Speaking at a press junket for Gangster Squad, Emma Stone says she's read the script and that she's ready to 'battle' with Shailene Woodley who plays Mary Jane Watson for the affections of Peter Parker, played by Stone's real life boyfriend Andrew Garfield. @LEVITIKUZ I whole-heartedly agree with you, for once, surprisingly. ;)

I can't wait to see what they bring to the table in the coming months for the movie.

DrHorrible - 1/8/2013, 9:08 AM
By the way, when does the movie start filming? Was it this month or next month?

I dont want Gwen to die so soon

:(

WHY to limit this cast with just a trilogy?

Lets broke that stupid limit, Studios (both to Sony and Fox)
Danielm2048 - 1/8/2013, 9:18 AM
@DrHorrible
The filming starts in february
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/8/2013, 9:20 AM
I'm with @Doc and @LEVI on Shailene casted as MJW. I'm actually excited to see how she'll do as Mary Jane. BUT, I'm not too keen on this "love-triangle" that Peter, Gwen, and Mary Jane will have between them. :/
DrHorrible - 1/8/2013, 9:24 AM
@LEVITIKUZ Not necessarily. There's more than one way to stop Electro, you know...
Vadakin - 1/8/2013, 9:30 AM
NO ZODDAMMIT!!! It's not a fricking love triangle. Mary Jane isn't a homewrecker, she's Peter's salvation. This is what Raimi missed when he turned MJ into a selfish bitch, it's what Quesada and JMS missed when they did One More Day.

Peter goes through so much shit. His uncle dies. His high school sweetheart...well, you know. His best friend...you know. Everything goes wrong in his life and a lot of it has to do with that costume he wears. He should take it off. He should stop being Spider-Man so that the people he cares about stop getting hurt. But he doesn't. He can't. He's driven by that catchphrase we all know. That promise he made to himself to use his powers to help people, even if it means he has to live in misery.

Mary Jane Watson is his light at the end of the tunnel. She's the cure to his misery. They have their ups and downs like every couple and she's ended up being put in danger at times, but she knows what she's getting into. She made a choice to not let Peter bear the burden alone because that's what marriage is.

Of course Joe Quesada hated the idea of Peter Parker growing up and taking responsibility for his life, hence all the shit we've had to go through in recent years.

The best way to handle MJ is to deal with what happens with Gwen and then have Peter fall apart. Have him exist as a shell of himself, going through the motions of life rather than actually living. Then one day he walks out his front door and sees a girl and she says "face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot." Maybe life can go on. Maybe it's worth living after all. You don't even need to tell that story. Leave it for another day. Just give Peter some hope and a reason to keep going.

Rhino4508 - 1/8/2013, 9:35 AM
Can not wait for this!!
SpideyQuad - 1/8/2013, 9:37 AM
I vote NO to Gwen dying

I just got her back after 40 years!
BattlinMurdock - 1/8/2013, 9:38 AM
The cast is not the problem the movie will face. All the actors are solid.

It's that they still have to finish the "untold story," a new story, set up at least two new relationships (MJ and Harry), probably introduce two villains, and set up for the third.

It somehow has to be an incomplete, complete story. Which was one of the biggest issues I had with the first one.
DrHorrible - 1/8/2013, 9:38 AM
@Vadakin That's only one view, bud. It sounds like you're counting your chickens before they hatch.

Plus, I'm not even sure if it was even confirmed that there will be a "love triangle" or whatever in the movie(s). It sounds like Emma is just joking around, playing coy that there will be a "triangle" of sorts.

It's only been confirmed that MJ has a small part in TASM 2. That's it.
l0rdleg0las - 1/8/2013, 9:46 AM
@Vadakin

Damn right!

My only issue comes with casting. Woodley has shown to bue a good actress, but she just lookhs too young and innocent for the role. Think of Dunst calling Peter. Tiger in the first trilogy. It came off as wrong and like an actress trying to play sexy and failing. With her innocent look and youthful appearance I worry we get another Dunst like incarnation of the character. Picture Emma Stone as MJ saying that Tiger line. Your brain melts because it comes off as sexy hand comforting. Now picture Woodley saying it. It falls flat.

