While making the rounds to discuss Attack the Block, the enterprising journalists of CVG (Computer and VideoGames) hit Joe Cornish with some Halo and Ant-Man questions. Here's what he had to say:

It was previously reported that script features a time skip, starting with Henry Pym in the '60s and then fast forwards to modern times, focusing on Scott Lang. After numerous re-writes, it's unclear as to whether this synopsis remains intact. Further clouding the direction of the Ant-Man movie is the fact that Kevin Feige in an interview with Collider, previously stated that Ant-Man was originally intended to be Professor Selvig's mystery friend not Bruce Banner:

Feige: That scene is in the movie. Literally the only thing we took out were the words “Hank Pym”. It was when Selvig, Darcy, and Jane are on the roof and S.H.I.E.L.D. has just taken all of their stuff. Darcy is complaining about her laptop and Jane is going, “Who the hell are these guys anyway?” Selvig then tells a story, which is clearly alluding to Bruce Banner, that he knew a gamma scientist and this thing happened and S.H.I.E.L.D. came up, which he had never heard of again. Selvig may or may not have all of his facts straight on that, but those are the rumors that go around the science world there. He goes, “I have a friend who has had experiences with these people. Let me email him.” That friend is Hank Pym. But we took out “Hank Pym” because it felt like, “Banner! Hank!” We were just like, “Enough.”

In response to Cornish's Rolling Thunder idea, a movie that's shot all from one angle, scrolling from left-to-right sounds awesome, lol. Well, we know Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have delivered the script to Marvel. Looks like all we're waiting for is Kevin Feige to give the green light. Speaking of which, to read up on all the potatoes in the Marvel cooking pot, click here.

Edgar Wright plans to direct an action film for Marvel Studios with some humorous elements, insisting that Ant-Man will not be a comedy like Fantastic Four or a spoof. The script has been written by Wright and Joe Cornish, who plan to include Henry Pym and Scott Lang as major characters, with Pym as Ant-Man in the 1960s in Tales to Astonish style, and a flash-forward to Lang as Ant-Man's successor in modern day.

If they go for a comedy tone, a great way to end an Ant-Man film would be to have him discover the Pym-Particles work the other way too, and have him become a giant and destroy whatever building he's standing in (like his house, his lab or perhaps a SHIELD building)
BooYah - 9/27/2011, 4:48 PM
The guy who wrote Attack The Block wrote Ant-Man?!?
Attack The Block was praised by critics and Edgar Wright is great at adapting comics to movies like he did with Scott Pilgrim. I'm looking forward to this now.

An Ant-Man movie will have to really rock for him to be accepted by a wider audience! Iron Man and Thor were successful endeavors for second tier character. Most people have never heard of Ant-Man. And for people who are unfamiliar with him "Ant-Man" sounds silly. I hope they will begin to lay a foundation for Ant-Man and Black Panther's entry into the Marvel Movieverse somewhere within the Avenger movie.

Like the dude in Braveheart would say, "some men are bigger than others"

Then his father says "your mom's been talking about me!"

Who is going to sit through a boring ass Ant man movie? Seriously.

kitboy33 - 9/27/2011, 6:20 PM
I think Ant-man as an espionage movie could rock. Think of all the places he could go, and the things he'd be able to do.
Personally, I'm looking forward to it.
Ace101 - 9/27/2011, 6:56 PM
@Moonwalker1991 me cause it be an awesome movie. cant wait.
JohnTom88 - 9/27/2011, 7:56 PM
If Captain America series introduces Hydra as the main terrorist group, Ant-Man got Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM) as the terrorist group.

Hank pym is also one of the EMH smartest fellas, plus he can communicate with certain insects and to make them do his bidding, and since has when changing size been corny. jus watch that vid Spidey91 posted. im more interested in hank pyms pscological/ ethical aspects what with the creation of ultron and all that.
Vital - 9/27/2011, 11:35 PM
@Illwill, so? Doesn't mean they couldn't make you like it. Don't you like being pleasantly surprised? Take Star Trek as a prime example of low expectations being blown away by a good movie/script.
Foxpaw - 9/28/2011, 12:25 AM
Meh, I would have let it stick. I'd say 80% of the Thor audience aren't Marvel fans anyway - which is the whole idea - so putting in "Hank Pym" there would have gone over the heads of many viewers, and only those who know the comic book universe would know what he was talking about. They would have put it in a comic book or animated show, why not in the movie. Oh well. Another time.
Orphix - 9/28/2011, 1:38 AM
There was no "clouding the direction of antman" in Thor.

Selvig tells the story of Banner who 'disappeared'. And then he says he has another friend who he can email who has had dealings with SHIELD. This other friend was originally named as Pym.

Then Darcy reminds Selvig that his laptop has been taken.
Orphix - 9/28/2011, 1:41 AM
Oh - and here is a fan-made trailer for antman on youtube. Nicely put together (considernig there is no footage currently) and shows the potential and excitment that could be generated for the project.

Bring on the Rolling Thunder movie!!! He has great taste in old school games.
Mastyrwerk - 9/28/2011, 7:24 AM
For those nay-saying the coolness of Pym, check out Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series. GiAnt-Man is awesome! So versatile; and if you have one, you have to have the other- Wasp needs to be in there too!
toekneemango - 9/28/2011, 10:49 PM
I still can't see Ant-Man doing well in theatres. Storyline wise, I could only picture it being about AIM as the main villains (with George Tarleton/MODOK as the head of it, but not as a disembodied giant head floating in a container like the comics, as nobody would take that seriously)...but even then, having him control ants is going to come off stupid on film, and having him grow huge or shrink would be tricky for action sequences (who can fight him when he's really small or too big?)

They'd also have to introduce Ultron and set him up for a sequel, I'd think.

Then there's the name issue. He doesn't have any names that would be marketable, as 'Ant-Man' might sound more like a spoof to the average audience, as would 'Giant-Man', 'Goliath', 'Yellowjacket', 'Scientist Supreme'...and it wouldn't be easy to market a film just called "Hank Pym" or "Henry Pym".

It's just too tough to be able to successfully pull off in my mind. But if they can figure out a way to do it, then by all means, I'll go see it and hope for the best.
