We've heard star Ryan Reynolds share his thoughts on the planned Deadpool movie recently, and now the film's two screenwriters talk. Speaking with Collider while promoting G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick talk about Fox's hesitation to greenlight Deadpool due to the script's hard R rated approach, which they say is the biggest hurdle in the film' development. Reese confirms that there is indeed test footage from Reynolds and director Tim Miller, and that it's great. "We have a phenomenal director in Tim Miller, who did about a 3-minute test for Fox, and Ryan came in to do the mo-cap for it and the voice. And it’s like the greatest three minutes ever. I look at the three minutes and I’m like, “That’s the movie, and it has to get made.” I think the biggest hurdle right now is convincing the-powers-that-be that it’s okay to have a hard-R rated movie within the Marvel Universe." Reese also says that a $50M budget is possible, which would account for lower ticket sales. He then states, "I think there just has to be a tolerance for the outlier. There has to be a tolerance for this one project that’s not like all the other Marvel projects."

Wernick weighs in, saying that the approach to Deadpool needs to be like other Marvel characters in order to make him stand out. "Iron Man was like that when it came out. Tony Stark and the hard drinking, fast-talking billionaire was very different from all the other Marvel characters. And look what it became. And we feel that way about Deadpool." Finally, Reese shares his thoughts on the script leaking and seeing fans' reactions. "The script leaked online in some bizarre way that we haven’t figured out, so it’s very easily findable out there. It’s pretty much you go on Google and type in “Deadpool script” and you’ll find it. Not to say people should be doing that because it certainly wasn’t something we anticipated or enjoyed in the moment, but the Deadpool fans who found it think that it’s right in the wheelhouse of what a Deadpool movie should be. And so again, we’re just fighting that uphill battle to convince people, and be positive."

KaneVonDoom - 3/25/2013, 11:13 AM
Unfortunately, Fox Execs aren't known for their decision making skills.
superotherside - 3/25/2013, 11:14 AM
Can someone send the script to me? I've never read it. Can't find it either.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 3/25/2013, 11:14 AM
Who cares if it hadr R, we deserve that, not every superhero movie is for kids. Superman, Cap and Spidey can't be R but Wolverine, Deadpool and Punisher have to be a hard R movie.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 3/25/2013, 11:15 AM
In a way Batman deserves an R rated movie too
WesleyGibson - 3/25/2013, 11:15 AM
Good stuff Paul.
DropAload - 3/25/2013, 11:17 AM
Where's that test footage?
Deadpool727 - 3/25/2013, 11:18 AM
The mention of mo-cap threw me off a little though
ItsNotASchooner - 3/25/2013, 11:36 AM
since this is at Fox, shouldn't Mark Miller be championing this and helping to push it through, seeing as how he's now the FOX Marvel movies over-seer? And based on his background and the kind of comics he writes, you'd think he'd be dying to see this get made. I have hope. Perhaps a fool's hope, but still, hope.
InfiniteMonkey - 3/25/2013, 11:38 AM
Let's just collectively keep talking about this movie and what might have been for another 20 years or so, or until the current powers that be dies.
darkknightmare2012 - 3/25/2013, 11:39 AM
make it happen .. come on fox grow a pair ..
BatsFan - 3/25/2013, 11:39 AM

There have already been Marvel movies that had R ratings!! Goodness look at Blade!
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 11:42 AM

FOX needs to stop being pussies and give us this movie!!! they can give us a Hard R rated Punisher movie which the 2nd was horrible but they cant give us a deadpool??...
thats bullshit....where does that make sense to give us a horrible punisher 2 movie that was Hard R rated but u cant give us a deadpool movie a movie ppl WANT to see...exactly not all comic movies are for kids...punisher..deadpool HAVE to be R rated...what about the movie Wanted? wasnt that rated R and isnt that a comic movie?? it was pretty hard R rated...i am pretty sure at least 75 percent of the comic book movie fans want to see a deadpool movie...

every1 should tweet to FOX studios telling them to stop being pussies n give us the movie...i atleast tweeted them 10 times already on like 5 different twitter pages saying give us the damn movie...
Darkknight23 - 3/25/2013, 11:43 AM

jerryblake - 3/25/2013, 11:48 AM
i think they will finally pull the plug out of this one.
RIP
KeefNCookies - 3/25/2013, 11:49 AM
Script wasnt bad except for the inclusion of Colossus, but nothing really stood out to me. I'm sure it'd be a fun ride though
antisocial - 3/25/2013, 11:49 AM
Did they forget the Blade series? Great movies, R rating, Not for little kids. They did well at the box office.
batpod0718 - 3/25/2013, 11:51 AM
CPT Obvious here; they are not green lighting this movie bc those R rated superhero movies didn't succeed finically. The studios and most of the parties involved in the finance department only have money centered as there main focus.
RPD - 3/25/2013, 11:52 AM
It's the R-rating, gotta be. FOX wants to make a killing...
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 11:53 AM
exactly....blade...punisher...wanted...all rated R...

