So far, the Punisher has been in three films, all of which didn't sit well with fans. At Marvel’s Comic-Con panel, Kevin Feige revealed that they’re doing it again. Feige says that the character is under the welcoming roof of Marvel Studios now and they want to take their own shot at it. Specifically he said he’s hoping for a “Frank Castle” movie shortly.

Later during a roundtable interview for Thor, Feige addressed the larger issue of Marvel character cross-overs on the big screen. "They've done it in the comics occasionally so you never know. We'd like to do an alliance between other Marvel characters behind other doors," he said.

But added, "We'll see. It's always a pleasant surprise when it happens but there's lots of legal, contractual red tape. They will be few and far between. Awhile."

A “Frank Castle” movie. Interesting.

GR8 news!!!

But [frick] a sequel to crappy WARZONE!

Bring back TOM JANE, epic PUNISHER!

(Still think its better for a HBO series tho)
DDD - 7/25/2010, 6:44 AM
A real R rated bloody disgusting, no camp,
vicious instrument of retribution would be great!
A REAL PUNISHER!!!! DONE THE REAL MARVEL MAX WAY!!!!
CaptainAmerica - 7/25/2010, 6:48 AM
Cool, let's hope Sony and Fox are willing to work with Marvel for epic cross overs :)
Dynamo - 7/25/2010, 6:49 AM
Is this the most rebooted character or what?
CaptainAmerica - 7/25/2010, 6:51 AM
Agree with Leeee, bring back sexy Jane :)
DDD - 7/25/2010, 6:52 AM
Well, we do got Bruce banner, Dyanamo!
lol
ElBicho - 7/25/2010, 6:53 AM
As long as it's the rated R violence and gore!
JoshWilding - 7/25/2010, 6:57 AM
Excellent find Destroyer! :) This is one of the best bits of news to come out of Comic Con IMO! It would be beyond awesome to see Punisher become a part of the movie universe Marvel Studios have created! And the thought of them doing deals to bring characters from other studios in as well is truly EPIC!!!
LEEE777 - 7/25/2010, 7:13 AM
CAP @ ; D

JOSH @ Yeah EPIC news! I'm not surprised tho after that sh1te stain called WARZONE, that was as bad as BORIGINS! : P
InTylerWeTrust - 7/25/2010, 7:20 AM
Eh, I would have much rather seen someone like Daredevil revert back to Marvel than Punisher. Not really all that interested in another Punisher movie.
jazzman - 7/25/2010, 7:32 AM
i agree with u leee777 Tom Jane was good a Punisher

but they most likely going with a different actor i go for Gerard Butler.

LEEE777 - 7/25/2010, 7:34 AM
telavizion @ I know what ya mean, good ol' DOLPH's was more a 80's action movie than anything else, still it had more heart than WAR ZONE! : P

JAZZ @ Cool lol, but BUTLER for JUDGE DREDD! ; D

Damn did you like GAMER? Saw that two nights ago for the first time on DVD, it was horrible tho BUTLER was alrite in it, pity we'll probably never see him as KRAVEN.
JoshWilding - 7/25/2010, 7:42 AM
LEE: I actually quite enjoyed Gamer! It was crap, lol, but good fun I thought! And hey, I also enjoyed Punisher: Warzone! Yeah, that was also crap but Ray Stevenson was a great Punisher! Damn...maybe my tastes in movies just sucks! :P

TYLER: Yeah, an announcement regarding DD or the Fantastic Four would have been a lot more interesting! Still, at least this is ONE more character back with Marvel Studios - hopefully, one of those I mention (among others) will be next!
lc - 7/25/2010, 7:44 AM
gamer was the most boring [frick]ing thing i ever saw in my life and that saying something@lee!
GUNSMITH - 7/25/2010, 7:48 AM
BACK IN THE DAY THIS WAS THE ISH...

