TDKR: Tom Hardy Initially Felt He Wasn't The Best Choice For Bane

From Hardy on his first impressions of portraying Bane:
When I first heard of Bane, I think, like a lot of people who aren't Batman-centric in a way, I didn't know who he was, so it had to be explained who he was, and then I looked at him and I saw his luchador mask and his way-tight wrestling pants and his huge muscles. I thought, 'He must have got the wrong man, because I can't play ... I don't play that.'

The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan(The Prestige, Inception) and stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway. The film will be unleashed upon audiences on the 20th of this month.

And you didn't play that Tom;) haha, no Bane is great in the movie, but I'll concede that it is not in any way the Bane from the comics aside from his brutality.
Tony93 - 7/19/2012, 11:59 AM
you got this Hans..
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/19/2012, 12:00 PM
Too add to Ror's comment, all the people who made the "midget Bane" jokes for the past year will look like complete fools when this comes out.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/19/2012, 12:05 PM
146 critics are Nolanites.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/19/2012, 12:06 PM

@Tony93, hahah, Hans is the [frick]ing man! He kills me in every interview, that dirty German.

"Tom Hardy Initially Felt He Wasn't The Best Choice For Bane"

He was not alone with that feeling. And yes, he is still a midget Bane. Like there are pygmy elephants and miniature dobermans.
Gmoney84 - 7/19/2012, 12:22 PM
His performance is one thing...his appearance in the film is another. He may play the part well but he looks NOTHING like the comic book character. Me, I'd rather have a strong performance than a spot on appearance.
hope420 - 7/19/2012, 12:23 PM
Wow Harry's review just ripped this movie apart on AICN! Good thing I don't always agree with him.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/19/2012, 12:26 PM
@Gmoney84 agreed, and I think he's closer to his comic book counterpart in terms of personality.
worldbreaker - 7/19/2012, 12:26 PM
i dont think there's anyone close to the size of comicbook bane with the acting ability to pull that off. i would've liked to see comicbbok bane but that would only work with CGI and wouldn't fit these movies at all. he plays a good villain, he just isn't THAT bane
KingEmperor - 7/19/2012, 12:27 PM
I believe in Tom Hardy.
GoILL - 7/19/2012, 12:27 PM
Surprised the usual crap that goes on in TDKR comments haven't been made...yet.
ralfinader - 7/19/2012, 12:27 PM
@Hope420 - yeah, I read that. I also read his positive review of Ghost Rider 2, guy has some [frick]ed up tastes in movies. But the spoilers he revealed were enlightening at least.
worldbreaker - 7/19/2012, 12:29 PM
and with hulk in avengers and lizard in spider-man, it would be kind of lame to have a hulk-out in all 3 CBMs this year
RamonSuarez - 7/19/2012, 12:29 PM
I think Tom Hardy's initial instinct was correct.
Superheromovies2000 - 7/19/2012, 12:30 PM
9:05 AM & 12:55 PM tomorrow!! Yup I'm seeing it twice back to F'N back!!!

@Superheromovies2000, Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
Emanuel14 - 7/19/2012, 12:41 PM
his right ear is RED
PINO - 7/19/2012, 12:42 PM
I'm sure he'll be great. I still would have liked to see Javier Bardem as Bane though.
IgnurRant - 7/19/2012, 12:45 PM
Bane was originally depicted as Batman's physical equal, who manipulated Batman into exhaustion and beat him at his weakest point. He was taller than Batman but never towering.

Hell, Venom doesnt even increae the users size, that was only added when Bane became more a hired muscle gimmick. Originally, Venom only gave the user increased strength and stanima. Batman even used it himself for a time before he detoxed.
PapaMidnight - 7/19/2012, 12:49 PM
I confirm Gmoney84 comment.
otakux3r0 - 7/19/2012, 12:50 PM
This movie is gonna rock! I am seeing it tonight at midnight!
OnLeatherWings - 7/19/2012, 12:53 PM
i cant believe some people on this site would sacrifice a characters performs and acting just so they can see a character look exactly like it does on screen as in the comics. Quality of quantity. what i love about nolans movies and what captures the attention of the audiences the most is these actors performances and there character relationships with one another. outside this CMB community very few people actually know who bane is or what he looks like so whats the point. it would look ridiculous to have a guy in a wrestling mask and skin tight spandex suit lol. as for the size i havent really heard any reviewers complain about that, not a big deal.
hope420 - 7/19/2012, 12:55 PM
@ralfinader Hahaha I remember him saying that. I made it 30 min into that movie and had to shut it off. I bet if AICN was out when Steel came out Harry would have given it a good review.:)
Greengo - 7/19/2012, 12:55 PM
@IM53 I'm gonna troll the shit outta that chat

j/k :)
IronManFTW - 7/19/2012, 1:05 PM
I'm sure he'll do well, but it had better be the greatest performance to ever grace the screen for all the changes they made to Bane. Enough with the realism. Ra's al ghul is going to be like 4 inches taller than Bane. Taller than Bane!
IronManFTW - 7/19/2012, 1:06 PM
There was also no reason they couldn't have put a little effort into using camera tricks or cgi to enhance the look of the character.
MitchConner - 7/19/2012, 1:06 PM
Who cares?
Nubase - 7/19/2012, 1:07 PM
lets wait till GOTG comes out and see if that racoon looks exactly like the comics.

ralfinader - 7/19/2012, 1:07 PM
@hope420 - LOL, holy shit, I bet he would have.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/19/2012, 1:07 PM
@IM53

I will be there man, you can count on it!

You guys should see what tom hardy look like now, there a pic of while he's in london promoting the movie and he is skinny as hell!, cos he has lost all the bulk he put on for bane and now in mad max mode.

If l see a comment saying he doe not look like mad max mel gibson, that poster should be banned for life!

I am looking forward to Fury Road. So glad Gibson is done, really haven't seen Hardy in anything yet, but not worried.
chochi73 - 7/19/2012, 1:26 PM
OMG I hope he doesn't talk this much during the movie.
