Is Marvel Working On An Inhumans Movie Behind The Scenes?

Recently, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Marvel's Kevin Feige about The Avengers and post-Avengers plans. It seems like Marvel will indeed be looking to explore the far reaches of space...

Well, this one seems to have come out of nowhere. We had a vague rumor earlier this year that an Inhumans movie was in development at Marvel. However, it was from an unusual source, not typically known for breaking exclusive news and offered such vague details that we counseled you to take the news with salt at the ready. However, the venerable Entertainment Weekly has also stated that an Inhumans movie is in the works so I think we can save our grains of salt for another day.

Just recently, I covered all the projects Marvel studios currently has in development and where the Marvel Cinematic Universe may go after the Avengers (Marvel Studios 2014 Plans. Who, What, And Just Cause....). However, the recent EW article on The Avengers , (which you can read here) listed a movie project that I didn't cover because there wasn't any news about scripts, potential directors, or casting. That property is of course, The Inhumans.

I think it's safe to say that this isn't wild speculation from EW as they had direct access to Kevin Feige, the man who decides which Marvel characters will be adapted for the big screen. The rumor back in March was that Marvel was currently shopping the project to writers and nothing new has been reported since. However, two rumors I heard not long after was that Joss Whedon (Serenity) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) were both approached to gauge their interest in writing/(also directing for Whedon) The Inhumans. Of course, Whedon accepted the monumental task of directing The Avengers so I think it's safe to rule him out at this point. And Straczynski, who helped write Thor, was probably busy with World War Z. I'm pretty sure Marvel approached a ton of writers to "gauge interest" but it appears they definitely are looking in the right direction, for someone experienced with cosmic properties.

Whomever, Marvel ultimately hires will have a pretty difficult task writing for Black Bolt, a character who can't speak (unless he wants to kill you).

The Inhumans are a fictional race of superhumans, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This race appears in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics and exists in that company's shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe.

The comic book series of this name have usually focused more specifically on the adventures of the Inhuman Royal Family, and many people associate the name "Inhumans" with this particular team of super-powered beings. (However, recent series have looked at the "new generation" of the Inhuman society.)

The Inhumans first appeared in Fantastic Four #45 (December 1965), though members Medusa and Gorgon appeared in earlier issues of that series (#36 and #44, respectively). Their home, the city of Attilan, was first mentioned years earlier, in a "Tuk the Caveboy" story written and drawn by Jack Kirby that appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The city was described as the home of a race that was evolutionarily advanced when human beings were still in the caveman era.

i'd be happy with either guardians of the galaxy or the inhumans, but marvel should also consider nova.
MovieMaster - 9/30/2011, 9:02 AM
hmm, just saw this on io9 and it is rather odd that they would go ahead with inhmans and guardians of the galaxy instead of doctor strange or black panther
nuck82 - 9/30/2011, 9:09 AM
love me some black bolt, idk if they would have there own movie, but they can be in with the FF movie
NOLANITE - 9/30/2011, 9:34 AM

blvdnoise - 9/30/2011, 9:34 AM
BRING ON ANTMAN! NO MENTION OF DR. STRANGE??
greenlanternsector2814 - 9/30/2011, 9:35 AM
I could see a Nova movie w/Chris Pine portraying him. That's Marvel's version of Green Lantern and he's a pretty cool character.
dahamma - 9/30/2011, 9:36 AM
Marvel72, I totally Agree A Nova movie would be a dream come true, then again I said that about Iron Man,...and Thor....and Captain america!! maybe it'l happen! :D

HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
SageMode - 9/30/2011, 9:42 AM
@GreenLanternSector:
Chris Pine would be an excellent choice for Richard Rider/Nova. It would be really funny if a Nova movie outdoes the Green Lantern movie (which i guarantee wouldnt be very difficult), giving the similarities in the origin concepts.

An Inhumans movie would be awesome. as long as Marvel Studios is involved. And Marvel should focus more on making movies for their more "important" and "interesting" characters. IMO
BigTodd71 - 9/30/2011, 9:42 AM
clearly they are going to set the stage in Avengers for the Alien Races since the Inhumans are of the Kree, and which Gaurgian are they going with? Would like to see the more current roster and include Rocket Raccoon!!!
HelaGood - 9/30/2011, 9:47 AM
i dont think i could tell you how excited i would be for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! much more than a deadpool or daredevil or ant man movie!!!!

Black Bolt would be SICK!!!

