Dane DeHaan apparently left Marc Webb's house disappointed because it seems Sony is looking for actors 'more athletic and good looking' for Harry Osborn; which is more in keeping with the James Franco version of Spider-Man and less so with contemporary comic book depictions of the supporting character.

Today, four new young actors tested for the role including Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook.

Claflin was previously seen in Snow White & The Huntsman and will be portraying Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Redmayne was previously seen in My Week with Marilyn and will portray Marius in the upcoming adaptation of Les Misérables. Booth was previously seen in LOL and will portray Shem in Darren Aronofsky's Noah. Holbrook was previously seen in the Hatfields & McCoys tv miniseries and has an unspecified role in Out of the Furnace.

Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet were all up for the role initially.

I'm kind of happy with this; I was hoping Josh Trank would cast Dane Dehaan as Johnny Storm in his Fantastic Four reboot.
thespiderman209 - 11/19/2012, 4:38 PM
Johnny Storm? Such a bad casting choice, he doesnt have the physique nor the "bad boy look" to him
DGTZ - 11/19/2012, 4:38 PM
Cast Dave Franco if they're going with the same Harry from the Sam Raimi films
SageMode - 11/19/2012, 4:49 PM
Is it me or does Dane look a tad bit like Dafoe?
thespiderman209 - 11/19/2012, 4:50 PM
yea Dave Franco, I cant believe hes not on the radar for these guys
jazzman - 11/19/2012, 4:51 PM
@DGTZ

its a reboot this has no connection to Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. plus Dave Franco aint a good yet like his big brother he still got along way to go to improve hes skills.

@Viltrumite I'm with you on that. I really think Dane DeHaan would suit the role of Johnny Storm, especially if Josh Trank takes the Mark Millar Ultimates route. In Chronicle, he had this "fire" in him – I thought it was a great performance. Oh well... Harry Osborn is probably a better deal for him.

Which, by the way folks... I rented The Amazing Spider-Man Thursday night... and you can definitely categorize me as a fan. The visuals, the characterization, it got it right, I'd say. Bring on the sequel! In IMAX (I hope)!

@SageMode If you're referring to the guy in the picture posted in the main content of the article, that's not DeHaan. That's Eddie Redmayne – and he does look like a young Dafoe.
OverlyManlyMan - 11/19/2012, 4:57 PM
I think Sam Clafin could be a good choice
TheHawkWithin - 11/19/2012, 5:08 PM
Sam Clafin looks like he would be a great fit to me, and I really think that Harry will become Venom in this franchise rather than Eddie Brock.
MarkJulian - 11/19/2012, 5:20 PM
Harry's always been a bit weird looking despite being rich.
MarkJulian - 11/19/2012, 5:20 PM
Was hoping DeHaan would get the role.
jimpinto24 - 11/19/2012, 5:21 PM
Brady Corbet would be good as Harry Osbourne.
AlexRival - 11/19/2012, 5:24 PM
I really want to punch that Douglas Booth guy in the face, don't know why.
M3T4LL0 - 11/19/2012, 5:26 PM
This is a damn shame. He would have been PERFECT for the role. I don't ever remember Harry being athletic in the comics. He was more dorky looking than Peter IMO.
RSDhillon - 11/19/2012, 5:27 PM
That Redmayne guy looks the part.
Also, he's got a kick ass name!
BeanzReilly - 11/19/2012, 5:34 PM

More athletic and good looking? wow i thought Dehaan would be great, since Andrew Garfield is already the athletic good looking one, I guess that kinda sums up the mentality of the people behind this new series.
PureLionHeart - 11/19/2012, 5:35 PM
Disappointing, he fit quite well.
Tymminator - 11/19/2012, 5:39 PM
If they went the Ultimate route, Harry was cool and pretty much liked by everyone. He was Peters friend and stood by him.
MrHateful - 11/19/2012, 5:45 PM
They should go with Anton Yelchin. Dude looks alot like Harry from the comic books. First time I seen him in terminator: salvation I thought of Osborn. He played a young kyle Reese. Check him out. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0947338/

@Viltrumite I respect your opinion but oh Goodness no! Johnny Storm is supposed to be a ladies man, Dane is waaay too dark and nerdy for Johnny. Yeah he's a great actor but if we casted actors based on skills alone we'd have Denzel Washington as Cpt. America (Again wonderful actor, one of my favorites but no) and Betty White as Wonder Woman. And know ppl think its shallow if girls want someone better looking for Johnny but its like how u guys want someone who can act AND are pretty for roles like MJ & WW. Nothing against Dane but he'd make a better young Dr. Doom or somthing.