..I SAY BRING IT BACK TO THAT..I MISS THE BIG BUFF GUY ACTION SHOOT EM UP MOVIE, BRUTAL AND FULL OF ACTION, GO BACK TO THE SWARTZENAGER, STALLONE DAYS WHERE IT WAS COOL TO SEE A BIG GUY GO OUT AND JUST GORRILLA EFF ALL THE BAD GUYS IN BRUTAL OR CREATIVE WAYS, MAYBE A LITTLE BAD ASS SOLDIER SMART STUFF WITH SOME REALLY SLICK, "OH DAM I DIDNT SEE THAT ONE COMING" KINDA STUFF. I KNOW ITS A BIT CLICHE, BUT HONESTLY WHEN I THINK OF PUNISHER, SEEING A BIG BUFF DUDE JUST TEAR INTO A MOB AND GET DIRTY AND BREAK SOME BONES, THATS PUNISHER TO ME..GET A NO NAME NEW GUY THAT CAN ACT BUT ALSO HAS THE MUSCLE TO BE INTIIDATING AND LOOK LIKE HE COULD SNAP AN ELEPHANT IN HALF WITH HIS BUTT CHEEKS..A BIG DUDE..
MisterJay - 7/25/2010, 7:48 AM
TOMAS JANE rulez!!!!!!!!!!!...........i hope they bring him back...and give us a epic adult mature and great punisher as this one...that movie was just...perfect jhon travolta thomas jane...dmm...i was hoping to see something like that in warzone but... :/ ...i hope they do it all right...:D
NightAvenger - 7/25/2010, 7:49 AM
Awesome news!
I say bring back Jane but in a rebooted world.
eleven11 - 7/25/2010, 7:51 AM
maybe they can do the crossover in the short films before a movie like they said they will do earlier
Twenty23Three - 7/25/2010, 7:55 AM
I am really happy that the Punisher is now back with Marvel. Simply because if we are ever lucky enough to get a civil war movie I loved the small part he played in the story.
THABATMAN - 7/25/2010, 7:55 AM
cool! The Marvel movie universe is looking better and better! I wonder if it will be a complete reboot, or something like they did with Warzone
P862010 - 7/25/2010, 8:12 AM
The problem with Punisher is he has not made good money in theaters at all

Punisher(2004)- WW - $54,700,105
Punisher:War Zone(2008)- WW - $10,100,036

and the movie going pubic only seems him as a guy who wants revenge and nothing more

a guy who wants revenge on his family gets old real fast.I personally think they need to go in a different direction with him.
Zombie137 - 7/25/2010, 8:12 AM
I loved Jane as Castle, i think he nailed it quite well. Alot better than Dolph and Stevenson.

A rebooted world with Jane in New York city as the Punisher would be amazing. Think of the other characters they could introduce, low level characters. AWESOMENESS!!!
jazzman - 7/25/2010, 8:13 AM
@LEEE777

Gamer was alright for a straight to DVD movie would not watch it in the cinema lol.

Zombie137 - 7/25/2010, 8:15 AM
2004 punisher was made on a budget of 13 million dollars. For it to have made 54 million worldwide is a great success. It was a awesome movie, for what it was made for.
DetBullock - 7/25/2010, 8:19 AM
I'd prefer that Marvel studios would make a movie based only on the MAX series, not necessarily gorey and ultra-violent like Warzone but more sober and ground-rooted without grotesque bad guys like Jigsaw.
P862010 - 7/25/2010, 8:37 AM
zombie it was made for 33 million and made 54 million that is a bomb

not ad bad as warzone's 35 million budget and made 10 million
BIGBMH - 7/25/2010, 8:42 AM
It's great that Marvel has reclaimed one of it's characters. Hopefully they can do a good job, but I really think they should wait a while. Another reboot would be too soon.
LEEE777 - 7/25/2010, 8:44 AM
Yeah plz not another ORIGIN movie lol.

Zombie137 @ Exactly dude! ; )

Lc @ Yeah lol! ; D

JOSH @ Yeah RAY was okay man, its just the whole rest of the mess that wasn't, nah I thought GAMER was crap,: D original idea for a film though.

JAZZ @ Yeah it did feel straight 2 DVD ya right!

NIGHTAVENGER @ Cool thinking!

GUNSMITH @ Now that mini series by MIKE ZECK is what they should have (based) made for PUNISHER 2, rather than WARZONE, awesome mini series!
HELLZ YEAH @ JMAN!!!
JustinMSalvato - 7/25/2010, 8:44 AM
Scary, I agree with Lee. Bring back Jane.

Upupandaway - 7/25/2010, 8:45 AM
@DetBullock- Yep psycho mobsters and human traffickers is the way to go.
LEEE777 - 7/25/2010, 8:45 AM
Jahozafat @ OH YEAH!!!! ; )

Very cool pics!
skullboy - 7/25/2010, 8:49 AM
I really like Punisher War Zone and think they shoulda made it like that in 2004. Ray Stevenson makes Thomas Jane look like a bitch.
AverageCitizen99 - 7/25/2010, 8:50 AM
@Destroyer14
Epic grab! It's great to hear that we'll be getting another Punisher film, this time by the people who made him. :D
Cattigan619 - 7/25/2010, 8:50 AM
I agree 100% on what LEEE said. Bring Tom Jane back, he's awesome as The Punisher
P862010 - 7/25/2010, 9:04 AM
jeffery dean morgan would be a good punisher even tho he was the comedian

jane is too much of a pretty boy
Sortis - 7/25/2010, 9:06 AM
Bring back Tom Jane!
Simonsonrules - 7/25/2010, 9:07 AM
@Gunsmith...that Zeck cover is a classic!
Zombie137 - 7/25/2010, 9:09 AM
@ P862010

I know that Boxofficemojo.com says the 2004 Punisher movie was made for but its wrong. On the Directors cut Jonathan Hensleigh states that the studio put out into the public that the movie was made for 33 million dollars, when it fact it was just a little over 13 million dollars.

on average when a movie triples its budget its deemed a success.

