Justice League

Coming to comic book stores around the country on May 5, Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner - and now we've got a first look at the until-now top secret cover to the DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 FCBD EDITION, illustrated by legendary artist and DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee. This cover will be featured on all customized editions and standard copies alike.

In addition to the cover, Lee will also be illustrating five pages for the comic book's interior, including a four-page JUSTICE LEAGUE gatefold to accompany a brand new story by New York Times bestselling writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

Lee also provided custom art for the Free Comic Book Day t-shirt, featuring his redesign of the JUSTICE LEAGUE for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 in an homage to a classic piece by José Luis García-López.

Also debuting the first week in May is JUSTICE LEAGUE VOLUME ONE: ORIGIN, the hardcover volume collecting the first story arc of the flagship series for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. Written by Johns and illustrated by Lee, the story looks at the dawn of the age of superheroes, setting the tone for the historic company initiative.

TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 3/8/2012, 7:41 AM
Wow, Bats doesn't have the bladed Gauntlets anymore? Hmmm, Cool art, Lee is one of the aspiring rtists that made me get into graphic design, but beyond that, pass.
Maia87 - 3/8/2012, 7:45 AM
Wrong anatomies, terrible composition. Most overrated comic book artist.
MrBlueSky - 3/8/2012, 7:46 AM
Jim Lee's art - the only good thing about the shitfest that was All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder
JohnnyKrypton - 3/8/2012, 7:47 AM
@kostisfire

Nope
MarkJulian - 3/8/2012, 7:51 AM
@kostisfire

Yes, although the non mainstream titles are probably the best and aren't being promoted right.
RaleighAntrobus - 3/8/2012, 7:57 AM
@Maia87

Jim Lee's art knows no wrong.
Dedpool - 3/8/2012, 7:59 AM
NICE!!
JackBauer - 3/8/2012, 8:02 AM
Jim Lee's been my favorite artist ever since his first Unc. X-Men work, but he needs to do two things:

1. Get rid of the costume seams.

2. Give WW her blue panties and red boots back. The black just doesn't work.
theblaze - 3/8/2012, 8:05 AM
Good
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 8:08 AM
@ kostisfire if you like poor dialogue and dickish characters, yes
ShadowOfTheWeb - 3/8/2012, 8:13 AM
Bring back WW's pants
And give Supes the Earth 2 costume that looks kick ass
PaulRom - 3/8/2012, 8:28 AM
Been enjoying Johns' run on Justice League. It has some hit and miss dialogue from time to time, but otherwise it's excellent. Especially issues 1, 2 and 6.
davidbatmanfan - 3/8/2012, 8:32 AM
Nomis-Pandora can create guns with her powers.Check out the end of Justice League 6.Cant wait for this i love Jim Lee's art.
Natetrix79 - 3/8/2012, 8:37 AM
I.M.O. He drew the best Wolverine & Magneto in the bizznezz baby!
breakUbatman - 3/8/2012, 8:41 AM
Wow Superman's anatomy is messed up, what a torso
captainrogers - 3/8/2012, 8:50 AM
My only REALLY BIG issue with this piece is That WW's right forearm(and I guess the more i look at it her left as well)placement is HUGELY off.
She'd have to have EXTREMEly long upper arms for them to connect.
But its a decent Jim LEE piece.
KNIGHT3000 - 3/8/2012, 8:51 AM
If it weren't for Jim Lee, I would not like the look of the new 52
superotherside - 3/8/2012, 8:56 AM
Nice cover actually. I'm looking forward to this issue, especially because it's in modern day?

This is my biggest gripe about the New 52 is that when is everything happening? Batman seems to be about the same time as Action Comics, yet the GL books, WW, Superman, Batman TDK, Aquaman, Supergirl, Batgirl, etc. seem to all be happening in modern day.

They need to settle all their books in one time zone, it's way too confusing as it is now. :(
Flashito - 3/8/2012, 8:59 AM
@Maia:
I love when someone criticize JimLee´s art, buddy if you can do better please bedazzled us with your gift!!! You must be awesome!!!

@Knigth3000
Exactly Jim Lee is why I like the new 52!!!
GrayFox1025 - 3/8/2012, 9:09 AM
Wonder Woman has got some Thunda Thighs
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 9:16 AM
@Flashito yeah, that's a great argument "if you can't do better you can't criticize it". *rolls eyes*

Pandora is the way out of this cluster[frick] DCnU. Hope this Heroes Reborn Redux is over soon...
loki668 - 3/8/2012, 9:29 AM
@Maia:

You just keep scribbling with those crayons while denigrating the work of your betters. Yep. That should work out well. And remember; in order to be OVER-rated, you first have to be rated. As I don't see either Marvel or DC presenting your art.......there you go.

Lord Loki has spoken
ClarkFarley2012 - 3/8/2012, 9:37 AM
Jim Lee is the man!
thewolfx - 3/8/2012, 9:53 AM
those suits.. just arent his best
GUNSMITH - 3/8/2012, 9:59 AM
BATMAN WITH A ARMOR-ISH SUIT I CAN UNDERSTAND BUT SUPERMAN...I DUNNO IT'S NOT ARMOR BUT IT JUST LOOKS WEIRD WITH A COLLAR, DOES HE GET COLD FLYING SO HIGH?
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 10:03 AM
GUN shut up, Lee designed it and he can do no wrong!!!!!! High collar, seams everywhere, weird pointy sleeve thingie with s emblem shape, emblem shapes everywhere, that's great designing!! Plus, armor, of course Superman would wear armor. Lee said he should, so he should!!!
breakUbatman - 3/8/2012, 10:12 AM
That "like to see you do better" argument is lame, so I need to be able to program in order to want an edit button? Only good film makers can judge Ghost rider SOV?