I truly hope I am wrong and Woodley kicks ass in the role

Well said. You're spot on, my friend.

I never liked the way MJ was handled in Raimi's trilogy, her portrayal truly made me dislike Mary Jane as the character existed in the film.

Mary Jane is supposed to be Peter's only salvation, his one rock that can be shook, but can't be moved. I hope they get it right this time.
rebellion - 1/8/2013, 9:57 AM
and emma stone is so overrated. she's cute and pretty but still overrated.
Spideyguy94 - 1/8/2013, 10:18 AM
@Battlin I agree, my biggest problem with TASM is they are overcomplicating a rather simple story with the origin, which did not need to be retold. I still really like TASM mostly for the characters and garfield's performance.
soberchimera - 1/8/2013, 10:24 AM
So they're doing the Gwen/MJ love triangle again? Has this franchise just run fresh out of ideas?
AmericanPsychoWolf - 1/8/2013, 10:28 AM
Yup, she's gonna die next sequel..

Anyway, whats the word on Gangster Squad? Good or bad so that we can begin to worry about the guy writing the Justice League.
Mucklefluga - 1/8/2013, 10:40 AM
Emma Stone is too hot to die in TASM2
Sevairity - 1/8/2013, 10:41 AM
Lol @TheWalkingDictionary

You totally have a hard-on for Molly.

Don't blame you one bit.

I started watching Castle again just to see her.
BeanzReilly - 1/8/2013, 11:01 AM
Fine with Gwen kicking the bucket in the next film, she wasn't a very good character at least they could do something interesting with her.
bagadoosh - 1/8/2013, 11:01 AM
very well said vadakin !!!
thefirstavenger97 - 1/8/2013, 11:23 AM
The first was to setup the next... so far TASM2 sounds pretty good. Roll Tide!
RexDartEskimoSpy - 1/8/2013, 11:26 AM
I look forward to the mudwrestling scene. There IS a mudwrestling scene, right? Or Jello maybe?
clogan - 1/8/2013, 11:30 AM
She looks like the kind of girl who'd have sweaty armpits.
Durf - 1/8/2013, 11:42 AM
Couple things: 1. Emma is awesome. And really hot

2. That side by side pic of Emma and Shailene makes it painfully obvious that this is a bad choice for MJ, and that Emma would clearly be better

3. Gwen Stacy is dead meat in the sequel. Kinda sucks

4. Emma is hot. And awesome

@Vadakin: couldn't agree more. Well said!

@batz: my pants!
aztecRaingod - 1/8/2013, 11:53 AM
When Woodsley knocks this out of the park, all of you shitheads wil be eating crow.
ironpool007 - 1/8/2013, 12:25 PM
As long as she is better than Kirsten Dunst. MJ is way sassier than that.
DocDrop - 1/8/2013, 12:28 PM
@Durf, you must be high! Woodley looks way hotter in the side by side. Stone looks like a Siamese cat with make-up on in that pic.
SpideyMan123 - 1/8/2013, 12:46 PM
Still think she's going to die in the Third movie
SpideyMan123 - 1/8/2013, 12:47 PM
unless Marc Webb and Writers have a surprise for us and electro isn't the main character

0_o
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 1/8/2013, 1:00 PM
Woodley isn't hot enough to be Mary Jane. I mean she is attractive but she isn't drop dead gorgeous which is what I imagined Mary Jane being. Isn't that the main complaint people had with Dunst? She better be good. As for Jamie Foxx he is a great actor so I don't care if a black guy plays as Electro. I actually think that is a cool idea and original.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 1/8/2013, 1:09 PM
Awkward ass video
BenderdickCumPatch - 1/8/2013, 2:22 PM
@Superbatspiderman- Yeah becuase Dunst was flaming hot...

She's a high schooler, what high schoolers do you see that are Victoria Secret Models?