Anyway, I was excited about this, but I think its too sterotypical to have Dane as the tortured son. He fits too well it wld be too predictible for him to turn bad. The other guys seem ok. I can see Sam C. or Eddie R. for the role, either why I'm excited.
RSDhillon - 11/19/2012, 5:48 PM
@M3T4LL0

I agree! People keep saying Harry is "supposed to be better-looking than Peter"! Come on! I bet all THEY read is the Ultimate comics!
mrexcellent - 11/19/2012, 5:56 PM
I'm disappointed to hear that DeHaan is out. He was great in Chronicle, and I think he'd play well opposite Garfield's Peter Parker.
Wingding - 11/19/2012, 6:03 PM
Oh for goodness sakes. DeHaan would be awesome! An athletic and good looking Harry makes no sense to me. I see a skinny nerd, who is troubled by his father's neglect.
TrueRedBlue - 11/19/2012, 6:04 PM
Athletic, tall, and good-looking type? I'm totally cool with that. Can't freakin wait to see what they do with the character!
Loved James Franco's performance, btw
Spidey31 - 11/19/2012, 6:10 PM
Man dehaan or enriche would be good, I don't like these new guys.
Spidey31 - 11/19/2012, 6:16 PM
That douglous booth guy look [frick]img ASAIN
Spidey31 - 11/19/2012, 6:19 PM
Redmayne is [frick]ing 30
TrueRedBlue - 11/19/2012, 6:28 PM
^Agreed. Eisenberg would make a fantastic Harry. And the chemistry between Andrew and him is definitely there.
xizorkatarn - 11/19/2012, 6:29 PM
Eddie Redmayne?? Oh [frick] yeah
RAWRG - 11/19/2012, 6:29 PM
FAAAACK!!!! would have loved dehaan damn't SONY make your god damn mind all of their choices are horrible the only actor from this list im considering is Sam Claflin!!!! RIGHT NOW ITS EITHER DAVE FRANCO OR GTFO!!!
LegacyFilms - 11/19/2012, 6:30 PM
Was hoping Dehaan would get it. Why do so many act as if they know how the character is "supposed" to be, but don't realize the ultimate version is REALLY different from the mainstream and that Harry wasn't that cool. And will people shut up about Dave Franco! He looks and sounds too much like his brother. That's like casting Brandon Routh as Superman even though he looks and sounds so much like..... Wait, that doesn't count because it was a "sequel". But, you get my point.
RAWRG - 11/19/2012, 6:32 PM
@TheWallCrawlingMenace Jesse Eisenberg would also make a great Harry :) I loved Zombieland. [frick]in hilarious!
BIGBMH - 11/19/2012, 6:40 PM
I think one of the main things they need to think about is who would play off of Andrew Garfield the best. It would be funny if they chose Jesse Eisenberg.

Anyway, I'd say they should figure out who Norman is before looking for Harry.
DJCheckPoint - 11/19/2012, 6:51 PM
Marc Webb is what Joel Schumacher was to the batman franchise........garbage
TrueRedBlue - 11/19/2012, 6:52 PM
^Wrong completely.
spideyboy - 11/19/2012, 6:54 PM
They already went with the 'more athletic and good looking' look for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man with James Franco... no homo.

But I agree with @BIGBMH, Jesse Eisenberg would be pretty cool to see as Harry Osborn.
fettastic - 11/19/2012, 7:06 PM
Dane Dehane looks like Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

You know it's true.

I'm quite dissapointed he's out because I think he would have been a really fun twist on the character. We've already seen the spoiled good-looking rich kid version.
DrRockso - 11/19/2012, 7:17 PM
I was thinking these guys are a little old, but then Garfield is around forty-ish isn't he?
TrueRedBlue - 11/19/2012, 7:29 PM
^Garfield is like 28, man...
mgeoff88 - 11/19/2012, 7:33 PM
Dane DeHaan would've been perfect for Harry Osborn! That's really disappointing.

None of the new actors would be a good Harry Osborn to me.
Spidey31 - 11/19/2012, 7:37 PM
Yea I like the cast, strongest part of the film, but this list sucks major ass
BenderdickCumPatch - 11/19/2012, 8:25 PM
We'll see...
StormLoganSummers - 11/19/2012, 9:09 PM
That Sam Clafin is pretty hot, so I'd go with him.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 11/19/2012, 9:22 PM
D@mn, man. What a shame, indeed. I was really hoping for DeHaan to get the role as Harry Osborn. D@mmit. And, I'm sorry, but "Sony is looking for actors 'more athletic and good looking' for Harry Osborn"?

This is Harry Osborn we're talking about here. Not Flash Thompson, or some random athletic dude.

Him.

Not this.....

-_-

Disappointed with ya, Sony. DIS-A-POINT-ED!
jingorot - 11/19/2012, 10:00 PM
sam claflin's a terrible actor. please anyone but him

all these people fawning over his looks and overlooking his blandness on-screen... it's like orlando bloom all over again.
M3T4LL0 - 11/19/2012, 10:04 PM
@ RSDhillon
I agree. The picture I posted alone proves my statement but I'm sure everyone on here already knows that.

@ BIGBMH
That is a very good point you bring up. They both were awesome in The Social Network and I really think that kid could also pull off the role. Still bummed Dehaan didn't get it though... he would have been perfect.
Luko - 11/19/2012, 10:51 PM
neither!!!
PeterGreyson - 11/19/2012, 10:54 PM
I really liked Dane DeHann for the role, and when he wa spotted leaving marks house with a script ( smaller script than Andrews, but still ) I was hopping they were very interested in him. Maybe this is just one of those cases where mark or the director wants an actor, but the studio wants them the look more for a certain look before coming to a final conclusion?

Regardless, why is Anton Yelchin not being looked at? Him or Dane could own the role completely.
Spidey31 - 11/19/2012, 11:13 PM
@nomis Harry is athletic and good looking in the ultimate universe therefore your statement is kind of invalid
