Episode nine of Arrow is in the books and it featured some nice fight scenes between Yao Fei and Deathstroke and a brutal encounter between Green Arrow and the Dark Archer.

IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME AT THE QUEEN HOUSEHOLD--Oliver (Stephen Amell) discovers that after he and his father went missing, Moira (Susanna Thompson) and Thea (Willa Holland) stopped celebrating Christmas. Determined to make up for lost time and restore a sense of normalcy to the Queen household, Oliver decides to throw the family a Christmas party. Meanwhile, Tommy (Colin Donnell) asks Laurel (Katie Cassidy) to spend Christmas with him but she points out that Christmas was also her sister Sara’s birthday and she needs to be with her father (Paul Blackthorne). Tommy suggests changing things up might be the best way for everyone to heal but Laurel isn’t sure her father is ready for that. Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) tells Oliver someone is murdering the people on his father’s list with arrows, which sends Oliver off to face his toughest adversary yet. John Dahl directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim (109).

Arrow will return Jan. 16th.

the fact they actually called him (well not really)green arrow kinda made the episode for me, but when did barrowmans character take archery classes?

@hellsboy Well we havent seen much of what barrowman does in his free time, the one time we did, he was fencing, showing he knows how to fight, in old fashioned ways mind you, why not archery as well? makes a whole lot of easy feasible sense to me

he appeared for like a minute. there were a ton of batman ripp offs, two from batman begins: the "what do you think about the vigilante, oh hes some goof blah blah" and the help me diggle/alfred. dark knight, hostage reading note from villain declaring the vigilante turn himself in to them, and the dark knight rises, with oliver with the cane at the end. though they finally said green arrow on the show. stick with green arrow dammit.

I keep giving the show a chance, but I can't get over the melodrama and underwrought archetypes posing as supporting characters (I.e. Diggle, Thea, Mom, step-mom, silly friend, ex-lover, etc...). I can overlook the blatant twisting of Green Arrow mythology, but the story and acting is so heavy handed, it's unwatchable. The show is being held together by its blatant rip of a Nolan-esque vision and its movie quality fight scenes. However, even that's getting tiresome. If I see Oliver training shirtless or dodging a maelstrom of bullets one more time like he were Neo, I will gouge out my eyes. Who writes this dribble?

Either Deathstroke or Count Vertigo is in lead. I think its Vertigo but I hope its Deathstroke.

I have problems with the show quite a bit of times, but damn is the overall product good. It is the definition of a good show, nothing spectacular but nothing at all REALLY bad.

Merlyn! and Arrows finding his match! Seeing Arrow beat was awesome

@thewonderer: Agreed, seeing Green Arrow get his beatdown was good and a necessary move on this shows part. Hope Deathstroke delivers the same to Arrow in a future episode.

Yes, all the teen melodrama stuff can go. Thea is really bugging the hell out of me, Ollie should just teach the little B*tch a lesson. Dang got that out of the way now, but underneath it all their is a great action and drama series that really wants to come out. Enough of the light dribble and give this show what it really needs. Barrowman is the man as the Dark Archer and seeing him kicking Green Arrows arse just put a huge bloody grin on ones face, and when the hell do we see Manu Bennet as Deathstroke?

Great midseason finale but I think they gave up Dark Archer' I.D. too quick. They couldve played with that a bit.
But heres a thought, if it turns out Dark Archer got his training on the island, then he should have had lightbulbs flash in his head the second he heard Ollie had been stranded on that island and Arrow appeared.

This was a great episode. I actually thought the Dark Archer was Yao Fei. Especially when it sounded like Tommy's father had payed the Dark Archer to kill Arrow. Good misdirection.

This scene was funny:

Oliver: I think the vigilante needs a better code name than "The Hood." Or "The Hood Guy."

Malcolm: I agree. How about "Green Arrow"?

Oliver: Lame.

Lol! And it explains why he'll never be called Green Arrow.

@marvel72 Yes, Deathstroke was in a flashback for a short time, but he was still awesome. If you really don't want to watch the show, I'll keep you posted on the Deathstroke episodes.

@1geekygurl I don't think he was on the island with Oliver. I think archery was something he learned as a hobby, like him fencing.

I like the show so far, most likely it will get a second season.

Question is....do they have enough material for a second season? It already seems like the storylines are getting weaker.

The stroy lines are getting stronger with each episodes they show and slowing revealing things as each episode progress. The have more than enough material to keep the show running.

I watch the show every week but this is not Green Arrow. It's really Batman or Nightwing with Green Arrow substituted in there. I don't know why they didn't stick with Nightwing when they are essentially doing (Nightwing) anyway but with the Green Arrow name. Seems odd to me.

@Brail1975 same reason a young Bruce Wayne never showed up on Smallville. WB wouldnt allow that property to be used for TV, when they had a successful film franchise. Batman and all his related properties (Ie Nightwing included) are held hostage. Presently only allowed to be used for film rights and the cartoons (due to the merchandising to youth audience) its all about $$

This show falls under the "could be worse" category. The writing is weak and inconsistent at times, and some of the liberties they take with character origins is baffling. I'm no comic reader - what I know comes from cartoons and movies, but I do know it takes 5 cards to form a royal flush - therefore you can't have a royal flush gang without 5 members. Arrow only gave us 4. Then they bring the Huntress who I thought was either the child of Batman and Catwoman, or as a child watched her parents get killed in their bed while she hid in a closet, vowed revenge and trained through adulthood. Arrow leaves us to assume she learned to fight like a ninja in less than 3 years - where? Because her dad had her fiance killed? And she wants to get revenge on her dad? Seems like her origin was better before. If you watch an episode once and don't think too hard about it, it could be worse. Berlanti sucks at superhero shows

@TruBeliever: Yeah, you are right. Remember back when the CW was thinking of doing "Flying Graysons?" I think it could have worked if they tried it.