and i agree FOX ppl are scared to try something NEW...no1 wants to keep seeing X-men movies...i gave up after X3...yet they are still making them...

same with DC in a way...they continue to give us the same hero movies with superman and batman...GL failed thx to the script...like i dont wanna keep seeing a batman n superman movie every other 10 years...give us something different..please!!

GIVE tHE PPL A DEADPOOL movie!!...this is like the only marvel movie i am really interested in seeing!! other than iron man 3 and avengers 2...
come on FOX stop being pussies...50 million for a budget is NOTHING!! the movie WILL indeed make its money back too!!
m0th3r - 3/25/2013, 11:57 AM
If the test footage looked great, im sure the idiots over at Fox Studios will pass.
2gold - 3/25/2013, 11:58 AM
Were the Fox executives the ones who decided Deadpool should be a mute with Mortal Kombat blades? If so, this movie has no chance in hell. And man, Ryan was already willing to come in and do the work? Come on man!
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 11:59 AM
yes the R movies didnt do well finically but deadpool def. will do good and make its money back and make more!!!....just give this a chance fox!! if it does turn out to do well very well i expect a sequel too!! but THIS MOVIE IS A MUST PLEASE!!!!!!

when is this meeting with FOX...and the director happening??
RPD - 3/25/2013, 12:01 PM
Here's the thing about the R-rating, though: When kids see the trailers, Deadpool being the bad-ass and wise-cracker he is, they're gonna want to go see it and won't be able to. That's gonna suck...
ThisIsHeavy - 3/25/2013, 12:04 PM
I remember when Raimi's SPider-Man was released; it was a 12 originally but A LOT of kids complained. It was around this time that the 12A rating was introduced.
papadac - 3/25/2013, 12:05 PM
They should Kickstarter this. If "Veronica Mars" fans can pony up almost $4 mil, then I'm sure Deadpool fans can raise a s**tload more than that. DK if we could get $50 mil, but I bet there'd be enough interest to get Fox's attention. A KS campaign will never happen because there are too many big corps involved between Marvel, Disney, Fox, etc. but a guy can dream, right?
MisterNiceGuy - 3/25/2013, 12:05 PM
Make it happen! Now!
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 12:05 PM
who cares...that sucks for the little kids...they will just have to wait til it comes on blu-ray for them...lol
ThisIsHeavy - 3/25/2013, 12:07 PM
Has anybody started a petition for Fox to green-light it?
ChubbyDeadpool - 3/25/2013, 12:14 PM
the test was probably for the opening scene - which is about the best part of the script. Very violent and fun and entertaining and full of Reynolds' smart @ss quips. I don't mind that Collosus plays such a big part it in, since he was underused in the X-films, and gives the script a cool good cop/bad cop vibe. Stan Lee, himself likes the idea of R rated Marvel films and talks very positively about the amount of money that Blade pulled in, as the first truly successful R rated CBM. I still love the script, and other than replacing Amy Winehouse with Snooki, needs very little tweeking, IMO. I'm still hopeful for this to be done.
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 12:17 PM
no but we shud start a petition for it...thats why i said i tweeted FOX/FOX studios like 10 times on like 5 of there accounts telling them to give us the damn movie...so maybe if we did that...idk
Ghostfire - 3/25/2013, 12:17 PM
This need to get made, ASAP! I just read the script, and its one of the funniest and most insane things ever. Fox needs to get their shit together!
LMB10 - 3/25/2013, 12:19 PM
@fettastic they already have a director, Tim Miller
ThisIsHeavy - 3/25/2013, 12:19 PM
^
Where exactly can I find the script? I've only managed to find extracts.
DEADPOOL
(to the thugs)
You're probably wondering. Why the red suit? It's so if you shoot me, you can't see me bleed.
(points to thug)
This guy has the idea. He wore the brown pants.
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 12:20 PM
Colossus....isnt he a x-men person??
is he bad or good? i dont think i can see him in the movie...if so i want him to be just like in the cartoon...
Gnyah123 - 3/25/2013, 12:22 PM
any1 know where we can find the script?? or what do we type in on google to look for it and waht link please??
TheBeard - 3/25/2013, 12:26 PM
