JUDGE DREDD Karl Urban Watched Stallone's Performance Before Putting On The Helmet

Speaking at London Film and Comic Con 2012, actor Karl Urban candidly revealed that he did watch and study the 1995 Sylvester Stallone Judge Dredd film. Who do think uttered "I am the law" the best?

Said Urban, "I personally actually found [the previous adaption] quite handy to look at that film to see what worked and what didn't work. It really helped me to inform me, as I was approaching the character, about choices I wanted to male and choices I didn't want to make." And as far as his preparation, Urban admitted that acting in a film where his face is 75% covered was a bit of a daunting task. "You know entering into any film is a challenge and this was an extraordinary challenge. First off the bat, knowing that I wasn't going to have the benefit and use of my eyes which is such a valuable asset and tool for an actor. And by the way, that's the way it should be done"

Bring it, the hardest, grittiest, darkest CBM of 2012.

Nomis1800 - 7/10/2012, 6:41 AM
I think this might be a fun film to watch. Give it a chance, I'd say.
Sabconth - 7/10/2012, 6:44 AM
It's so difficult not to laugh at Urban's scowl, it just seems so forced.

Ron Pearlman is the only good actor with a chin big enough to emulate Dredd.

This also takes quite a few cues from The Raid, which I'd recommend to everybody in a heartbeat, excellent film.
GingerBird - 7/10/2012, 6:45 AM
Is there a bigger "who cares" movie going on right now?
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/10/2012, 6:46 AM
I dont care for the story in this film at all, I want 2 hours of pure-ass kicking, action, blood and Karl Urban badassery.

hellfire - 7/10/2012, 6:53 AM
I have to say I'm really looking forward to this.

@Sabconth Now you mention Ron I'd have to say he would of made an excellent Dredd. They should of done Dredd with Pearlman instead of Sly

Sabconth - 7/10/2012, 6:58 AM
@hellfire

Totally, he's got the voice, the chin and the height, he'd have been perfect.

Do the people comparing this to Zack Snyder even know that the slo-mo sections are actually plot-driven and there for a reason?
Or are they just being carefully collected clumps of bell-cheese for the fvck of it??

Karl Urban is a great actor. I hope he channels his inner "Deathmonger" and gets to kick a$$ and take names...then execute the lawgiver upon them!

"...continue to engage the threat until the threat is no longer a threat!"

Peace though superior firepower!
hellfire - 7/10/2012, 8:11 AM
@tea LOL it's been that long for me rigamortis has set in. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad, suppose on the plus side I don't have to take the blue pill any more.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/10/2012, 8:46 AM
It's going to be an awful movie, but that's okay. I will enjoy the hell out of it.

I saw the preview and have to say that I think it looks great.

Stallone Dredd could have been better without any comedy elements, stupid one liners & plastic looking body armor, plus he made Demolition Man movie which was about a cop set in the future as well. Way too similar premise.

Karl Urban seems to have the real Dredd vibe & physically is more like Dredd.
Dredd appeared mostly tall & lean in his books & not super muscled up.

In a perfect scenario Clint Eastwood in his prime would have been the perfect Judge Dredd.
--Never remove the helmet from Dredd!--

Teabag is the undisputed king of CBM! And herpes...
MrChuff - 7/10/2012, 11:03 AM
@Just1Superguy - Not wanting to take the pi$$ but I assume you know that the film features a drug called "Slo-Mo"?

The most effective way to visualise the drugs effects is... slow motion photography.
inky - 7/10/2012, 11:34 AM
stalones judge dredd was i think based on the DC comics run of judge dredd rather than the 2000ad version.
too many errors in stalones JD that made it flop.
thi new JD looks better and reeks of block wars storyline that was a precursor to the 4 dead judges story that would be a great movie.
