Feast your eyes on a younger, sprier Gollum, a young, mutated Hobbit in his prime if you will. All kidding aside, Peter Jackson's prequel to the much beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy looks rather astounding and this latest trailer should quiet any concern that fans have had about the tone and characters.

UPDATE:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

My grandfather gave the Hobbit book when I was about 9 years old, I read it cover to cover. As well as LOTR. We went to see every movie together, as a tradtion. I joked with him that I would be 19 years old, when we went to see The Hobbit together. I was so excited to relive that tradtion again. He died last July. The Hobbit just doesnt give me that excitment anymore.

I miss you granddad.

Looks great. Idk if it's just the trailer but I feel it's lacking suspense and awesomeness that the first there had. This trailer makes it feel way more lighthearted. Hoping for more of a serious dark grand epic feel. All in all I'll be seeing this anybody am very excited and have high hopes

I hate to be that guy but... nothing really looked real while i was watching this... all the cgi (besides gollum) looked off.... the sets didnt feel real... The one thing about LOTR is that i always felt like it had a realness to it.... i don't know, we'll see

LOVED the first two LOTR movies when they came out, but haven't seen them since RoTK came out, because that movie was so shit it tainted the rest for me. King Kong was even worse. Haven't seen The Lovely Bones.

As far as that trailer? That looked...shithouse.
