The Avengers is a team of superheroes, appearing in magazines published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963), and was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist / co-plotter Jack Kirby, following the trend of super-hero teams after the success of DC Comics with the Justice League.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based upon the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders. The Avengers tells the story of Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., who recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August.

The Avengers is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012 in the United States.

When you take a close look at the iron man suits from movie 1 to avengers, the suit in the first movie is actually the best looking one.

Definitely the best trailer I've seen in a very, very long time. Worth keeping me awake practically the whole night, and when I slept I kept dreaming about it.

Is it just me or does it seem like Loki is using the mind gem on the team, at times?

I look at the images & I'm almost in total disbelief. Besides Batman & Superman, the idea of comic book movies were more or less scoffed at. I was a kid/teen throughout the 90s & I always fantasized what some comic books would look like as movies. I am so so grateful have this. Some are hit or miss, but overall it's a great time to be alive.

Not really much to see of the Hulk except that extreme close-up head shot. I wanted to know if he had the shiney zuchinni skin and Popeye arms of the last film or something a bit closer to the first.

Iron-Man's armor looks like he has hips for childbearing. What's up with that? The tall legging and wide hips look like the armor was built for somebody's mama.

PeterDarker, Disney does NOT own Paramount.

When Disney bought Marvel, Marvel already had an agreement in place for Paramount to distribute its next few pictures, and The Avengers was among them.

Also, the Disney Pictures logo is indeed on other films besides "kiddie movies", depending upon what you mean by that phrase. The Pirates of the Caribbean pictures carry the Disney Pictures logo, as was Tron:Legacy, Prince of Persia, Alice in Wonderland, and Secretariat.