Yeah I also like Foxx as Electro.
Emanuel14 - 1/8/2013, 3:34 PM
I'll say it again, kill Gwen in the next movie will be a huge mistake
Emanuel14 - 1/8/2013, 3:43 PM
She said the script is weak??
MBZ1993 - 1/8/2013, 4:22 PM
they both are gonna want the D................and Gwen is probably gonna die at the end of the film probably being electrocuted
Durf - 1/8/2013, 5:00 PM
@DocDrop: Woodley is attractive, but I think you might need some glasses if you think that about Emma. Way hotter than Woodley and doesn't look like a cat. lol
spideyboy - 1/8/2013, 6:12 PM
Jamie Foxx could be a great Electro even though Electro is one of Spider-Man's most lamest villains ever. It really will be surprising how they can pull it off. But then again I said the same thing about Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 and that turned out to be one of the best comic book movies ever. And people hate on The Amazing Spider-Man for no reason, you gotta remember what they had to work with especially that they scheduled for Spider-Man 4 to come around the same time then having to jump to a reboot, Sony could've lost Spidey to Marvel if it wasn't for the reboot and they would lose a franchise.
mgeoff88 - 1/8/2013, 9:17 PM
I'm still not excited about Shailene Woodley as MJ, but I'll give her a chance.

Emma Stone was great as Gwen Stacy. Such perfect casting.

@ELgUaSoN I hope we get that scene in TASM2. Before Shailene Woodley was cast, I imagined that scene happening with Mary Elizabeth Winstead saying that to Andrew Garfield.

Like I said though, I'll give Shailene a chance as MJ.
Parker2017 - 1/9/2013, 3:50 AM
idk Kristen Dunst is a great actress, but her Stacy Jane character was written terrible and same problem is why i;m hesitant about Woodley, she's not a Bad actress by any means I like her, just if the 1st film is "set up" (which was done poorly) then I'm nervous about the sequal. I will still stand by my comment that TASM = SM3.

it's not perfect casting,Emma stone isn;t hot, and did she said the sciprts weak? Love triangle? *facepalm* you REALLY Want me to not like anyone Sony, do you?! I don;t even like the pedo MTV Douche you call Marc Webb as a "director". Let's just play it by year.
Parker2017 - 1/9/2013, 3:51 AM
(oh yes I said STACY Jane for a reason, because she wasn't MJ.) same reasonw hy i call Emma stones "Gwen Stacy" GwenJ.
KNIGHT3000 - 1/9/2013, 7:10 AM
Damn right you're no Bryce Dallas Howard... Hurry up and kill Gwen already
KNIGHT3000 - 1/9/2013, 7:12 AM
Sh!t, I wish I ghost wrote the last script
dancingmonkey08 - 1/9/2013, 9:15 AM
They will probably go down the route of the comics. Peter and Gwen split up, Peter and MJ go out, he thinks she is too superficial, he will want to get back with Gwen and after battling Electro and going through the story of the movie, Gwen and Peter agree to be together, MJ will become Peter's friend, and then Gwen will die in the third one. Mary Jane will be there for him as a friend when Gwen dies, hinting at a later relationship which can be explored in another trilogy

then have Black Kat as a love interest in a 4th one because Peter starts to think maybe he should give up his civilian life altogether, then the 5th one Mary Jane and Peter gets closer, MJ finds out he is Spider-Man, then then they are properly together in a sixth one

ABOVE ALL, DONT KILL GWEN UNTIL A THIRD ONE! let Peter and Gwen be happy for a while between the events of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 3, so when the death does happen, it has more of an impact because he had a happy relationship with her for a while. Because honestly, if they kill Gwen now, its going to look like a copycat of the Batman trilogy. Superhero breaks up with girlfriend, thinks he is ready to be with her but then she gets killed by villain. If they leave it until the third one, at least Peter got a chance to have a relationship with Gwen
Jer3miah - 1/9/2013, 10:45 AM
I'm gonna enjoy that three way.
nightquest - 1/9/2013, 11:30 PM