13 x 3 = 39 million dollars

The Tom Jane movie made 4 times its budget.

There were two reasons it failed.

1 John Travolta.
2 Not in New York City.
batfan39 - 7/25/2010, 9:14 AM
Jane really did it for me... They set up such a great series and then nothing!!!
They captured him perfectly... the tortured soul who's doing what has to be done!!! War Zone was a cartoony bloodbath.

I don't want to talk about the other one.
NERO - 7/25/2010, 9:15 AM
Maybe this time we'll see Frank done right. Go for a period piece set in NYC circa the bad old days, based on an Ennis plot or script, and either bring back Jane or cast a really good actor to replace him. Ray was decent as Frank, but now that he's part of the Thor franchise I don't see him being asked back for Punisher.
Shaman - 7/25/2010, 9:27 AM
I've always felt that a mix of both Jane's and Stevenson's Punisher would have made the better film, but as a stand alone film, i prefered Jane's family drama over Ray's blood bath cartoon as batfab39 would say. And until Marvel proves me wrong at the box office, i still say the character won't sell to the average movie going audience at all. I just hope they do prove me wrong.
marvel72 - 7/25/2010, 9:28 AM
i hated the thomas jane punisher movie nothing like the punisher origin.
i liked punisher warzone guns, violence & proper origin the only downside incredibly crappie acting.
what marvel should do is not excactly a sequel, but a crossover movie that includes the daredevil reboot & maybe a ghost rider movie as well.
that could rekindle intrest in the punisher franchise.
THABATMAN - 7/25/2010, 10:03 AM
I agree with @ deadpool, but they should work on Daredevil first then
KeithM - 7/25/2010, 10:07 AM
Why are people calling for already proven failures in the role to return?

I preferred Stevenson as the Punisher myself - he was far more convincing than the simply too good looking and slight Jane (good actor though I think he is), but if it's a fresh new slate then any old baggage/stench of failure associated with any of the previous actors must go too.

The villains are where they've screwed up most (apart from plot, script and shoddy direction ofc). Travolta was a joke and Jigsaw even more so (what was the otherwise-excellent-in-everything-else-he's-been-in Dominic West thinking?).

If anyone can do it, Marvel can, but I'm hoping they decide to go the TV route rather than films this time. Imo Frank needs an awful lot of character development to work - and TV allows that much better than movies.
blueballs - 7/25/2010, 10:11 AM
TV is probably best for this character or even a supporting role in a film instead of a lead character.
W4RDude87 - 7/25/2010, 10:14 AM
Here's my oppinion on all three Punisher movies.
The Pinisher(1984)-Gotta admit I really enjoyed this movie, cause of all the action, and the cool ways the Punisher killed people.Story was weak action was good, and Dolph as the Punisher was okay to me.

The Punisher(2004)-This wasn't a very good Punisher movie to me, it would've been a lot better if they changed the name of the movie and the names of the characters, then it would've been an awesome revenge flick. What I really hated about the 04 movie was that it looked like it had a budget of only 5 million dollars, when the budget was something like 30 million, it looked cheap and lame.Jane was a good Punisher, I really liked him, I wouldn't mind if he returned as the Punisher, he's still interested in being Frank Castle again.

The Punisher WarZone(2008)-This IMO was the best Punisher movie, great action, awesome blood and gore, decent story line, and cool characters.Ray Stevensen IMO gave the best Punisher performance yet he was cold, dark, and really looked like a broken hearted man with nothing to lose.My favorite scene with Ray is when he visits his family's grave, man that sequence was so well done.

And if there is another Punisher movie I just hope that they stay true to his origins, and I hope that it will be rated R a PG-13 Punisher movie would be very fricking lame!
superotherside - 7/25/2010, 10:15 AM
hmmm... punisher films r sooo... idk i take spiderman's side to punisher, "ur gun's don't solve anything."
countrymadness - 7/25/2010, 10:17 AM
jane does a good punisher but the scripts for the other 3 sucked the first one suckd the second one wasn't the punisher it was the revenger and the third was blood and guts but no good story :(
W4RDude87 - 7/25/2010, 10:20 AM
Also my choices for the Punisher would be either.
-Viggo Mortensen(A History of Vilonce, Eastern Promises)
-Gerard Butler(Gamer, 300)
-or bring back Ray Stevensen.
-or Bring back Thomas Jane.
golden123 - 7/25/2010, 10:22 AM
I like this tv route yall are talking about but not a full fledge series makee it a Mini series as LEEE777 said.