So what qualifications do you have to have to praise something?
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 10:21 AM
@breakUbatman and you better be able to sing better than Kesha too... OK, that was a bad example...
LordHuck - 3/8/2012, 10:33 AM
That's the best Superman and Batman have ever looked. Wonder Woman looks good too but needs pants.

And yeah Lee has never been one to allow himself to be constrained by actual human anatomy when it comes to a character striking a pose.
LordHuck - 3/8/2012, 10:35 AM
When you trade punches with a guy like Darksied then you might want to be wearing highly advanced super Kyptonian body armor too.
hartley07 - 3/8/2012, 10:37 AM
Batman and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
WannabeSpiderMan - 3/8/2012, 10:46 AM
UGH. Pandora is going to use a hand-gun? **YAWN** I was hoping with the hype they were trying to build up that she'd have more interesting elements than THAT. If you are all mystical, powerful and god-like, why would you need a gun?
SteveRogersSon - 3/8/2012, 1:01 PM
IN-ACTION COMICS SUX AZZ!!!!
SteveRogersSon - 3/8/2012, 1:03 PM
P.S...Action Comics 7 was boss!

Of course only you would say that! X)

I love how Super Douche's little baby cape from issue 1 suddenly becomes this voluminous full cape..and what a crappy way to explain Brainiac and such a gimmie cheap way to get the suit...FAIL.
JackJNapier - 3/8/2012, 1:05 PM
Not a fan of Jim Lee any more.
Optimus83 - 3/8/2012, 1:39 PM
DC Relaunch. ...
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 2:06 PM
@SteveRogersSon c'mon, it obviously grew bigger cause it's kryptonian. Maybe the suit will make DCnU's "Superman" fly...

When will the phantom stranger hel bring real DC back?
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 2:40 PM
WHy, cause he found it on Braniac's ship? It makes sense that Kryptonians walked around in armor. Whatever dude...
TheMyth - 3/8/2012, 2:54 PM
Ya know, I don't get the hate on Supes and others like him in the new52 wearing armor. Just cause I can take a Tomahawk Missile to the chest doesn't mean it feels good or that I like doing it. If I were Supes, I'd dress more like Thor, as in ready for battle, not in a skin tight suit. To do so demonstrates great hubris since he CAN be beaten. It's like asking to have your ass kicked. The new DC Superman I actually like. I see more of myself in this one than his predecessor, and that's what I like about my heroes and villains.
Emjeed - 3/8/2012, 2:56 PM
You know, i never quite got how the suit just suddenly morphs and changes color to become his costume. If anyone got something that i missed i would like to know. Cos all i know is , one minute its a metallic color with a circle in the chest area and the next minutes its red and blue with the S shield..
Emjeed - 3/8/2012, 2:57 PM
Besides that, i love everything else about Superman and the new comics..
SteveRogersSon - 3/8/2012, 3:05 PM
Emjeed....well the quick answer is...because Grant said so...no further explanation needed because your too slow to understand my "Complexity"....

There is no answer, maybe Kryptonian armor and clothing is aligned to super KryptoDNA and confirms to the family's crest? Maybe it's a psionic reaction...so if like Zod wears the same thing it shows his crest..and then there's the super magnet straps that attach the magic growing cape to the sides...cause that makes WAAAAYYY more sense than the old suit.

Even the backstory on Steel 2.0 felt rushed and canned..but supes can jump to space...at least they kept the post crisis thing where he can't just breathe in space...and hasn't developed his super lungs..redemming portion of the book was the pressure on him to make a choice on who to save...THHHEEENNN he opens his mouth and the douche speaks....

I just can't wait for this hack to leave..Rags artistry is solid as always, except he keeps changing luthor's head..it's either fat or long and skinny...make up your mind..
mgeoff88 - 3/8/2012, 3:55 PM
That's a great cover. The Holy Trinity.

I think they need to give Wonder Woman her pants back. Seeing her stand right next to Superman without his red briefs, makes her costume stand out more. In a bad way.

If they redesign the costume, more movie studios might take the character seriously. And I know more actresses would be more comfortable wearing the WW costume.
GUNSMITH - 3/8/2012, 4:30 PM
I'M A JIM LEE FAN, BUT I JUST DON'T LIKE THE COLLAR AND ARMOR LOOK.
oldnoname - 3/8/2012, 5:29 PM
@NoRegrets

This is very true.
rbfn04 - 3/8/2012, 5:39 PM
@NoRegrets they made it from kryptonian cloth. Inspired by kryptonian duds. Makes more sense than "look it's regular kryptonian outfit. everybody here wore armors. Everyone but your cousin, she dresses slutty"...
oldnoname - 3/8/2012, 8:34 PM
@rbfn04

How exactly does that make more sense? I mean after he tore through the first kryptonian fabric made suit and cape that his mom made him, how is she supposed to make more suits? Did she have an endless supply of kryptonian blankets at the ready? Did Jor-El pack extras? No. So that would mean she used regular earth fabric. Which is not known to repel bullets and resist extreme heat. Unless she wove in some kind of super armor. But superman didn't wear armor so how exactly does that make sense? The fact that he wears kryptonian "armor" that can actually keep up with him makes a lot more sense if you actually put some thougt into it. PS: they called it armor so it obviously was not warn all of the time. The concept of him wearing armor to protect earth is a lot better than him wearing kryptonian civvies' to do so.