Lert - 9/30/2011, 9:48 AM

dailycomicsfix - 9/30/2011, 9:49 AM

Hodmadod - 9/30/2011, 9:51 AM
btw Crossover i love your icon.
HelaGood - 9/30/2011, 9:57 AM
they could brand it as the Marvel Knights and make it an R movie...
dailycomicsfix - 9/30/2011, 10:02 AM
@Nomis, why would you fear that? Marvel has a pretty good track record at keeping to the comic continuity. There's no guarantee they will but there's no reason to believe they won't.

I really want to MARVEL to go COSMIC all the way. Loved Thor, and i liked the Silver Surfer, the little that was seen.

So, Marvel could continue this route and bring on the CELESTIALS and the Eternals.

Jack Kirby "astronaut gods" and Jim Starlin "spacey" comics would bring a massive wave of regular book readers, who not necessarily follow comics, but UFO books and etc.
SageMode - 9/30/2011, 10:05 AM
Come On Marvel, get a Nova movie going.....

Mk616 - 9/30/2011, 10:05 AM
Blackbolt + Lockjaw = Awesome!
80sFace - 9/30/2011, 10:07 AM
The Inhumans could be a Pixar animated movie, but live action I don't see.

Not counting characters already introduced I'd like to see, in order:

1. Dr. Strange
2. Iron Fist
3. Black Panther
4. Ant-Man
5. Luke Cage
6. Guardians
7. Werewolf By Night
HelaGood - 9/30/2011, 10:09 AM
NOVA would be awesome too!!!
HelaGood - 9/30/2011, 10:10 AM
i agree! would love to see a lot more celestial Marvel heroes on the big screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jjmeylar - 9/30/2011, 10:22 AM
If they do it: I hope that it's based on the 12 issue series! That thing was amazing!
SCURVYDOG619 - 9/30/2011, 10:25 AM
Pixar + Rocket Racoon=License to print money...
Neo3 - 9/30/2011, 10:33 AM
March? Didn't work on the Avengers start in April? And before that pre-work. So if Whedon was mentioned it is possible.
captquirk - 9/30/2011, 10:38 AM
I'd like to see a well done Inhumans... keyword well done :)
HelaGood - 9/30/2011, 10:38 AM
i think Pixar should do this movie:

and throw in this guy too...

Jericho - 9/30/2011, 10:38 AM
aw this is amazing news!!! bring on all the marvel characters and put them in films!!!
BillyBatson1000 - 9/30/2011, 10:39 AM
BRAGGING RIGHTS! I've been speculating on an Inhumans movie for ages. I would LOVE to see it faithful to the original concept. And of course - it has to have a GOOD PLOT. That is the MAIN reason comic book movies are not making the expected bucks. It's not enough to expect comic book fans to continually turn out - JUST because they have a vested interest in the characters.
Neo3 - 9/30/2011, 10:46 AM
In the article did EW forget about CAP2 and Dr. Strange. Are these their next three movies?
PoPcornDude - 9/30/2011, 10:55 AM
if they get the rights for Fanatsic Four this movie would be PERFECT !!!
question:
where did this guy come from ???
rocket raccoon ??
first time I'm seeing him....
brittaniethekid - 9/30/2011, 10:55 AM
Absolutely no interest in Guardians of the Galaxy or Inhumans. There are way more interesting characters and story lines that aren't aliens or in space.
kriswone - 9/30/2011, 11:25 AM
Rocket and Groot, Firelord, Nova, All the Guardians, Thanos, Kree, Shi'ar, bring the Galaxy some love, the stories are enthralling!!
HeyVanity - 9/30/2011, 11:25 AM
Looks like they're steering toward Annihilation doesn't it? Sweet baby jesus, I hope so. Just hope they can get the rights to the FF back soon so that Galactus and the Surfer can be a part of it. We need a Nova movie first, but just imagine marvel putting together an epic Annihilation trilogy. I can't think of anything better.
plasticman - 9/30/2011, 11:28 AM
I am totally down with the idea of an Inhumans movie but I also think it would be great to see a Nova movie that shows DC really how they should have handled Green Lantern.

Best possibly movie ever...ROM!!! BRING BACK ROM!!!!
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 9/30/2011, 11:29 AM
I smell something......It smells like...like...EPICNESS!!!!!!!
I definitley agree that Marvel should go cosmic ALL the way!! Imagine the different plots and storylines that Marvel Studios can use to create movies. Nova, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Silver Surfer (when they get back the rights for him), Celestials, Captain Marvel, the Krees, the Skrulls, etc.

This is a childhood dream come true for me and other Marvel fans!! Thank you, Lord!!!

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 9/30/2011, 11:35 AM
Oh, I almost forgot about Thanos, the Shi'ar Empire, Galactus and his heralds, Beta Ray Bill, and a whole lots more of cosmic characters and beings.

This feels like Christmas, getting all kinds of goodies and treats from Marvel!! :)
