times better then original!

IIIAdamantiumIII - 8/3/2012, 5:23 PM
motu 87 had its ups and downs better than what most people say, DL is a beast!!
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/3/2012, 5:24 PM
those life lessons were best parts of the cartoon show. :)
CapFan79 - 8/3/2012, 5:27 PM
I'm with Tea! Was one of the biggest dissapointments of my young life. It was Episode I to He-Man fans.

How can you hate Gwildor? He was movie version of Orco
SLK - 8/3/2012, 5:32 PM
@yossarian

[frick] you! Lundgren is great. He outplayed everyone in "Ex 1". And you just run your dirty mouth, Hugh Jackman laughs at you.
SunSp0t - 8/3/2012, 5:33 PM
I doubt this movie will be made...
GUNSMITH - 8/3/2012, 5:43 PM
HE COULD PLAY PRINCE ADAM'S DAD THE KING..ADAM PLAYED BY A YOUNGER GUY AND HE-MAN PLAYED BY CHRIS HEMSWORTH
Fogs - 8/3/2012, 5:55 PM
Believe or not I'm excited to see what this might become. With today's technology it could be awesome.
StarSpangledBruce - 8/3/2012, 5:58 PM
Whatever He-Man hits, he destroys.

TheOneSuperMan - 8/3/2012, 6:04 PM

Does ANYONE happen to have a copy of the script for this proposed Masters of the Universe reboot?I've looked all over the net for it and coming up empty!

It's gotta be out there somewhere! It was posted on certain sites and then taken down at some point.

From what I've read as far as reviews of the script go, it's supposed to have been [frick]ing awesome!

As far as this article goes: I saw this when it came to VHS back in the late 80's. Actually loved it! I collected all of the He-Man characters I could get my hands on, hated the cartoon but loved the mini-comics that came with the action figures. I figured, when I saw the movie, that was as good as it was going to get..ever! And Lundgren's hair and the costume designs were pretty awesome! I especially loved BeastMan and Saurod, that reptile...thing. Don't believe he was an actual action figure tho.
preacher - 8/3/2012, 6:07 PM
@StarSpangledBruce-LMFAO! Great Rocky reference!
darkmetal - 8/3/2012, 7:22 PM
What really hurt MOTU was when GARY GODDARD became involved.
He was obsessed with RIPPING OFF anything successful and especially Star Wars.
They got Star Wars special effects guys and added Star Wars elements as much as possible.
So you had Star Wars blasters, a Yoda rip off, Skeletor became the Emperor. The whole hovering chair thing was done just to rip the Palpatine on the throne scenes from Jedi.
Had they just developed a He-Man movie not He-Man meets Star Wars they mightve done better.
ULTIMOSPIDER - 8/3/2012, 7:58 PM
Holy shit , the thought of King Randor in the movie ? what a novel idea....Why the Fu.Ck wasn't King Randor in the first movie Dolph

Oh yeah cause it was SHIT.....75% of the movie takes place on earth...that is almost as bad as Batman only being in TDKR in costume for about 35 Minutes of a 2 hr 44 minute movie
hope420 - 8/3/2012, 9:46 PM
I can see him as King Randor! I just hope they stay away from earth and Courtney Cox this time!
hope420 - 8/3/2012, 9:50 PM
@darkmetal I remember the VCR case for the MOTU movie saying it was "Star Wars for the 80's" I was only 13 in 1987 and I remember seeing that and saying bullshit out loud at the video store. I got in trouble.
mikesinuman - 8/3/2012, 10:12 PM
it was the 80's the fx are not so hi-tech that time, and they are tight on the budget.^_^ hahahaha.
Robert - 8/3/2012, 10:12 PM
@yossarian -If you look at the comments (including mine) you will see that many people would love to see a new MOTU movie. Many of us grew up watch and enjoying MOTU, so this reboot is welcoming news. I can't wait!

New He-Man needs to be like mother[frick]ing Superman. Throwing big ass stones on the bad guys and kicking the shit out of big ass monsters.
Im fine if they would combine both Prince Adam and He-Man and forgot the secret identity thing (the power sword could still give him the powers) but i would prefer to see young Prince Adam to change himself into He-Man with the power sword.
Most influence they need to take from that 2002 series. Just make it little more darker. I want truelly spooky Skeletor.
JillValenfield - 8/4/2012, 3:35 AM
Dolph is so cool, he was awesome as punisher! Love that man!!!
Ichaos - 8/4/2012, 3:36 AM
Garbage. Just have it go direct to Blueray/DVD. Or if its worse than I fear.... Direct to SyFy
GeekOfKrypton - 8/4/2012, 9:23 AM
WHY???!!!!!

We need to STOP paying homage to actors that once played the leading role in superhero movies or any action movies for that matter.

So soon we forget .. THAT'S WHAT RUINED SUPERMAN RETURNS!!!! trying to copy Chris Reeves and such

SMH
TonyPaintball - 8/4/2012, 9:51 AM
I would accept Dolph as King Greyskull as they featured in the 2002 series. Just a flashback type scene would work for him. The newer cartoon did a good job explaining where the sword and greyskull got it's power and even why there is a huge chasm around the castle. If FILMED right it could make for a very good back story to tell people the mythology without an entire movie devoted to it.
