The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

22 sleeps, 22 sleeps, 22 sleeps... So jealous the US gets Cabin in the Woods in a week and a half, it comes out in July in Australia. No way I'm waiting that long, I've waited four years for that movie! Crappy pirate copy, here I come :( Oh well at least we get Avengers almost two weeks early.

basically they are throwing out money lol. Good luck to them on opening weekend cause now many people that would have payed to have gone to see it would have seen it for free. No wonder why everyone says TDKR will be the highest grossing.

Looks like I'm going to have to cut down on CBM. I can't see the spoilers in the headings now.

I think a lot of you, maybe not understanding how the screening process works, are overplaying the magnitude of audience members that'll be in attendance to these screenings.

I attend screenings all the time, because, living in Hollywood, the opportunity just sort of always falls into my lap. Usually, though, there's a certain company that sends out flyers locally offering a chance to see a screening of something. I attended a screening for both The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 before they both came out. Usually these viewings are controlled experiment-type theatre outings, where, most times, you're not even allowed to eat popcorn or carry your phone in with you.

At the end of the film, they usually have you fill out a questionnaire regarding what you just saw, asking, in several ways, for critiques and how you, the audience member, responded to it.

So relax people. This isn't some waste of money. There are thousands of movie theatres, and this will be a select ten, maybe. It's a great way for studios to get an idea of what kind of response a film is likely to get come opening weekend.

Very bad idea. I'm sure there are plenty of retards who won't mind spoiling the movie for the rest of us. Three weeks too much time for them to contain themselves.

^^ well that's a relief :)

@Azazel

Eh, I wouldnt say zero chance, I mean it is one of the biggest and most anticipated movies for this year. But Im not sure if TDKR will make as much as the last. I mean it is very huge but I think part of why the last one was so great was because of Heath's death. That was when I first heard about that movie. But then again, it does have alot of buzz just cause of the last one so IDK.
BIGBMH - 4/2/2012, 7:58 AM
Since my city has a pretty small population, it's probably not worth trying.
